  1. I've got to say that bread was a piece of piss. No more shop bought crap for me I think men have been conned into thinking that cooking is complicated and hard work for years now by millions of women
  2. I've got a book here of love letters between WSC and Clemmie. For a tough politician, he sure knew how to charm the Mrs......... Didn't his father die from VD? His mother certainly was a beauty (for a Yank). I would.....
  3. Just to clarify, I do hope you are referring to Wilson? I don't think anyone could ever think that WSC could be a russian mole. Yank, maybe...............
  4. Great thread btw Anyone else got any Churchill quotes to share?
  5. Wilson was the first PM to manipulate and spin. The pipe being a classic example; the bloke virtually chain smoked fags; but whenever there was a chance of a photo, out came the pipe. Yeah, that high rise 'social' housing he built was great wasn't it? It was Wilson that really started the European sell off; starting with getting rid of good old L S D (not the drugs). Do you think that anyone would have got the UK into Vietnam? Can't see it myself; no public support for it. Wilson also made buggery legal. It's an unfashionable opinion these days, but I believe that men bugger
  6. Wilson was a fraud that sold us down the European river. His funeral may have bee quiet, but it was state funded. Wilson and Heath are the two most treacherous leaders we've ever had. I dare say people will say similar of bLiar and Cameron in years to come.
  7. I got banned from Cookery at school for taking pheasants and ducks in 'in the feather' and winding up the girliewirlies Won't have foreign muck like Lasagne in the house; nothing except good ole fashioned english grub here, like Jalfrazi.......... Just tried the bread after being forced to leave it to cool while I popped off and checked some mole traps (who'd work for a living? ) and I have to say; it's bloody lovely! On route I picked up a gallon of 'medicine' from the micro brewery (for services rendered), so it may well be bread, cheese and beer for supper. Mrs Rat is
  8. I wouldn't eat Warburtons Paulus. I used to do the PC there..........
  9. That must be why the Navy were so upset (not) when he was made First Lord of the Admiralty in 1939
  10. Really? You think so? He led us through the early part of the time that McMillan described as 'never had it so good'. Ended rationing (Atlee failed miserably to get production up enough), and did some other good stuff. Sadly, he was really passed it by then; Eden took over and made a mess of Suez. Personally, I think he would have made a good job of our post war recovery if he'd been given a chance. Sadly, the electorate believed the spin of the then Labour leader Atlee, much the same as they did with bLiar. Oh and without resurrecting the Thatcher thread, just a reminder tha
  11. Actually, the dog hairs may just be on my screen.......... Then again, making anything in this house without hairs is nigh on impossible
  12. its got bits stuck on it  LOL. It's a mixed grain bread flour. With a few dog hairs added for good measure
  13. My first loaf of bread. Hot out of the oven 3 minutes ago.
  14. I've never been what you could consider 'modern man'. In fact, I rarely even stretch to sandwich making. For the seventeen years of my marriage, Mrs Rat has done the cooking in our household, and I've cleared up the mess (which resembles an inner city after a riot) afterwards. Anyway, the penury that we've suffered in the last year or so has meant that I've had to forego my beloved Indian Takeaways, and I've been learning how to cook curries for myself that resemble something akin to the 'real deal' from the takeaway rather than a spicy ultra hot mishmash of whatever I happened to hav
  15. None taken Good topic anyway. Anyone else got any classic Churchill quotes?
  16. The post says Northern Ireland. Please do not use text talk.
  17. Fair point, well made. We have a beautiful and expressive language, but unfortunately not all are able to use it to it's full potential. That often leads to misunderstandings
  18. Just for GTE, here is my text alert tone winston_churchill.mp3
  19. Really? Care to elaborate? Quotes are all genuine, perhaps you would like to tell everyone otherwise? Churchill was a man who believed in 'destiny'. His overwhelming belief throughout his life was that one day the nation would call on him to help save the country; just like his ancestor the Duke of Malborough. Sadly, having studied the man and read many works by him and about him, I don't need to pray to the god that is google on this one. I must be really sad, because I even have recordings of some of his famous speeches; he really was one of the greatest orators
  20. Britains greatest wartime leader, of that, there is no question. Britains greatest war strategist? Doubtful. But let's not forget; he led this country through its darkest hour and was betrayed by the electorate who thought that Atlee would end rationing, provide jobs and homes for everyone, and give us all free healthcare. Some great Churchillisms: When someone suggested that Atlee was a modest man, "he has much to be modest about" When Lady Astor said "if I was married to you I would poison your coffee" Churchill: "Madam, if I had the misfortune to be married to you, I

This is going round and round and round..... Now the personal insults have started, I think it's time to lock up.

    Thatcher Dies

Not very long ago Scargill was campaigning to get the two blokes who MURDERED an innocent man by throwing a concrete block onto his car from a bridge pardoned and released. The man was a fan of Stalin, and was funded and instructed by Moscow. He went against not just Mrs T, but the whole country and tried to hold us all to ransom. He lost. I can't see many people being as interested when that scumbag finally departs this earth. Mrs T never lost an election; she was stabbed in the back by her own party, especially the likes of Heseltine, who hated the fact that she stood up

Sadly, your knowledge of history seems limited. If you lived in a council house, you had no right to buy it, let alone get up to % discount on the market value, until Mrs T gave everyone the right to buy. The poll tax was fair in my opinion (here we go) because the old rating system was totally unfair. Why should a family of four adults pay the same for the services that they use far more than me as I do for just me and Mrs Rat? It was the unions that tore the country apart. I read today of one father and son who haven't spoken since the strike in '84. Sad. She called Scargills

She's being cremated not buried. And the family are paying for the funeral, the state will obviously fund the security etc, but that's a drop in the ocean compared to the £75 billion she got back from Europe by standing up to the French and Germans. Our greatest peacetime leader deserves nothing less.
