35g v max have a very thin wall and will break up at faster valocities....its nothing to do with weight its the make up of the bullet....barnes varmit grenades do sub 1/2 inch groups at 150 yards which are very good for longer range crows....
-
hear we go with a very large can of worms.......if all quary was legal i would have to say rabbits then deer..... NO.1 RABBITS, there is so many of them, they over come almost every atempt to aradicate them and you can run a fit dog to death if you arnt carfull with a good nights lamping.....
-
TOY'S why are you shaking your head??? rifles are big boys toys..if you arnt earning a living from your rifle they ARE toys....im not saying they shouldnt be treated with the upmost respect
-
why does everyone keep banging on about 243 all the time?? yes its a good calibre but why not try/own somthing else?? the 204 for long range fox/rabbit/crow control..243 is the smallest allowed calibre for deer and slightly over kill on fox....when the hmr first came out plenty of people harped on its the new must have calibre and it'll be gone tommorow..........be differant try somthing new..i really piss's me off with all the talk of short barrel life blar blar blar....rifles are just toys at the end of the day..
-
why would you want to own cheap junk,i have heard so many people talking badly of howa recently.....as long as you can have a go with the remington and it shoots i wouldnt hesitate...GET THE REMINGTON they really are good...as for calibre choice i havnt got any expieriance of 204 but if you get one and like it im sure you will let us know. ...i went for 22-250 rather than 243 because i didnt know what was myth or truth about them...
-
where you from???
-
lite force 170 is the perfect lamp after a wiring and switch modification.......as im getting older i find walking about with a heavy battery harder work...maybe a solar powered 170 with no batteries
-
iv got brass and dies for sale...pm me and i'll give you a number for a firm selling reloading kits off cheap, but they only got obsolete calibre kits left so you will need dies,
-
approx 500 223 brass..most of it sized deprimed and tumbled £35...... rcbs 223 dies £25 im in shropshire...happy to post at cost...............
-
nice pup mate.should make a super star
-
if you arnt used to fitting trigger kits be very carefull indeed..when you have chosen you springs and tube fit them.cock the rifle MAKE SURE ITS UNLOADED!!! and drop it onto the but pad on a hard floor from about 12" if it goes off you need to fit the next strongest spring..mega light triggers can be dangerous in the field...saying that a trigger kit in a cz452 transforms the rifle and is worth every penny...i would happily pay in excess of £50 for the difference it makes.......

my cz hmr loves federal v shock, will do hole through hole.its acceptable with honardy v max (thats what i can regualy get hold of so i use these)..cci it hated its like a shot gun..winchester were rubbish too...what i am trying to say is what/how many brands of amo have you used?? if youve done this and its still bad.has the rifle just been screw cut and the crown is crap??..everything tight?? when you changed scope did you change mounts aswell??..
-
honardy v max 17 hmr are £89 for 500 ie £8.90 a box.thats the best price i can get... elley 22 subs were £33 for 500 last time i had some.....we went out last night and i used my 22lr and left the hmr in the bag...after 12 mnths of just using hmr i found 22lr lacking.rabbits i would easily shoot with the hmr i didnt shoot at..and i was over and under compansating witth the lr..i found i didnt scare so much off using the lr.but i didnt get on with it like the hmr..my mate kept on about calibre limitation.i kept saying my hmr would of had that one..
-
the point i wasnt trying to make.(badly ) is that i am a very good shooter..make me stand free hand and my 12 yr old daughter is a better shot..i used to shoot hand guns free hand at 50 yards but now with a rifle im a joke.i dont hunt with a shot gun and the only time i walk is working my dogs.any rifle shooting we do is either with a quad or in the landy..i really wouldnt like to say that even with practice id improve.. ..as for back stops for me i dont think id be safe in a clay quary.
-
EXELLENT SHOOTING DEKER..CANT ASK ANY BETTER FROM THAT MATE..........honest posts??? i wouldnt of thought there are many places in the uk were you can afford to be taking free hand 100 yard plus shots with a rifle.i would say rested i am a above adverage shooter..standing free hand im a joke..i would be happy to hit a 4" target at 100 yards..there is no way in the world i would take a 100 yard plus shot with a centre fire rifle because i couldnt say were the shot would go..it isnt safe
-
when i go out shooting i always take my hmr then 22-250 i cant remember the last time i hunted with my 22lr..a friend is coming over tonight so he will be using the 22lr..the chaps shooting isnt very good at all,i would be embaressed to put groups like that on the net ..BUT atleast he has done a video unlike me so i guess its easy to critasize the fella 17 HMR FOR RABBITS EVERY TIME

rem 700 vssf 22-250...tuned by mike norris of brock & norris custom rifles
-
with hmr you will be shooting 100 yards ish so DONT get sucked into expensive optics.....mtc do a great range of scopes,im using a viper on my hmr but i wouldnt go for that one again, the mtc mamba use the same glass but non of the extra's that you wont need.....harris bi-pod because they will last longer than your rifle, decide how you are going to shoot ei..laying down flat or kneeling etc that will tell you what pod to go for..cheepy sak mods are good for £30 ish...if you are going for a cz 452 get a brookes trigger kit they transform the rifle.ten shot mags are handy aswell.......
-
i shoot alot, probably three or four times a week..today everything fell right,i was in a good mood my hands wernt to bad and the weather was good..so it all came together well, we were getting 4" groups at 540 yards..i went out friday night and couldnt hit a barn door,i missed atleast 75% of the stuff i shot at, to the point i let my mate shoot and i drove most of the night...with all the advise that gets posted on hear iv never read anyone saying that accurate shooting is mostly to do with being/feeling right at the time..
-
rem 700 vssf, jewel trigger and heavily breathed on by mike norris of brock & norris custom rifles..load 50g v max.36.4g varget.cci br2 primer.without going into the workshop and getting the book i cant tell you seating depth etc..
-
managed to get out today and try some home loads i have been playing with, i was shooting rested at 200 yards with good weather and no wind.. with accuracy like this who cares if the barrel life is 25% less than 223 a decent 22-250 correctly load developed and with a good scope is the daddy for fox work
-
has anyone got any data for 35g vmax for my 22-250 im not after mega fast rounds.i have 200 v max left from loading 222 and its a shame to waste them..i would like to use aa 2230 or varget powder cci bench rest primers...i thought it would be nice to have a calm load for popping a few bunnies off...
-
i use as much mag as possible..i use a s&b on 12x......300 yards at night is a bloody long way and anyone that says it isnt dosnt shoot that far
-
its bloody hard to over clean a barrel...every time you use your rifle it should be cleaned the only exception is 22lr on subs,,,the reason is that centre fires/hmr/mach2 etc etc all use copper jacketed rounds. some of the copper stays in the rifleing of the barrel, copper is hydroscopic.(absorbs water)which means that it causes the barrel to corrode...my hmr has done well over 5000 rounds and is still fine...check your scope mounts/stock is tight/moderator/each time you go out make sure your rifle is clean because it will count out one variable..mine starts opening up groups after 100 rounds
-
22-250 is by far one of the best fox dropping rounds...i found 223 limited out to decent daytime distance's.......im using a rem 700 vssf which has been tweeked slightly, yesterday i was getting a 5" group at 520 yards with two mildots hold over..my rifle is zeroed dead on at 50 yards which makes it 1 1/4 high at 100yards and dead on again at 260yards you wont get anything like that out of a 223..they are out of fashion again at the moment but they will be back im sure..at 520 yards the round was punching a hole in 5mm steel plate..i load my own amo which makes each round about 45p i was using
