  1. Yep the old vinegar trick does work, handy for the chips after a day out as well!! Personally I prefer to use small jills they disturb the nets less than a big hob. Years ago we only ran jills lose and used a hob on a line if we got a lay up!!! Who remembers that old method? Bussa is right though a spade is good!
  2. Nice one mate one less to worry about! Have a mate who shoots these and crows with various rifles. Best I know of is a crow at 350yds with a 22-250! There were witnesses!!!
  3. The Romans had the right idea even before good old Enoch! Build straight roads that way no corners for the shops thay all own!
  4. If your thinking Theoben my mate has a 'new' Rapid MFR going cheap! Very nice rifle light silenced from the box and capable of FAC! PM me if interested. He is in Cambs
  5. Hi camgun, Someone I know has a rapid MFR for sale cheap! nr Huntingdon. Would need taking up to FAC but its a beaut. PM me!
  6. Great bits of kit these wouldnt be without one. Try rabbit casserole done in it. Cooked real slow the rabbit is great sometimes 'bleaches' white and looks like chicken! Pigeon breasts in a rich sauce also good. Use a liver casserole mix! Cheating but good!
  7. Stick to Zander much better if you can get them! Once saw a recipe for Chub!!! Went something like this from memory. Clean your fish carefully and season well. Sandwich between 2 pieces of ply. Bake in a moderate oven until ready. Remove the Chub form the 'sandwich and throw in the bin. Eat the ply!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Had a quick scotch and a nap when I got in! Wear the old uns out first eh? Most enjoyable 'exercise' I have had in ages!
  9. Out of the 24 we got today, bigred and me, 4 were in kit! First ones we have seen but at a very early stage!
  10. Your right bigred bit windy it was! Thanks for the day much appreciated.
  11. Try half grown bunnies in the summer on the barbie. Marinade for a couple of hours wrap in foil, saves burning the flesh, cook and enjoy!
  12. Have some of the Jean Claude Namur at home! Had a French guy work with me his surname NAMUR! He brings the odd bottle back over when he visits home!!!! Not sure if its actually on sale in UK though?
  13. Have a look at Pigeon Shooting by Major Archie Coates. His wife Pru had so many to deal with in her time. There is a chapter of her recipies most are great!!
  14. Try Poland or any of the 'new european' countries. They must be empty most are over here!!!!!!!!!
  15. Hi Julia I have heard of of people putting 'rocks' in the hutch for the jills to 'rub over' guess these were called 'Hobstones' never tried or understood the theory though! Will do a bit of research and find out!
  16. Barbour wax is great. Follow the instructions and its easy! I have cheated and have stuck my Jacket (a 25 year old Solway) in the tumble drier for a bit before I start. Or use an old hairdryer to warm it before applying the wax. Did once send it back to Barbour for a re-proof and repair superb job superb service!
  17. Ferret wellies! Could catch on? I will have a word with Buckie see if he want to come with us!!! Or loan us a couple!
  18. Best advice is dont drink and shoot! It doesnt mix. Save the drinking for after the event!!! Lord B ever tried Jean-Claude Namur champers?
  19. Just a thought and probably tryin to teach the converted!! Pick sloes early and freeze, thaw when your ready to use. The skins split and it saves all that pricking! Try the same recipie you have for sloe gin and replace the gin with cheap scotch, its very good!!!
  20. Gotta depend on couple of things really. How cold it is where you hang them and how you like it to taste! We dont get cold enough weather to hang for long and I guess not many have a walk in cold room? Have hung for 10 - 12 days when used to be very cold outside then the taste is real strong. Weather we get now max 5 days or its off! My great uncle used to hang them in an outbuilding til they dropped of the hook!! They were green and bloody discusting but he like em!
  21. Fred was a very knowlegable countryman. The books a good insight. Did meet him at a game fair once and he always had time for a chat. Manged to call him many years ago when one of my ferrets was ill. He diagnosed over the phone and his 'remedy' worked, saved the jills life!!!
  22. Well done that man! Cracking fish! My best is 3lb 8oz from a local marina!
  23. Nice pups mate. If I were looking would snap one up. Dont think my cocker would take to kindly to a pup though! Good luck!
  24. This has been around before. My mate (a gunsmith) shoots his own design hand built 22-250 with great effect, hand loads varmint rounds himself to suit. It does burn barrels but its not a problem for him! Have spoken to him about 'factory' rifles his advice is .223 remmington 700 series.
  25. Was told by a vet at a 'well known' research company in Cambs! That eating a rabbit with myxamatosis will not harm you. I worried but he did it to prove the theory!!! Just a thought fleas will not live on a 'dead' host so if you bunnies have been dead a while no fleas!!!
