  1. Mine always looked fit, but I never had him fully fit because every time I slipped him he came back injured ?
  2. At birth for me mate, yes you could be culling the best pup but you’d never know would you. Much better than having to cull them at 6-8 weeks that wouldn’t be a nice experience. Say just for example I had a litter of 10, 5 of each, and I had homes for 4 bitches & 2 dogs, then I’d just leave that many on the bitch, the 6 remaining pups would get more feeding off the bitch & I wouldn’t have the worry of finding homes for the other 4, then the continuing worry of whether they were being mistreated or not.
  3. Finding homes is the hardest thing, I’ve seen pups out of serious good dogs gifted to what lads thought were top homes and 6 months down the line a picture surfaces of the dog looking as if it’s been sleeping on the streets. Feet like a duck & dull coat etc. If my young bitch makes a good one when I breed her pups will only go to close mates I run with and I’d cull any surplus, not everyone agrees with that way but my dogs are my life and I’d lose sleep if I thought a pup I bred wasn’t getting the best of everything
  4. The rippling muscles thing is a lot to do with the skin & coat of a dog, thin skinned short coated dogs always looked ripped when they’re fit, well they should if the muscles are properly hardened anyway. Rough coated dogs like your collie/beddy crosses aren’t ever going to have that heavily muscled look. If you’ve got a short haired dog that’s not reasonably muscled up then chances are it’s not been doing enough running to get properly fit.
  5. Just the way I like them mate I can’t stand to look at a dog with it’s pins sticking right out I prefer a bit of meat on them ?
  6. AWL using a photograph with “shooting photography” at the bottom, says it all ?
  7. A lot of fitness is internal, can’t be seen by looking at a picture, how many dogs do you see at shows looking like an oil painting, jogged for miles & diets strictly monitored, no scars of war wounds though, fresh as the day they were born. Dogs like that always look fit, but if you saw them behind a good hare or 30 rabbits you’d see they’ve never actually been fit.
  8. I’m guilty of that myself I think a lot of dogs bred aren’t ran enough, unfortunately I can’t put a picture of my fit dog up as my young one broke his neck in October at 18 months old leaving me with just a pup. Picture on the hill was a week before he died, and 2nd picture is the young pup, 6 months old next week, she’s bred out of the white dogs half sister.
  9. I had a dog out of romeo that looked bursting fit all year round, even after a 10 week lay off it looked immaculate but that was mainly due to its skin & coat being so thin you could nearly see every muscle fiber. I prefer a rough coated dog myself and I don’t really go in for this ripped condition some people like to have their dogs in, I like a bit of a back on them, stands them in good sted for a long day/night in bad weather. Mate of mine has a coursing bred dog you’d think to look at it the dog was out every day & night but it’s lucky to get 1 run a week, just genetics.
  10. Agree with mc hull there a lot of chasing going on didn’t see any coursing though, hare turning the dogs not other way round. They’ve got speed plenty of it but reckon a good winter hare in this country would turn them inside out tbh.
  11. Just depends how highly you prioritise the dog game in your life mate, I’d lose a job no problem before I stopped running my dogs, jobs come and go life’s too short not to enjoy what you love doing. Comes down to a bit of stubbornness with me as well, apart from family dogs is the most important thing in the world to me, and believe me it’s a close run thing ? so no amount of nosey c**ts, police or politicians are going to stop me doing it.
  12. I’ve never had permission, do more daytime work than lamping, people would have you believe it’s impossible to do certain things in daylight hours but usually it’s just because they’re not willing to do it.
  13. Problem with a thermal is everyone knows about them, if lads had kept their mouth shut they’d have been bang on for years to come but because of your loudmouth types they’re just a 2 and a half grand bit of kit that the police are looking for now.
  14. That’s not true tbh, still a good few lads getting plenty done in the daytime and surviving, just takes a brain and a bit of bottle.
  15. Easier to get your dog plenty running without it tbh, no thinking “I can run here but I can’t run over there” or “I can run these but I can’t run them”. Agree with the above comments as well there’ll be very few people with the exception of some that stick to rabbits, that can get the best out of their dog sticking to permission. Best dogs are usually owned by lads that’ll go anywhere and run anything.
  16. If you look at coursing dogs these days they’re all bred well, same names in all the pedigrees but a lot of the big names weren’t even up to much themselves you’re going back 3/4 generations to find a dog that was ran hard. I’d sooner use a dog of unknown breeding that was killing plenty of stuff if it was me.
  17. Don’t know how Hoover got a name as a decent possible stud dog, it was sold on pets4homes for £500
  18. Spot on, even the videos they put up of big mush which must’ve been the best ones it looked very average, can’t see why anyone used it but tbh most dog lads are like sheep just follow eachother.
  19. Personally I wouldn’t worry about it, just go mooching in a few places and if a farmer approaches talk to him decent, he’ll either let you have permission or just tell you he can’t have you on, you’ll get the odd one shouting a bit but 95% of them will be sound if you are, though really if you use your head you shouldn’t get caught often anyway. Even if you do get bother, it’s only a bit of dog work it’s not a hanging offence like the red hot brigade would have you believe.
  20. Was just wondering because going by your posts I thought you were a big fan of them so surprised me you’d want to change them so much by putting a coursing dog on them ?
  21. Do they lack a bit of fire those galgos? Suppose need to weigh up your pro’s and cons might take away more than it adds just depending on what way it throws out. A lot depends on what line of coursing blood you go to though because they’re all so different even though they’ve got the same basic make up.
  22. If the galgo suits you what would make you want to use a British coursing stud Sandy? Genuine question what do you think they could add to your bitches?
  23. Think everyone’s had it if they’re honest mate, bought in to a big name and been disappointed. You’ve hit the nail on the head there as well dogs that’s done the bare minimum running put to stud because they’re half tidy bred, cover a couple of good bitches & the dogs get the credit for the pups when you could’ve probably stuck a collie on those bitches and they’d have produced something.
  24. That’s right nobody saw it run mind you, they were just going off the word of the owner who wanted stud fees for it. Funny thing with dog world when people hear something they just repeat it like sheep so fake info can travel fast. But 100% right how good can a dog be if it end up on pets4homes
  25. No that was genuine mate, well the dog was owned by a peddler to begin with, he was always trying to push it for stud & think when he realised he wasn’t going to get much business he sold the dog and it went on the merry go round.
