  1. Brains the most important thing for a coursing dog tbh a clever dog will kill hares most will miss, need be fast for me though nothing worse than a plodder turning a 2 minute hare in to a 5 minute war ?
  2. I agree no need for that these days, that’s the trouble with a lot of coursing lines people still breeding dogs for the fens but trying to run them in fields.
  3. Be just the job if you’re running small fields I’d say, based on what I’ve seen out of him they don’t waste any time
  4. That was my point, hyped up load of shit ?
  5. As far as I know Hoover was up for sale on pets4homes for £500
  6. “I’ve been in the game 40 years” is a firm favourite. 40 years of doing f**k all in winter & talking shit at dogs shows in the summer is probably more accurate.
  7. Does he actually not run a dog? I feel daft replying now I wouldn’t even have bothered if I knew that
  8. I expect a lot of my dogs but I’m not arrogant enough to think everyone else has to as well. They feed them & walk them, it’s up to them what standard they expect. If you keep your own stuff between yourself and a few mates, which every keen lad I know does, then other people’s standards won’t affect you, so don’t let it worry you just enjoy your dogs & let other people enjoy theirs.
  9. To be honest I couldn’t care less whats in another mans kennels, they can keep whatever standard they’re happy with and I won’t go out my way to run anyone’s dogs down. I’ve found the men with the best stock often do the least criticising.
  10. I can see the dogs no world beater, the lad probably knows that himself but you’ve jumped on it like you do with every post, letting everyone know how much of an authority you are on all things lurcher. Give it a rest it’s getting boring now everyone knows you’ve got the best dogs in the country just leave it at that
  11. The last 3 comments are why nobody posts anything decent on forums or sites anymore. What’s the point just so it can get picked apart by all the experts
  12. He’s out of Benji I think. Just going off personal experience I’ve had pups from Romeo, Jamie & Max. I’ve seen quite a few run out of the others as well, scouser, Lucas etc. The one out of Max was head and shoulders above the rest, faster, tougher, and much more commited. Unfortunately I don’t have him any more I lost him only recently, but if I was wanting to breed a litter of coursing dogs I’d go straight to that dog. I think the bitch deserves most of the credit but seeing as the lads asking about stud dogs, for what it’s worth that’s the dog to use in my eyes.
  13. If I had to pick one it would be Eddie Commons dog Max, seen a couple run out of him and he’s leaving durable stuff with a good turn of pace, most importantly they seem to want stuff dead rather than just following it to the next county. But truthfully studs are over rated it’s mostly down to the bitch anyway.
  14. A good honest grafter that’s out regular would be my choice not a stud dog that’ll likely cost you half a months wages. We’re at the right time of year now so best to go see them run and make your mind up.
  15. Honestly why would I want it? I don’t need it, I get plenty running for my dogs and very little trouble to be honest. Problem with permission is on occasion id have to make passing small talk with vermin like you.
  16. I didn’t mean every lad with permission, some of my mates have bits where the farmer lets them jump on and they’re good lads that I like having a run out with, wouldn’t do a bad turn to anyone. What I mean is there’s dog lads out there, that when they’re given a bit of land to work their dogs on they turn on the poaching lads, start sticking them in to keepers to get in the good books, you know the type there’s one on every shoot. I don’t think every man with a bit of permission is bottleless far from it, but the ones that turn on other dog lads to get in with keepers are the lowest of the low
  17. I don’t know where you get that from, I’m superior to nobody. I just like getting out for a rake about with my dogs if I’m honest I’m happiest when I’m left alone.
  18. Proper country men aren’t they, blasting f**k out of hares with thermals & rifles. No proper country man could do a thing like that.
  19. I don’t know if you’re on about me or not, but I’m not crying or jealous about anything. I don’t want permission to run my dogs, I’ve never had any, I just go where I want and that’s the way I like it. I don’t need to phone ahead and check if I’m alright to go on, or if there’s any bits I need to keep away from, or ask what I can and can’t run. I don’t damage or steal anything so I’d say I’m respectful in that sense but that’s as far as it goes with me, where wild animals are concerned I don’t see them as anyone’s property, so no permission needed. If you feel the need to ask first
  20. Spot on, a lot of lads too scared to poach so get themselves in with keepers. Makes no difference to me but then they’ve got the cheek to try and preach to the rest of us about how poachings wrong just because they’ve got themselves a bit of permission. Truth of the matter is those men side with the shooting community, because they know if shooting stops, the dogs will have to stop as well, because the thought of hunting without permission terrifies them. They won’t admit it but that’s the facts.
  21. Never damaged a thing in my life, never stole anything either, I’ll deliberately avoid birds if possible as well, who wants a load of pheasants making noise when they’re poaching? I’m as respectful as can be where land is concerned and I’ve had them ringing police on me more times than I can count. You’ll never catch me asking for permission to run my dog. I took a walk on a keepered grouse moor the other day, I’ve actually walked 4 seperate moors in that area, I’ve not counted more than 4 white hares on any of those moors. Walk a single unkeepered moor in the highlands and you’ll see 20
  22. So if a keeper rings police on a lad running a hare is he a packham supporter?
  23. Why would we stick together with men that tell the police to take our dogs off us? f**k the lot of them. If lads are too scared to poach they need the keepers to give them permission but for lads that just go where they feel like it doesn’t make any difference.
  24. Best way to be they’re not standing on shoot days talking about how they can help the poor lurcher men, let them sort their own problems out if it means I get less trouble when out for a run then it suits me fine.
