  1. Spotted this a while ago, seems an idiot proof scope. Is there anyone in the UK that does custom engraved turrets ? http://www.greybullprecision.com/Products/PrecisionHuntingOptic/tabid/63/Default.aspx Video here - http://www.greybullprecision.com/VideoGallery/ScopeOverview/tabid/71/Default.aspx ATB Mick
  2. Point well made Martin, especially as there were street lights behind us, could well explain Charlies reticence with the call I will give it a try on the next outing ATB Mick
  3. Personal opinion but unless there is a real problem with vermin I think that NV is pretty unsporting. That said if there IS a problem it is just the tool for the job
  4. My regular shooting partner told me the other day that he had seen a fox in the same spot at different times on different nights. There is or was a large warren at the base of the rather large bank where it was seen so we presumed that it was a vixen that had evicted the rabbits. The field is next to a main road and has a lay-by right next to the wooden fence that runs along the full length of field. We parked up on the lay-by and did a quick scan of the field. Sure enough as soon as the lamp went on we were greeted by the bright orange eyes in the distance. Knocking the lamp off my buddy turn
  5. Nice healthy looking vixen, congrats. A lot of them around here seem to be small this year that one in the picture would count for a pretty large one in this neck of the woods. Nice rifle btw
  6. Out tonight on my regular permission and we pulled off the lane through the gate onto a tarmac side road that drops down into the fields. From the top you have a clear field of view for about five hundred yards. We stopped and popped on the fox caller. After a few minutes the lamp went on and low and behold Charlie was sat out in the middle of the field. Off went the lamp and I set up on the bi pod across the bonnet of the truck. On went the lamp and out went Charlies lamp. The shot was taken at the 180 yard mark with around a ten to fifteen mile an hour cross wind from left to right. The fiel
  7. They are still out around me but not in the numbers they were. Some of the bigger warrens have been hit with myxy but I was out the other night and the one snow covered field had tracks all over it. Strangely no rabbits though.
  8. I couldn't get on my regular permission so diverted to another one that I haven't shot for a while. There are several fields that are easily accessible and more that are walking only. Due to the weather tonight we pulled into one of the easy fields looking for bunnies on the hedges but they were none to be seen. Changing tack we put on the fox caller. After a few minutes we lamped the area in one sweep to see two bright orange headlamps sat still and intent on the caller at ninety yards or so. Switching the lamp off I stepped out of the car, slipping and cursing under my breath. As there was n
  9. I just bought one and it is a really nice rifle. Does what it says on the tin so to speak, accurate and light
  10. I have P8's on my .223 and my .308 and they are nice pieces of kit, all interchangeable and well made.....but...... Try getting one. I phoned the shop and there will be no new stock until the end of January. I had to kit my .243 out with a T8 tin can....
  11. There is a long running dispute over the access road between the farmer and the muppet that blocked the road. I was told that the dispute had been to court and had been settled. I won't listen to that particular friend again. About a year ago the same guy called the police and the armed response unit did turn up but again they were very polite and didn't even ask to see our tickets There is separate access to the land albeit bloody inconvenient, so we will be using that in future waidmann Merry Christmas back
  12. Just got back from an eventful evening out shooting. We went to one of my farms tonight for a quick scout for bunnys. As we went to leave, the access road was blocked by a Jeep occupied by an irate older couple whose house is adjacent to the road. Obnoxious is possibly the best word to describe their attitude, along with condescending. It transpires that the old goats have a dispute with the farmer over no less than 4 feet of property and have an injunction against people having access after 6pm to the field. After wasting my breath trying to explain that it was nothing to do with me the chap
  13. He is taking into account the trajectory of the bullet Take a look at this it makes for interesting reading
  14. Just got a Browning X Bolt in .243, £650 and spot on for both
  15. Too right mate, good hour last night scrubbing her out
  16. Nothing like getting out in the fresh air to clear your head mate The dog is "Bailey" a rescue Springer, took over a year to iron him out but he is doing quite well now. He knows that there is always a spare one in the chamber for him if he goes back to his old ways
  17. Just came today from sunny Belgium. Roll on Sunday
  18. Hmmm more food for though. I decided to wait and see what more people said before I act. It is a thorny one for sure. I think a quiet word in the land owners shell like may be the order of the day
  19. From the phone camera but the image still makes me smile On the edge of one of my permissions
  20. Thanks guys, I was going to call the FEO and go to see the landowner tomorrow. I suppose he could be lying about the deer to make himself look big but at the end of the day it is not on. I know for a fact that on a shared permission he nearly shot someone else, he was in cover across a lane on common land and shooting over the road into the land he has permission on. Fortunately the guys over the road were lying flat waiting for rabbits and not stood up otherwise it could have been fatal for them or anyone on the lane. Now how the hell do I word it with the FEO ?
  21. I was told yesterday by a good mate that someone who shoots on some of the same land as us has been given permission to shoot on different land that I occasionally shoot too. The chap that has started shooting on there told the owner that he has a .243 although he hasn't. My mate bumped into him yesterday and he was telling him that he had shot deer on this land with his .17hmr.The only deer on that land are reds. He is well known around here for shooting dangerously and irresponsibly so the tale is quite possibly true. What would you do in this situation guys ?
  22. I just had my new variation for .243. The rifle I fancy is a Browning X bolt chambered for .243win. Should it say .243win on my ticket or just .243 ?
