  1. Hi. I carry a small LED torch on my belt, which I use for any climbing around etc - Tesco have some very, very good black, metal cased LED torches on sale from about £10 upwards. I wish you well with your new battery. Like you I am no longer in the first flush of youth (I started my lamping career in the mid-1970's) with eyesight that isn't quite what it once was and a touch of arthritis as well, so the weight issue matters to me in a way that it didn't twenty years ago and I just can't be arsed to go lamping for three or four hours, I go for an hour or two and that's enough for me these day
  2. I also use a 100w Lightforce lamp and have never used or needed anything more than a 7AH battery - although I know that Santa is bringing me one of the new Deben Lithium Ion batteries - which weighs about a third the weight of my current battery and is rated at 10AH. I'm puzzled firstly that you run your battery down so quickly which leaves me wondering 1) if the battery was a good one in the first place or 2) if there is something wrong with the way you are charging it or 3) if you are one of these people who have the lamp on all the time rather than just using it sparingly for spotting and r
  3. Are you sure you were in Oxfordshire and not Bucks when you shot these CWD?
  4. 25 nicked in South Oxfordshire in the last couple of weeks: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7737462.stm
  5. Remind me never to come round to your house and eat a 'rabbit' pie with you! LOL
  6. No mate that's a muntjac would alright, sadly I have seen too many of them and paid out too much to the vets for the repair work. Muntjac bucks are very tough and very dangerous little feckers with big and absolutely razor sharp canine tusks. wow . ive heard about them but have never seen 1 . are you allow 2 hunt them? Officially in the UK you can shoot them but not kill them with dogs, but where I live there is one in every hedge and every bush and accidents happen................ sometimes quite a lot of them!
  7. Get a Landcruiser mate, its an absolute no brainer, much better build quality than a Nissan and it wont go wrong all the time like a landy.

  9. It looks to me like she caught up with a muntjac buck who showed her exactly what he can do with his big canine tusks, an old friend had his whippet killed by one a couple of years ago and my terrier has 9 stitches in it from catching a muntjac buck in the week.
  10. I killed a stonking good muntjac buck earlier today, does anyone know how you measure a muntjac head to determine if its likely to be medal class and worth getting properly assessed when its been prepared? Thanks. LG
  11. Maglites are pretty dated technology these days, there are much better (mostly LED based) lights out there that will do the job perfectly well on an airgun. Look up Superfire and Ultrafire on the web/EvilBay

  14. I like it as tight as possible, assuming its not too tight for me to get it in.........!
  15. My answer is similar to my original one, trap them when the young lambs are out and the songbirds are nesting. Every time you kill some magpies you create a vacancy and more magpies will come along and fill that vacancy. Most of the year they do no harm at all and just eat invertebrates and carrion etc. There is no point controlling them when they aren't doing any harm so concentrate your efforts on that period of the year when they can do damage and use the time freed up the rest of the year to do something productive.
  16. I stop when the birds cease to have nests full of eggs or or when there are no longer young chicks about. On a shoot magpies etc are only really a threat to eggs and chicks so there is no advantage in culling them outside of the breeding season and it costs time and money to continue trapping
  17. In terms of new technology deben are now doing Lithium Ion battery packs, see: www.deben.com/lights_lamping/batteries/lithium_ion_battery_pack.php They are not cheap and I don't know anyone who has used one yet. Lithium batteries are very light and might be worth thinking about although I don't know how long they last.

  21. Hi. I will be grateful if anyone can pm me with a contact number for David Platts because I want to use one of his dogs on a bitch of mine and I've lost his number. Cheers. LG. PS. I know it will be in back copies of EDRD and CMW but I have given all of mine away.
  22. I would suspect that the problem was with the 'someone' trying to do the zeroing rather than the rifles!
  23. Individually. Every dog I have ever met loved chasing deer, running deerdogs paired up makes for the type of useless arse-biting 'haunchers' often pictured here. A good dog strikes the front end, running a pup paired-up teaches it to go for the haunches and will ruin it as a deer dog. please tell how you can get a guaranteed dog that will only take at the front end 90 percent of deer caught are taken where the dog happens to be at the time it does not think i must not bite it here . Nothing is guaranteed with dogs, anyone with any experience will tell you that and I haven't seen
