I live about 50 yards from Hadrians Wall, and one day I was walking home with the old Doberman, when I saw a guy metal detecting on the plough...I asked him how he was doing, he gave me a couple of old coins before I could explain I was only walking my dog, I wasn't the landowner !!! Never seen him since !! LOL !! Cheers.

I don't think the breed is for me, I prefer an "allrounder" type; but the first one I saw was Scotsmans dog, a couple of years ago at Bedlington, and I've seen it a few times since, and some of it's prodgeny, and they are awesome looking dogs !! I know a few guys who have been out with them and they say they are very good workers. The few I've seen have been very fit looking animals. So if it is your type of dog, go for it ! Cheers.

All of what ive seen are fell sheep that are farmed by the local farmer. They have coloured marks on them that tells you there owned. Mate, it's only hearsay, but the guy who supposedly bred the 1st Bull Arabs, told his mates that his bull bitch had been mated by his old dog "Arab" !! It wasn't a Saluki, just the name he called the dog ! The "BullArab" never shows any Saluki traits, and I doubt that Salukis were available at stud, especialy to pig dogs, back in those days ! I don't normally breed off a bitch until it's had 3 seasons work. However i lost Vixens dam a couple of months ago and would like a pup myself to bring on. vixen is due in season any time now but i'm not going to get her covered until the spring, when she's had another seasons work under her belt. Vixen has done everything i've asked of her and more and that was in her first full seasons work, I ran her alongside charpolski's bitch Delta when he visited a for a couple of weeks last season and maybe he will comment on her ability. Theres an awful lot of talk about desert bred salukis on here, also, Karens name has been brought into it; her dad imported salukis from the middle east when he lived there. I'ts a good thread, but I feel people should talk about what they have actualy done; not hearsay. Cheers.

I think possibly Saudi UAE, there is a saluki centre there, plus their is more money in Saudi, those filthy rich arabs will have the best for running gazelle and desert hares, the only people to have better may be tribesmen who have had the same lines for donkeys years, just watched a documentry on saluki's by National Geographic (it's been on sky before), atvb Richard ok richard i know of the saluki centre the man talks the talk but i have heard things !! about it wouldnt be my choice yes the saudis have got the money and they can buy from anywere!! in the world including the uk

CP i dont know what vet your using but if there is no choice but to PTS There are vets there that can help for £40-50 although imo it should be no more than £20-30 Max, the vet in question is a big "franchise" in the Newcastle area, I'll pm you the name if neccassary. The last dog I had put down was a 17 year old Saluki, in the middle east. My vet, a Scotsman, wouldn't charge me to do this, as he had looked after the dogs health all it's life The vet I was using was Hillary Ross, but she has now retired and her practice has been taken over by a vet group that I wouldn't take a disease

Seems pricey that CP mate. It's only £35 to have a dog PTS at our local vets. My brother recently had to have a lurcher put down; £120 if you dispose of the body; £190 if they do. Right rip off ! Cheers.

Years ago, anyone could have their pet treated at the PDSA, no "means testing". But I think with the way vets fees went sky high, the PDSA were becoming overwhelmed !! Now the criteria is that you must be in receipt of housing benifit or council tax benefit; being on the dole isn't enough ! I think this is a bad system,what if you are on the dole, but living with parents or partner ? You wouldn't qualify for these benefits, so wouldn't meet the PDSA's rules ! Another thing I find strange is in this case they put the dog down, vets charge around £100-£200 for this; but they wouldn't "x-ray" t

A young bitch of mine cut her wrist on broken glass and I thougt there was glass in the wound. The nearest vet was the PDSA, so I took her there. The receptionist asked if I was registered, I said I wasn't, she said never mind and pointed to a large sign on the wall saying "No sick animal turned away". The vet sedated the dog, explored the wound and stitched and dressed it. They told me to come back to have the stiches removed. Afer the stiches were removed they printed off a bill of what it would have cost me at a normal vet, £190, but said all I needed to do was put a donation in the envalo
