  1. I use the v between the mirror and the doorpost. Works perfectly
  2. Thanks I did an engineering apprenticeship and would have thought a mild abrasive with oil but I don't know how fragile the crown really is
  3. I usually always take the mods off but just sketched after a crap day. Typical that it would be my most expensive gun
  4. I took my .223 out the other day for a few hours it was a damp overcast day and I didn't see a thing. Giving up I went home put the guns to bed and went for a few pints at the local. Fast forward three weeks........... Off shooting again. Pulled the .223 out of the safe and after looking for the darn case for ten minutes I gave up and grabbed the .17hmr case which is shorter than my .223 case. I removed the moderator off the gun and to my horror there is what looks like surface rust on the crown of the barrel. All I can think is that condensation got in between the mod and the barrel. (DUH)
  5. Crappy camera phone pic Remmy XR - 100 in .223. Supposedly .5 moa, 40X trigger 1.5lbs to 3.5lbs bit on the light side after the 300lb pull on my Remmy 700 Fitted with a Predator T8 mod. Dropping the scope on tonight and out tomorrow (Mind yer back Charlie)
  6. Thanks for the reply, glad that there are people like you to to guide me. Cant imagine what I would do without such solid advice from "mega hunters"
  7. No I don't I presume though that if the land is passed then all will be well ?? If you're new to stalking, then I strongly recommend that you go out with someone who has done a good amount themselves. Deer, as with all quarry, deserve a high degree of respect, obviously. I'm sure you have the best intentions, but there's a lot more to stalking than bunny bashing or paper punching. Although I am relatively new to stalking (I am currently studying for my DSC 1) and have been stalking previously, the end result being a perfect boiler room shot at the 100 yard mark. The only ti

  10. First on the hitlist mate FEO to come out and check the area out first
  11. Thanks for the advice Martin. I have a Remmy .308 with a Predator T8 mod fitted the deer are ruining a golf course that has large built in backstops everywhere and I already have deer as a quarry species as I am a member of a stalking club so all looks good
  12. I have just been offered over 200 acres of land that are inundated with rabbits and deer. Obviously the landowner would like the numbers kept down Bunnies no worries but do I need to apply for a deer hunting licence in the UK or do I just need the owners permission
  13. Yup high seat it is for me mate, well for now anyway maybe some stalking later in the year. I do have my eye on the Blaser R93 in .308 too but 'er indoors will have to green flag that one
  14. Just picked this one up today .308 Remmy 700. Off to have the T8 fitted next week and a S&B to top her off. Bambi bowling here we come
  15. Just tell her it ran in front of the board Wifey wants to go but she isn't sure she can handle the death part of it all
  16. I decided this morning to pop out on some newly acquired land. I have been shooting there often as a guest of my best mate but the farmer, God bless him has given me written permission which has been duly noted by the old firearms chappies at Stafford. So trusty .22 in hand off I set. Only having about a half an hour before I needed to be at my studio I gave the area a quick scan with the binoculars from a handy vantage point. Sure enough on the middle field the bunnies were frolicking in blissful ignorance. Making my way as close as I dare in the truck I disembarked and set off on foot for th
  17. I have just bought an old BRNO 581 semi in .22 lr scoped it up yesterday and zeroed it in today. Cost a massive 120 of her majestys. 10 mins and 20 rounds later it will drill bunnies all day and night
  18. I like my Remmy PSS because it is pretty much unbreakable came at the right money and I use it on the range at the moment. It is due a visit to the "smiff" to have the barrel shortened and screwcut. Then I have no doubt it will make a perfect bambi bowler
  19. Shooting deer and targets are two completely different things. That said I would suggest a Remington 700 Police Sniper model in .308 with a Schmidt and Bender or Nightforce scope. The 700's are a bit on the heavy side for stalking but ok for high seat shooting. They are also pretty good medium range sniper rifles too. The factory trigger pull is rubbish as a rule coming in at 5 lbs plus but it is easy enough to adjust if you research it properly. Well unless you want to spend another 200 pounds on a Jewel trigger
  20. Nice write up mate. Charlie has, to date eluded me but as he is pretty much the only species that that lives in the fields that has I am sure that his time will come
  21. Thanks for the advice. Stealth it will be then
  22. Has anyone used them. I need a moderator for my 700 Remington in .308. I was thinking of a T8 but these seem to be better all round. Are they as effective though ? http://www.thewholeshootingmatch.co.uk/products.html
  23. If you were to define what a "silly thing" was we might be able to help. It could be a "silly murder" or it could be a "silly pee in the street"
  24. Thanks guys It really was a huge rush. I have shot a lot of wildlife, rabbits, geese, pidgeon etc and deer seemed a logical step along with my shooting. It is quite amazing how a decision that you make yourself can crank up the mental pressure. I woke up at about five in the mornng and wondered whether it was within me to actually carry through with my decision. I carried on with the self doubt up until the time I sat in the high seat and looked around me. I guess that is when I finally realised that I really was born to hunt. I feel sorry for all of those that moan about hunting being cruel
