  1. Out of my Browning A bolt they defineately stop the ricochets now for the 'but'. 1 they're loud 2. they're expensive 3. They don't feed in or out well 4. They're no where near as acurate as eley subs. Great idea lets hope one of the decent manufacturers finishes the job well.
  2. I do steel fab and have just knocked one up myself, 10mm black bar, just looked at pictures on magnum traps sight and bridport nets.I made mine 22" wide. The only thing I'm struggling with is to find something to use for the bag underneath. Any bright ideas out there?
  3. I too am very interested in in getting a T bolt they sound really good for many reasons but are they as accurate as the CZ and what's the trigger like? Weight wise I would have thought a bit of weight might be a good idea, I believe they do a varmint barrel but don't know if they are available here. One of them sounds good cut to 16" Be nice to have something different, everyone I know with .17 (about 8 people) has the CZ. Yawn. they're like arseholes everyone got one!
  4. Am afraid to say I don't think that they can ship any gun related stuff out of US. I had this problem with a mag for my browning a bolt .22, got a mate to bring it back for me! Try Midway uk they stock most mags and can get the stuff they stock in us if you ask them.
  5. You shouldn't need a variation, a moderator is not listed on your license as manufacturer or serial number specific. Just take the old one to the gunshop when you pick up your new one, they'll destroy it you go home with one moderator jobs a good un.
  6. Cheers guys. Tomorow night looks good with cloud ,possible light rain. We've taken the windsceen out of the mule and put a bar across so we can shoot straight out the front. We've got my mates land and the next door farm which is my permision to do. Its nearly all to stubble and about 800 acres in all. Will be a late one. Will let you know how it goes.
  7. What weather conditions do you guys find to get best results lamping rabbits. Am going over a new permision witha mates Mule taking the .22 and the.243 incase we see charly but the main aim is to get the rabbits down. Want to go anytime in the next week and with clear evenings as well as light rain/cloud forcast didn't know whether it was best to go when it was cloudy/wet or clear. Any advice appretiated. cheers George PS Is it best to go just after dark or later in the night?
  8. I'll just bend it by bit by bit in the vice and do it by eye, it's only 8mm bar ,very easy to bend. I'm wondering now how deep it should be! Oh well I'm sure I'll work it out as I go along
  9. I want to make my own quick set basket as I have access to welding facilities and steel at work. I have had a good look at one and there are photos about for the design but just need a width measurement at the widest point really to be able to go ahead. Could any of you guys who have one be kind enough to put a tape on it and let me know. I think it may be 30" as that is the max hieght you need your net. Cheers George
  10. clint not taking the piss ,but where the f**k did you ( or not,as the case may be ) learn to write english ? its f*****g hard work mat e! I have read a number of Clint's posts on here and always understood what he was saying. Although the technical english is not perfect it is about communicating and Clint is good at that with valuable info. Just felt someone should stick up for him +1 for clint, to start with I thought he was taking the p*** but actually he has alot of experience and interesting stuff to say.
  11. Its on in Hampshire. Shot a buck just after he covered a doe 8pm this evening
  12. The rifle don't look that bad John Sorry John I meant the Steyr SSG & Alpine and the Sako TRG , you've got a fine looking weapon!
  13. Cheers guys think I'll try the fox call uk one with perhaps the Primos mouse squeaker too. Thanks again No more 'hand jobs'!
  14. I don't know what kind of stalking you'll be doing but even a small amount of walking about with a tactical set up will get you down (lenghth & weight)let alone if you you've got to drag/carry a deer any distance with it. Can't go wrong with Sako the 85 is great, the only Steyr I have experience with is the Pro Hunter which I have got on well with in the past. Why not compromise with something like the Scout which is supposed to be light and short but with some tactical features or perhaps a Sako with a fluted varmint barrell. The other thing at the back of my mind is I personally
  15. Sorry if this has been done before but have tryed surching and nothing.Am after a fox squeaker call (non electronic). Can do a fairly decent back of the hand job but it lacks power/loudness to carry a bit further. Which call do you guys recomend perhaps something hands free and where to get one. Cheers George
  16. There are plenty who get on with hazel and garden green poles but for me they have two bad points. They don't fit in the car and you can't shorten them for kneeling and sitting shots like the telescopic ones. (As for monopods I think you need a medal to take anything but the shortest range shots with one).I use a bipod one, a mate swears by the tripod it is absolutely rock solid big plus for this is you plant it infront of you to set yourself and gun up with both hands free which is difficult with the bipod.
  17. Ase Northstar ,stainless smaller lighter.
  18. This subject is being covered in depth on the Stalking Directory forum at the moment. I thought I had put this on my previous post but it may have been censored by the powers that be, I might be wrong. If it was am I breaking the rules by mentioning another forum? I thought we were all in this together. Again I may be jumping to conclusions or just naive.
  19. Cheers guys , am going for one of Strong stuffs carriers and he's chucking in a slip lead FOC so cheers for recomendations. Bring on the bunnies. George
  20. I have a Sako 75 cut down to 20" it great no problems with power or accuracy. Balances great with my Northstar.
  21. I've tried them and they are much better as far as ricochets are concerned. Now the bad news: 1. They are difficult to chamber in my bolt action browning 2. The case somtimes sticks in the chamber and is a fiddle to remove. The above two might make them useles for a semi auto 3. They are not nearly as acurate as eleys in my rifle 4. They are more expensive 5. They seem alot louder than eleys sometimes going of with a right crack don't seem subsonic. Because of these problems I haven't shot any bunnies with them yet the noise is really off putting, other people say they kill very wel
  22. Have got two new bits of permision for rabbit shooting/ferreting. Both with alot of rabbits, popped over for a very quick look with the .22 rimfire the other evening and came back with 10. Was not prepaired with bag/game carrier and was tricky getting them all back as I can only walk around. Next time I go out there is a good chance I'll come back with alot more, What do you guys use for carrying rabbits, just a bag? Do those game carriers for pheasants work or do you hock them and use a stick? Any suggestions much appreciated. Cheers George
  23. I only heart/lung unless v close (less than 60 yds and off bipod). The meat damage argument I find bemusing, I bring nearly everything I shoot home and lose very little meat to a chest shot unless i've accidentally mullered the shoulder which if you are carefully about shot placement won't happen. my game dealer is very sensible and does not penalise for chest shot even with damage to shoulders he only takes money off if the saddle or haunch is damaged. I can see FTB's point of view as far as loosing deer as I have done the same in thick cover/dark but at least you know they are
  24. I have three friends who are vegetarian but will eat venison that I give them. They love it (one of them also eats rabbit and hare from me). They like the fact it is wild, not farmed and honestly taken and processed unlike the crap in the shops. Fair play to them really. One of them (a girl) has asked to go rabbitting or stalking with me. I think I'll start her of with ferreting so watch this space next season you might see a vegetarian ferreting here. Perhaps this ought to be "what can you get a Veggie to do" thread. Although shooting are charlie is quite a winner, though maybe if I
