A historical question: really carefully formulated LOL
chartpolski replied to skycat's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
When I started back in the 60's, (o.k., not that far back in the grand scheme of thing), hare was the main Lurcher quarry for me, then rabbits, then deer. As it was all daytime,we didn't see as many foxes as we would when lamping took off ! Foxes were the quarry of the Terrier men, and they were welcome to them as far as we were concerned... you couldn't sell a fox in the pub, or eat it, so they were generaly avoded. When we started lamping, somehow foxes became fair game, and some lads changed the types of dogs they ran to reflect this. So I would suppose it was the change over from daywalkin -
Which cross would be faster...???
chartpolski replied to falconman's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I've got a 23" Beddy/Grey/Deer/Whippet, and she's fast ! When she's runing alongside my 29" f1 Deer/Grey, her legs sem like a blur, yet the Deer cross looks like she is just loping !! Then the Deer cross changes gear and the speed REALY shows ! So, some big dogs can look slow, and little dogs can look fast, it's when they are running together you can see the difference ! As for a 3/4 Collie being as fast or faster than an f1 Deer x........ Cheers. -
would your dog return to you mid course?
chartpolski replied to Lukehunt's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If I had a dog that could be called off mid course......it wouldn't be with me for long !! Cheers. -
Is that Bosun11 who is a new Moderator ? Cheers.

Then you haven't a clue how the 'net works !! c**ts can cause trouble just by typing !! Am I missing something??, you claim to know the guy and then you're asking if he's sending viral emails. As stated if you have to ask, you can't know him. Just an observation. I know Tom very well, I'm trying to make him aware that there is someone sending viral e-mails in his name...as this post proves, I'm not the only one to have got it ! On facebook there are a lot of others who have got this viral e-mail.... I doubt very much that Tom has instigated it, and want people to be aware of it

Tam, I tried PM'ing you on Moochers, but no reply. Do you know there is a viral e-mail going round in your name ? It's already infected one of my comps and I had another e today, but didn't open it as it was the same as the last one. It was copied to all our, mine and your, freinds and aquintences. Please tell me you didn't instigate this...I've never fell out with you, you've had the hospitality of my home and the freindship of my family, I know your a better man than this, but please tell me you are not responsible for this viral e-mail ! cHEERS.

I enjoy your posts, and yes, I try to be honest with everything I say. I don't think that there are very many Lurchers being bred for a "specific purpose" ! Yes there are some, but the vast majority of Lurchers being bred now are simply being bred for money ! The people who are getting into the game now, are being sold shit, bred from shit ! The people who have been in the game a long time and know what's what will look around and get the real stuff, the majority of which won't be advertised ! If you buy a pup off E-Pupz, don't be dissapointed when it turns out shit !! Cheers.

WOW, Whin, you CAN spell, well allmost, but at least under your new user name we can understand what you are saying ! I've only ever seen one Alsation/Greyhound, and it was handy, but no better than an average Lurcher. Welcome back ! Cheers.

Wilf, get some decent pics of the pup up !! I'm interested to see how this litter turn out ! Cheers.

Just an example of how "luck" comes into it.......... today I was walking my two dogs back across the field from my allotment when they took of across a wheat field after something and the deer cross came back with a split on the top of her front paw, and the little bitch was limping on her back leg ! Now this was 50 yards from my house, on soft ground, and both bitches are fit and have great feet !! Not an injury all winter, then this on the back field !! Even the best looking feet aren't invincible. Cheers.
-
Don't know what happened there, my PC wouldn't upload the pics !! Cheers.

Here's a bitch of mine from around 40 year ago, one of the firsrt Saluki types I'd heard of A first cross Deer/Grey bitch I'm running now; Cheers.
-
My dogs get almost no road walking and they have great feet. Some breed/types have bad feet no matter what. Some people swear by road walking, but in all the time I've had dogs, I've never made it a priority. Cheers.

Unusual for me to agree with Pantsdropper... but Bird seems a very decent guy, who contributes a fair bit, and works his dogs, so doesn't need slagging. Cheers.

working young dogs through the summer
chartpolski replied to davehunter1's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I have to have a chuckle when people talk about "The Season" !!!! There is no "season" for vermin; OK, I understand, and respect the "September to Febuary " season that stops the hunting of mating, pregnant or young, and this usualy refers to hares.....but rabbits and foxes, to a farmer or keeper, are fair game ALL year round ! And most of the people who talk about "The Season" are running dogs, which of course is ilegal at ANY time, with the exception of rabbits and rats ! I'd LOVE to know the real numbers of dogmen who still run a summer hare, it will be far more than those who admit it !! LO -
I suppose it depends on your outlook; ifyou are just in it for sport,ok, but it's a different situation if you are a pest controller or a keeper. They will look on a den full of dead cubs as something they won't have to spend time killing at a later date. Cheers.

I don't realy understand your post, mate ? Aren't foxes fair game all year round ? Cheers.

Do You Leave A Run In Your Dog Coming Home.
chartpolski replied to ferret features's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Yes. Cheers. -
And they eat horse, frogs and snails !! Why on earth would anyone want to eat hedgehog ?? There's nothing on them, they're covered in lice, impossible to skin, (forget the romantic gypsy notion of covering them with clay and baking them, it just doesn't hapen !), leave them alone, they eat the slugs and snails, etc, that ruin the veggies in my garden !! LOL !! Cheers.

Hey !! It's all a wind up, it's only the internet !! To answer the origional question, I'd say again...Give the dog the best kenneling, best food, best grooming/conditioning and pleanty exercise, then when the season starts, pleanty work, and it should all come together ! There is NO magic formula for training working dogs !! Cheers.
-
Obviously "Scotlands Lurcher man " and "Coursing Man" Are either the same person or are two kids trying for a wind up, but they realy shouldn't come on a hunting site..they soon get found out !LOL!! They can't even take the piss correctly! Anyhow, I'm bored of them now... BYE BYE !!
-
I gave you a straight answer, mate ! What was wrong with that ? "Coursing Man"...Perhaps you need to change your user name, how much coursing have you done, if you need to ask how to get a dog fit ??? Cheers.
