Got you and agree .I prefer to choose the pup for a lad ,that way its me who to blame and not the breeding lol. This internet lark can be confusing at best of times .Cant remember the word but i thought you were just being argumentative lol. ps has lutra lutra gone to ground .

Hello my friend! Going back to my boxing days as a middleweight with intelligence, i could always hold my own when sparing with heavyweights?? Any terrier under 16 inches will go to ground and any terrier that wishes to reach its prey will get there! In my experience, a terrier that only stands 11/12 or even 13 inches, lacks the bulk and power to be able to deal with its prey! I would be very interested to hear your experience with the jagdterrier?? As my experience with this breed is from Eastern block hunting terrier men who have used the jagdterrier underground for many years on both fox an

Last Tuesdays Effort

Hello Sussex ,the pictures make it bigger than it really is tbh .Would be no weight to it . -
Lets put a bit of perspective on it lads .No-one is saying they can breed litter after litter of every pup working but to rely on luck is very haphazard ,I would EXPECT some not to make digging dogs not be surprised when they work and i think this is where the confusion lies .75 % of a litter working is what to consistently aim for and youve made it .Of course i cull probably sometimes for reasons other than work too which would be beyond some lads.Every year i hear of lads looking for studs to put over bitches that have produced good workers and im a loss as why they wont go back to the same

Luck only comes into being lucky enough to know what you are doing .Lucky that two well bred dogs tied ,something that avoided me this summer .What eludes most on here is ,i think ,breeding for the future instead of the here and now .Its been done to death so cant be assed to explain but luck has no part in stockmanship.Ime ,pups behave totally different when seperated from siblings .Id never choose a week pup but not refuse a bully either .Its knowing how to get the best from anything that matters which comes from confidence in what youve bred and time served .

Apologies for the spelling mistakes ,just read it through -
With the rut nearing a peak ,it was time to have a look out on a spot i only do once or twice a year as its a beef farm and cattle out tead round aparf from now with hag fields left .Second field is normally good but it was only early yet .Decided on a wait up and call .Few minutes into calling a doe comes into the feild from a wood with attendant buck .In my experience its a wasre of time with the mating fieps to lure a buck already following so i target tge doe with a distressed kid call and on the came head high with 6 pointer in tow to about 60 yds when a broad side shot saw him run the d

Squirrel_Basher replied to dirtwinger's topic in Falconry
Exscuse my complete ignorance of your sport mate but what does the long dog bring to the table in that combo.Over here they are or were used seperate to secure a hare .Seems a bit unsporting to me but id like some clarification before making up my mind fully. -

No mention anywhere of profit on materials lol.Thats why the building trade suits me fine +15% ,get in .You lads are also underestimating what the public perceive to pay for a professional service .Forget the other guy and earn more money for doing less work .You know it makes sense Rodney .

Where badger digging is legal ,it would be unavoidable to use anything other than a bantom weight on a heavy weight .Heaviest terrier i ever bred was 18 lb whereas badger goes to 35 plus im lead to believe .In the terrier world ,weight comes with size rendering it too big for even the biggest earth imo.Size does matter but what matters more is attitude .Most ,if not all the lads in this particular section of the forum want a dog to dig to ,not to yap off into the distance at every opportunity like ive seen with these .You are up against years of earth dog breeding we dont want diluted.

Come this season you should see a change in your pup mentally, more determined about its hunting ,this for me is the natural progression from a pup to an adult and with that comes the chance to try it to ground in an EASY place . Good luck mate ,exciting days ahead .

Great vid that .watched it til it chewed up lol. -
For my part why take the chance of messing up a promising dog and they can be ruined with too early entering for certain. If the dog has a future in the game it will self enter no encouragement.Use the time to fully train it mate ,stock break etc. Hole ending is for me, old hat and i detest it tbh but each to their own i guess .Let the dog meet quarry its found itself in an earth its wanted to enter.

4 terriers ,2 lakeys ,my 2 pats and 2 lurchers for the runners .As they pull the shed some of the rats go with it then break out the sides heading for the distant hedge but none made it to my knowledge .Dogs were watered often as im very aware of heat exaustion .When the shed is pulled off the shit its over with farm 360.
