  1. iv got a 8 month old bitch doxhope, will let you know in another year or so! Not a giant but at just under 25 inch at the moment should be a usefull size bitch. im sure ive read they are a bit smaller & racier than most deerhound x's the sire to one of my deer x's (Nuala) is a doxhope bred first cross deerhound greyhound. At 29" tts, he is certainly not small, no different to what would be expected of a first cross deerhound/greyhound of any breeding - in fact exactly the same size as my own first x (non doxhope). Nevertheless a good dog, regardless of his size.
  2. thats what you call a mornings ratting - well done!

  10. thanks for the comments, we are very lucky to be able to run the dogs on the land, been going there a few years now, although most of our ferreting is actually in the woods, this is our (and their) favourite bit for mooching on. Shes out of the black dog in the photos above, who is 1/4 beardie 3/4 greyhound. Her dam, Nuala is deer x grey with a bit of collie way back
  11. A couple of weeks ago we had a look up to our ferreting ground, just for a wander round, without the ferrets. We haven’t managed to get up here so frequently this year, due to the hard winter and a few other things going on, so we wanted to have a look about and see what was happening. Called in to say hello to the keeper for a quick cuppa before we had a look about, he says he has some new places we have not been to before to show us for the coming season We took Indie, his daughter Inca and one of the terriers “Ellie†with us, we hadn’t been out of the vehicle for 30 seconds

  16. Its been a while since I posted about our ratting excursions but about time I did. We got a call from a friend at the weekend to go and help him out with a local job. It was a scorcher of a day, and made a nice change ratting with the sun beating down on us, normally its cold or raining. We'd not been there very long at all before the dogs were marking alongside a small stream that ran through the farm. As most of you know its not always easy ratting next to water, but nevertheless makes for an entertaining time It was difficult going at times, the rats had well and truly establi
  17. Moll, you should substitute the eggs with dummy eggs until she has finished laying her clutch, put the eggs in the fridge until you are sure she has stopped laying. Then replace the dummy eggs with the real eggs, they should then hatch out at the same time, otherwise there will be a big difference in the size of the chicks when they hatch out and the younger ones are less likely to survive and thrive.
  18. cheers jan, you have experience of this line she's not going to be smooth wots your bet rough or broken I think she'll be broken, bred one that had a similar flully coat at that age, who is now very broken coated

  23. not the best recipe for diets, but I caramelise the applies rather than boiling them - fry apple slices in butter but not for too long (you don't want them to go to mush as the caramel will continue to cook them), then add brown sugar and stir, continue to cook for a few minutes until the sugar has melted and is bubbling. Then make your pie using this filling (use shortcrust pastry). Egg wash the top of the pie and sprinkle on more brown sugar for a nice crispy top. Just to add there's no need to blind bake pies at all, if you cook it for long enough in a not too hot oven (so it doesnt
