Hi guys, I have a pregnant gill due at the end of the week. She lives in a large cage with one other gill and a nest box. Do I need to separate the other gill off before she gives birth or can I leave them in together. James McKays book says it's ok to leave them in together but I'm not sure. Also what's the best bedding? I was thinking shredded paper or something they won't get lost in. Do you suplimentary feed in pregnancy and after, what sort of things? Cheers George

I've got a mobile high seat , I'll take that. I just want to get the job done with as few trips up there as poss. It seems that the long net idea might bear fruit with one trip. I can either release 20 yds away on other side of fence or dispatch in the net.

Thanks guys, think I'll go up with the rifle and check it out and take it from there , wil let you know how I got on.

I have been asked to remove a Munty from a very large deer fenced garden. It is v flat and does not lend itself to to shooting also I don't want to waste time not getting a shot at the little bugger. On talking to the gardener they have tried moving it before and there are a couple of places he can guarentee it to run. So I was thinking of setting up my long nets , I have 2 x 50 yd 6z nets. I have prepared them to pay me for damaged nets etc Just wondering if you guys had any thoughts experiences etc Cheers George

Hi Pete, I covered this subject on here not long ago I hope it is a help: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/339350-tips-for-longnetting-hares/ ATB George

I've shot them with 200gr mega's from my 30-06 pig gun and they always seem to run more than with the 243. I think it just goes straight through them without expanding much.

Thanks guys, she's 7 so getting on a bit, I hate to say it I don't want to spend a fortune on her. Seemed a bit better this morning still quite bright, eating etc and useing one of her back legs ok. Will take her back to vet and see what happens. I'm inclined to pick up the oral anti inflam stuff he talked about and see how she goes. I will know if she is going down hill and I can sort her out myself.

Hi all, I noticed this morning one of my jills had lost the use of one of her rear legs completely and the other one is not so good this morning. Took her to the vet this evening who gave her an anti inflamitory but said it might be a tumor as he thought he could feel a lump in her abdomen but wasn't sure. Anyway he said to bring her back tomorow evening and if she's no better we should put her down. Now she is very bright in herself, eating and drinking well and in no discomfort, the symptoms are v sudden . Do you think that 24hrs is enough to decide if this is a terminal or recoverabl

I tried finding it and couldn't, I tracked it down to one of Johnnys New Kingdom series. This is a one off project and don't think it is worth me making boxes for it. I'm sure if I bag them individually and carfully handle them and keep them dark they should be OK. The relocation site is only a few miles down the road. It is a large ex MOD site which is entirely fenced so they shouldn't be able to bugger off.

Thanks guys, I didn't think there would be leveretts about already perhaps I'll leave it till later in the year. There are a couple of pinch points on the fields that I want to drive that I hope they will run through that I should be able to cover. (I bet they'll f off into the woods though!) Perhaps a bit more research is required. Hesian sacks or bags might be the way to go, you can get those individual ones from the biulders merchants for sand bags that would be just the right size and they won't be able to move much in them...just a thought.

Hi all, I've been asked to relocate some hares and have access to land well populated with hare, quite big fields. Has anybody got any tips for longnetting hares in the day. I have 200yds of 6z rabbit longnet. Will I need alot of beaters I gues flags would be a good idea? Is the net ok, someone on here said it should be taller with bigger mesh? I have got pheasant/chicken crates for transport will they get hurt in them, is there something better? Any other tips for driving them etc... Sorry, alot of questions, any help much appreciated.

I have been asked by the widow of a shooting friend of mine to dispose of his guns. Therefore I have for sale this BSA CF2 in .243 the bore and crown look very good. There are a few minor knocks and scratches on the stock. There is some wear and tear on the bottom plate area (see pics). The blueing is in good nick. It still has its original open sights, the scope is a Pecar Variable 3-7 x 35 with a cross reticle in good condition. The rifle comes with the scope, a sling, 70 x 100gr Winchester soft points and 40 x 80gr winch sps. The old chap didn't used to do a lot of deer stalking and the rif

He's only 2 1/2 -
My hob has grown a lump on his nose , it took a few days to appear and has been there a couple of weeks. It seems to cause him no discomfort even if I squeeze it. I don't want to take him to the vet unless I have to. What do you guys recon? Many thanks George

Hi guys, can anyone recommend a good cage trap for foxes, there are loads out there and I don't want to get something that isn't up to the job. Have been advised to get one of the bigger ones. Some of them have a gravity shutter door that looks a bit slow so not sure about them. Would probably prefer to buy British but reliability is the most important , flat packing would be nice. Budget is not too much of a problem as the people who have the fox problem are paying for it. Any help much appreciated George

Thanks GreyRake I think your right, he must be domestic . I think if he were wild he would be absolutely mental and he would not accept or be accepted by the other ferrets, there would have been explosions in that pen for sure. The more I handle him he just seems like a normal ferret , he has probably been bred by some scum who has paid no attention to kits what so ever and has had no human contact, he just hides all the time. Maybe it's this behaviour that got him dumped in the first place. I'll give the ferret rescue people a ring to find out the best tecniques to bring him round to co

Maybe you guys are right, how do you know if it is wild or not apart from aggression? It looks like one , I have never seen a ferret so black, there are wild ones in the area, but there are a lot of gypos as well so could be dumped. I will admit he is not aggressive but more scared, I have received a hard bite but only as I was hand feeding a small bit of rabbit. It still to my knowledge has not eaten any ferret food or drank from water bottle.

:)Pictures at last...

Thanks ferretracer will get in touch with them if nothing else about the food and water (Christ it can devour any amount of rabbit in minutes!) Have taken some great photos but am stuggling to get them on here, will keep trying.

Isn't angora a rabbit? My ferrets f***k rabbits but not in that way.

I think I will release him but he is still a youngster and I don't know what his chances will be out there on his own. Would be good I think to wait till he's a bit bigger. Will post pictures shortly

My work colleague rang the other evening to say his terrier had a polecat trapped behind her kennel (for about 24 hrs) and would I come and rescue it. Anyway I ended up taking home a young polecat hob (very pretty all black ,white tips to ears and around muzzle). It was very shaken up and quite young so felt if I let it go straight away it would die. It has been with me 3 or 4 days now and has eaten a lot of rabbit and pigeon, it is fairly sedate when handled but tries to hide when approached. As it is a youngster will it servive if I release it back to the wild? it was found in the midd
