I am going to start lamping with my bedi x whippet bitch . I have a decent lamping set up that I use with my rifle it has a dimmer and red filter so as not to spook the bunnies.I have not been lamping with adog for years. Do I use the filter and dimmer or is loads of light a bonus to dazzle the rabbit and let the dog see it better. Any advice greatfully recieved. George

My vet did all four of mine for about £15! Went there after my old vet wanted £20 each for them, now I use ther new one for dogs too. So if your looking for cheap jabs in the New Forest / South Hampshire area its the Midforest Vets in Totton.

Am another one who can't shoot them in velvet. can understand the pressure if there are others about.

Thanks for help guys, I won't have a go at it again till next season. Have got a good bedi/whippet cross to help. shall hit it a bit mob handed with a mate next time and I'll make sure the farmer cuts some of the brambles back so I can devide it more easily. It still aint a 300+ holler! probably more in the 60- department . thanks again shall let you know how I get on later in the year

Jill coming into season - when to get the jill jab
liongeorge replied to fragle's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
You can get the jab well before they come into season, then it stops it coming on at all and I believe it has no bad side effects. -
Went to a new permision on Saturday looks like a great place. There is one bank that is a huge burry some of it overgrown with braken and brambles although the farmer has done a pretty good job of cutting it back. As my son and I aproached it we shifted 4 bunnies back home and were rubbing our hands looking forward to the action to come. But after setting the long net and about 20 purse nets I entered 2 jills then nothing much, missed one that bolted out the unnetted side, one jill layed up for a while at 8+ feet (possible kill) and I spent my whole time worrying if I was going to lose a ferre

I've just bought 200 CCI segmenting from Town and Country in Botley (Nr Southampton)he said he had 1000s in stock. They sound like a fantastic product if they work Gave them a go through my Browning A Bolt at the weekend shot 50 rounds, not so accurate as Eleys and alot louder which is a real shame as not a single ricochet. (My back stop was soft grassland) Shot 3 standard subs and had a ricochet straight away. Will persavere with the CCI's though I don't understand why they have such a crack? Anyone got any ideas?Could they be going supersonic?

Would that not Fcuk up their innards if swallowed while eating etc? It doesn't fall apart, it holds together very well, the strands are quite long. Not one bit leaves thier nest box. Would be imposable for them to consume it so no worries there. Give it a try see what you think.

In winter I use the cheap loft insulation made from recycled bottles you get from B&Q. It lasts for ages and is really cozy for the little stinkers. Its not itchy its like the stuffing out of a teddy or something ,they love it. Just chuck it out when its smelly.

CCI 22 Rim Fire Segmenting
liongeorge replied to The Seeker's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Rang my local gunshop today (Greenfields Salisbury)to see if they had stock. They had none but the CCI rep had been in talking about them but could give no firm date for stock availability. Said to stay in touch over the next few weeks but was sceptical as to whether it might actually take months to happen. -
Did mine 6 months ago, as far as I remember all the questions are answered in the book except about 2. I just went through the questions and found all the answers and noted them down. Have lent my book and 'krib sheet' to a mate of mine. he won't have to put the hard work I did into it. At the end of the day if you've read it 3/4 times and they cover it all again on the course you've got no probs. A bloke on my course hadn't opened the book till the course and passed with flying colours. It sounds like you've done a fair bit of revision, relax, try to enjoy the weekend. All the best

I use spun nylon for my nets, it's the best. Get it from Bridport Nets. Red or yellow.

First trip out with dog, tips please!
liongeorge replied to liongeorge's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Cheers guys , can't wait for tomorow. got a bit of confidence now . She's a bright dog I know she'll pick it up no prob. Happy ferreting George -
I was in the same possition , just find someone in the area/nieghbor who is into shooting etc and ask em along to give you a hand. I did that with a neighbour now we're a proper team almost a problem now as he gets jealous if he finds out I've been out and he hasn'nt been invited along!

Have recently rescued a beautiful beddi x whippet bitch 18 months old. She's pretty obedient can make her stay ,walk to heel etc but she isn'nt great at retrieving at the mo though I'm woking on it also when shes got a scent of something she has a tendancy to turn deaf. I've introduced her to the ferrets x4 and she's good as gold with them running round her feet ,in and out of tunnels etc. What is the best way to introduce her to ferreting, should I tie her up to watch how things work or start off with no nets to give her a run? Should I prevent her mouthing rabbits in the nets? I've on

Roe yesterday evening..............
liongeorge replied to martin's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Lovely buck Martin, I've got one on one of my permisions with a perfect 3 pointer one side and two tall seperate tines the other side.seen him twice but not able to get a shot on him yet. Going to have a go this week. All the best -
Just some thoughts in favour of the .22 that may have been mentioned before but in my mind v important. 1. Noise, my .22 the loudest thing is the click of firing pin and thock of hit. 2. price , not just .22 amo cheap but you can pick up a v good second hand rifle for peanuts 3. The HMR makes a bunny inedible unless headshot. I wont even feed them to my ferrets because of fragments all over body --what a waste! All the best George

5 gallons!! Had a 5 gallon bucket and 25 bottles so I thought why not only had to go down the shop and get some sugar, the kids can't get enough of the stuff.
-
Just bottled 5 gallons of champagne in plastic PET bottles that I normally use for my cider. Fingers crossed we don't get any explosions!

I'm not sure the missus would enjoy it as much as me, though youve got me thinking , I'll leave the tail on the next one!

Have set my heart on a new Sako stainless synthetic in .243 . My locl gunshop has an 85 screw cut ready to go at pre price hike price(£ 1195). But I also have the opertunity to buy one of the last new 75's un screw cut. Am I right in thinking the75 was a better rifle should I get it and get it cut? Would be greatful if there was anybody out there who has had or has or tryed both who could point me in the right direction. Unfortunately I haven't got much time to make up my mind. Cheers George

Ok guys check this out...had my visit from the FEO on friday for my FAC .243 and .22 he liked my experience and other details I won't bore you with that he is going to give me an open license from the word go. I mean fully open to shoot where I have permision but without it having to be cleared by them! You could have knocked me over with a feather .I didn't argue with him and am waiting for the bit of paper. Shall let you know what happens.
