My old bunny basher has a problem. I have always used Winchester subsonics but on the advice of a mate swapped over to Ely. I took the rifle down to the range to check the difference in accuracy and had misfire after misfire. On checking the brass it appears that although it has quite a deep indentation it was not sufficient to ignite the primer. I swapped back to Winchester and hey presto a working gun again. I am going to presume that there is a difference in the thickness of the brass that is just enough to defeat the spring. Does anyone know of a supplier or gunmaker who would sell replace

The night was cold and clear. The wind that had plagued the day had given up the ghost and all was still. We had set out to clear the corner of a field from a large family of rabbits that have been in residence for longer than they should have been. The decision was made to peruse the outer fields of the permission before setting to work on the rabbit population. As we entered the field we did a scan of the lower field with the lamp and were greeted by the bright orange headlamps of Charlie. He was sat at the three hundred yard mark and as still as a post, resolutely staring at our beam. The

hi firepower how long have you had your FAC for. W.D All but a couple of years mate

No two rifles shoot the same so you will probably find that they will like different make of ammunition. Your best bet is is to try lots of different makes and see what your .243 likes

When I had my original visit from the FEO I was told that I needed to wait five years to apply for my open ticket. Although they did hint that gaining my DSC1 would "speed things up" Is there a set time limit and if not what are the factors involved ? Ta Mick

Used one since day one and never had any problems at all. The .17hmr seems to be a pretty dirty round so I run it through when I get back from shooting even if I have only fired once.

Changed mine last week, it took about a half hour and it is like a different gun

Thanks for the help chaps, lets see how quiet it will be with a new mod

Very nice deer, well done. Do you use an air line to skin them? John Nope! Not got the kit, know very little about this method Airskinning made easy

We all understand the principle of a moderator. By allowing the expansion of the explosive gasses and releasing them relatively slowly the blast from the explosion is diminished. Using ammunition that is subsonic completes the picture and the bang becomes a "phut" in the case of .22 or in the case of hypersonic ammunition and larger calibres a "whoosh" So why does my .17hmr produce a resounding crack? The velocity of a .17hmr is around 2600 fps out at the muzzle, this is a similar velocity to the .308 the .308 that produces a far bigger blast at the end of the barrel and is also hyperson

Who uses what to cart their rifles around. When I go out I will generally take two rifles and one shotgun. The rifles live in black plastic hard cases that will only fit on the back seat of my Pajero because they are too long to go in the boot section (when the Spaniels are not in there) Any recommendations on good quality rifle bags

Just had my shiny new variation back for a .243 and now I need to choose a rifle. I have a Remington PSS in .308 which is great for shooting from the seat but is too damn heavy to cart around my permissions all the time. I also have a Remington XR-100 which is even heavier :=( The rifle will be primarily for charlie and of course deer when they stick their heads up into the firing line. Requirements for the rifle are.... Adjustable trigger pull. Threaded barrel. Good balance when fitted with a Predator T8. Detachable magazine. Sub 1" at 100yds. Any suggestions :=)

Got the call from the FEO on Friday, she came out to see me Monday and my new ticket came today. Five days, super fast but I put in for a .243 plus mod and .303. All three are on my ticket but apparently I can now buy two lots of .308 but not .303 as they have made a mistake on the ammo section. Also on my conditions the .303 isn't mentioned at all -

Staffordshire here. First application was a dang nightmare time wise but to be fair they had just had that new fangled computer system. I asked for .22, .17hmr .223 and .308 on the initial application and was granted all of them Sent my ticket in because the ammo section was overflowing and it came back missing a .22 moderator so I phoned them and was told not to worry as I was putting in for a variation soon and they would put it back on then. The variation was applied for on Friday so I will let you know. -
Sorry dont get me wrong. I think that NF are overkill for what I need to hit a deer at 100 yards or so. 8x56 is fine by me I just wondered how the Zeiss optics would perform in low light conditions compared to the NF and S&B considering that it is so expensive
-
Ok just spotted this scope at Catton today. How do you think it will perform against a Nightforce or S&B in the bambi bowling world ? Rep said £2000 mark for it so it had better be superb

I had my ESS "Bailey" from the NESSR. He was 10 months old and had SERIOUS issues. He bit the wife twice, I had to give him a biscuit for that I made the decision to keep him as he was now my responsibilty and his other traits made up for the aggression. It had taken just over a year and he is now up to the point where I can sit him and walk off to pretty much anywhere. He comes and sits to the whistle. Retrieves, blind retrieves, quarters after a fashion (we are working on that) His only problem now is separation syndrome. If I leave the little bugger in the truck he whines and barks. Oh
