  1. I stamp all my Fenns with a unique code so that they can be identified as mine. It all came about a long time ago when I was trapping some squirrels in a commercial forestry plantation. I happened to bump into the keeper on the day I was lifting the traps and an argument ensued when he accused me of taking some of his traps. After that, all my traps were marked. I've got to get some tooling made so that I can stamp all my Duffus traps with a fly press.
  2. I have to admit, I've never tried a Trapline. But it's taken me a while to try out a Talpex, so that's hardly surprising...... The thing is; Duffus does everything I want it to do.
  3. It's a shame the likes of Alan Fenn and Frank Sawyer have gone. They cared about trapping, and worked to build new humane traps that were effective. We'll never see their like again, sadly. One of the problems is that we are no longer the great manufacturing country we once were. Even if someone came up with a good idea, it would end up being made in the far east.
  4. @ Moley. Moxy, I don't want sex again for at least a week. My arse still aches from the initiation ceremony.
  5. You are quite safe here Logun. Like everyone else who behaves sensibly and contributes. There is nothing wrong with constructive debate.
  6. Even if I wanted to reinstate Prolapse, I haven't even worked out how to ban people yet never mind reinstate them....... Anyway, I'm not planning on anything drastic. 99% of folks on here are generous and knowledgeable. No need for anything heavy handed. Lets just keep things sweet and sensible. I'm off to rub some saddle soap into this costume. It's all stiff..........
  7. There is an exemption on the general licence that allows the use of Larsens. Spring traps are illegal to use on birds. Period.
  8. It's an interesting topic. We have an out of date trap approval process, that we've been told for at least 10 years is going to change. Until then, we have a mad system where it's quite legal to sell second rate copies of well known traps. Only last week, I was contacted by a Wildlife 'consultant' who is trying to get certain mole traps banned, and all others subjected to approval the same as spring traps. Several recent studies into the humaneness of mole traps has been carried out, and those who seek to curtail trapping would love to see yet more restrictions imposed on us. As
  9. Jesus, that's a point. I thought it was marmite.............
  10. Oh god..... is that why this gimp mask I've been sent smells so bad?
  11. Is that £200 posted? What location? Is it five hides or five nets? Just asking.........
  12. Same here. It's still like winter here, and although most of the corvids have paired up, there is no evidence that they've laid yet. I was watching some rooks starting to build nests in Hampshire on Friday. It's going to be a late spring, that's for sure
  13. Not legal. Please remember that it's illegal to use any spring trap for birds.
  14. Thanks. Too far for me. Good luck with it.
  15. I would strongly advise folks not to use ant powder. Apart from the legalities involved, most ant powders contain Bendiocarb, which is a carbomate that is banned completely in the US. DE is good. I've heard of people letting their bird have it in dust baths with good effects.
  16. The only person that I'm aware of that has had a ban after a disagreement with me was Prolapse. His first post to me was less than friendly, and it went downhill from there on in. Sorry if you don't like what I post; I know I'm quite capable of winding folks up at times. Oh, and for the record, I've never had warning points in all the years I've been on here.
  17. Just cut em down. It'll be a few less magpies to predate the local songbird population. I doubt there have been any eggs laid yet anyway. It's like February here, not the end of March!
  18. That's a good point Giro. Got any serious competition in the area Derbylad? I would put anything passed some of the new generation of molecatchers/grasscutters/painters/gardeners/windowcleaners etc. A trail camera may help, or it may just be another expense. It's no good finding out that someone in a dark jacket and beanie hat wandered in and nicked your traps the night before. The NFU insurance policy for molecatchers includes a theft clause. I'm not sure if they would cover in these circumstances but it may be worth thinking about. I would also report it to the police just i
  19. That's a shite thing to happen. I had it myself quite recently. Not on the same scale admittedly, but I lost 6 traps out of a beer garden that was closed off. The b*****d even took the marker pins. It's at times like this you wonder if it's all worth it. £240 worth of traps plus the loss of revenue from the moles, and all because some dick want's to make a quick buck. Saddest thing of all is that they may just end up in a scrap yard somewhere.
  20. Paulus my comment wasn't really aimed at you, I apologise if thats the way it came accross. What has happened to all the mods? We used to have at least three on this section alone? For what its worth, I think Prolapse was here to cause trouble and nothing else. Good riddence to him.
  21. Agree with that Moxy. Warfarin is a last resort for me; in fact, I haven't bothered getting any in since it changed with the Biocides Regs. The big advantage of both the tube trap and the Kania is that there is little or no chance of a foul catch. These traps either catch and kill or don't catch at all. I think anyone who has used Fenns on a regular basis knows that they don't always kill straight off, and the last thing you need is a customer ringing you up and winging about the noise from a foul catch.
