  1. Thread now a bit tidier..... Sorry I wasn't around to deal with the idiot sooner. Happily, another mod has banned him now, so perhaps we can get back to the subject in hand. @ Moley. I'm missing Prolapse too (not).
  2. Load your pictures up via Photobucket. Download the app if you're doing if via mobile, and just copy and paste the IMG code. Oh, and a location will help!
  3. There are a few anchoring options here (link to Fourteenacre). This company have an outstanding reputation for customer service. You could also read the pinned topics on trap and snare anchoring HERE (link) by the legend that is Glen Waters.
  4. Looking good There'll be no stopping you now........
  5. Photobucket. Download the app, it automatically uploads your pictures, then just copy and paste the IMG link. It's a doddle.
  6. Keeping bait down permanently is no longer a legal option. All bait labels are now stating that 35 days should be the limit, and at the end of the treatment all bait must be removed. The reason for this is that if you leave the bait down all the time, you will be killing lots of woodmice etc, which are then eaten by raptors. There is an increasing level of anti-coagulant residues being found in certain species of raptor, and this it thought to be the cause. Treat the symptoms of the infestation, and if necessary, keep some traps permanently set to deal with any passing rats before
  7. As has already been said; each to his or her own. Face facts, running hares is now illegal, shooting them isn't. Sad? Yes. Fair? No. In some areas Hares do a lot of damage, and I'm afraid you have to accept that some sort of legal control needs to be carried out. You may not agree with it, but don't be too quick to condemn others.
  8. We've now got a pinned topic HERE (click link) for anyone to ask for call birds, or offer them for others.
  9. To make life easy, I thought we could have a pinned topic for people to offer spare call birds or ask for call birds for use with Larsen traps. Please post what you have or want, and a rough location here.
  10. I knew there was a reason I didn't like Rake. Middle class twat...
  11. Traditional Working Class Does that mean that I've got to start resenting everyone else even more than I already do? Will I have to condemn Thatcher at every opportunity, and claim that nothing is my fault?
  12. Now that's a very kind offer. It's posts like this that make this forum good.
  13. The people I know at NE are very familiar with traps and trapping. They may not know as much as some folks who do it day in day out, but they do know a bit. Most I've spoken to there are not against trapping or pest control, but have the unenviable task of making the whims of the legislators of the day work out in the real world. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes they don't. I'd certainly rather have them on my side than out to get me.
  14. The Magnum 116 is unique to the UK. 'Conibear' is the generic name given to this type of trap, after the inventor. OTC is the member with the real knowledge of the history. Alan Fenn famously used a statement claiming the Springers were illegal when they first came out. I've got a copy somewhere, but the orders have changed quite a bit since then.
  15. The only people whose interpretation matters are the magistrates. The only way you would find yourself in front of a magistrate is if Natural England (or the equivalent) put you there. Having spoken to several people at NE, their interpretation is that any clone used would have to be named on the order.
  16. I think it depends partly on what system of testing was used. From memory, the Duke was going to be the first to go through the new testing protocols, so if it has failed, there is no hope for anything except the Kania and the tube trap. The Duke I handled was very similar to the BMI. I can't see why it would fail. This is all part of the same problem. We need a level playing field for testing, and if they really want to do something to improve the humaneness of spring traps then they need to remove that 'clone' clause from the orders. How anyone could consider some of the crud
  17. Agreed Paulus, sorry I've veered off topic a bit. But...... This isn't a 'Tax'. It's the removal of a benefit. If you want extra rooms then you pay for them rather than the tax payer. Not a tax at all. And......... First brought in by LABOUR. It's just been extended to include social housing.
  18. Possibly because most councils couldn't run a tap and it's cheaper to let a private not for profit company run the Social Housing stock? I honestly don't know. What I do know is that building more social housing, and not all in ghettos in towns, would help reduce the housing shortage and give a whole heap of doleys a reason to get up each morning. It'll never help me because I'll never be eligible for social housing because of my lack of kids. I'll always either struggle to pay a mortgage, or have to line the pockets of private landlords. And no, I'm not bitter................
  19. Good post Paulus. I can't understand why we need Child Benefit at all. It costs a fortune to administer, and could just as easily be added on to means tested benefits like tax credits or income support. And as for winter fuel payments and free tv licenses, don't get me started....... what kind of mad system is it that pays millionaires for extra fuel in the winter? Some of the wealthiest (in terms of disposable income) people I've met are pensioners..... The poorest people I've known have been hardworking folks who don't claim any benefits. They don't fit into a convenient 'box
  20. I understand that Paulus. Last year I was seriously ill. For the first time ever, I claimed benefits. 25 years of paying tax and national insurance and I got £67 per week. That didn't even pay the food bills. We don't have kids, so have never been able to claim tax credits/family credit or whatever. If I have a bad month at work we have to just soldier on and try and get through to the next month. Sadly, like many others, whenever I see benefit claimants on the news or whatever, they seem to be sat on brand new leather sofas, with widescreen TV's and mobile phones to hand.
  21. The tube trap is indeed a useful tool to add to the armoury. I would suggest just chucking a handful of whole maize through it for squirrels in forestry. Don't be fooled into thinking that this is the same as the WCS tube trap available in the US - it isn't. The UK version has a stronger spring and an extra killing bar. The one that is approved for use in the UK is only available from Magnum traps and their distributors. I understand that Duke bodygrippers are going through the approval process, and have been for some time. Until they are through, you have the choice of BMI b
  22. What short memories people have. This isn't a tax; it's a way of stopping paying for the luxury of extra rooms. Labour first brought it in for privately owned properties. The government have now extended it to Social Housing. While I agree with it in principle, there must be safeguards to ensure that some people aren't penalised for being disabled etc. There was a bloke on the radio yesterday moaning because he needed the extra rooms in case his kids wanted to stay. I well remember going to stay with my dad and having to sleep on a sofa bed because he had a visitor using the s
  23. Wow, now this is turning into an interesting topic. Heritage, I agree with most of what you say, except the bit about pest controllers etc not needing traps because of the chemical alternatives. In the 25 years I've been in pest control, we've seen the number of products we can use for rats fall to just a few. Even where you can choose the chemical solution, it's now so tightly regulated that it becomes expensive. Added to that, we now have increasing resistance to second generation anti-coagulants (SGARs) which effectively precludes the use of them over an increasingly large part of
