We’d get a choice of crisps for our sandwiches 3/4 Sundays then Iceland fish and chips the 4th always home made trifle laced with sherry always thought it was mad no one smoked at my grans yet when her cousin came round she was allowed to chain smoke in the kitchen with an ashtray at the table door and window open…. Women never let the packet leave her hand just lit one from the one she was finishing …. And she’s out lived the lot of them

First decent hill walk for the eldest

Plenty roe around there @jok then when your heading out over mellerstian direction lifting with badgers there like spaniels quartering the fields on a night time 5/6 a field how there’s hares on it I’ll never know …… few whiffs of a fox around as we were walking up that’s some race you describe on the Eildon’s! Watched a litter of cubs in the banking across from old railway station this year there was a couple killed on the road and think she moved them down into Melrose rather than up and over have sent those jay feathers up north to a good friend hopefully send you a couple pics -
Eldest decided on holiday she wanted to start hill walking so at the weekend got her brother away to his papas and the pigeons and got her away up the local hill easier options she wasn’t interested in Patience tested couple shoulder carry’s no tears some cross words both of ways but she was buzzing to get to the top absolutely doting on the dog this summer takes him lunch outside to have with him the works see if she keeps it up through into next year and be about time for a little whippet @jok black hill looking over towards Mosshouses will try the Eildon’s next week

I’m looking forward to coming down pal ….. be interested to see how you think my dogs runs you have different opinions to others on here when you talk about different runs and different dogs I like that one thing he’ll not loose gass big ground will suit him Drovers seen a few clips of him some dog round cover as well had greyhound boy go over him before last day of the season ran like a different dog Don’t think the Scottish lads will be coming up the road embarrassed that’s for sure all about the craic anyway

Every male funeral under the age of 55 I’ve been to has been drug OD or suicide except one. Scottish Borders quite rural place this I’ve lost count how many I went to school with was one or the other suicide mostly my best pal 9 years ago lad that yoused to work for me in between and and old school friend just the other week. (Edited to say there’s been many more in between) Mental health, no access to children, drug debts, debts, trauma, women the list is endless as to why but when your in it and that thought that the only way out is not to be here must be one of the most powerful though

Moments of joy mate can’t put a price on that! I’m blessed that ten years hard graft carried me through the 3 bad years of addiction and pain and chaos now 18 months down the line I’ve still got work that pays very very well I can graft all week do my recovery get kids every weekend and take time of to work dog come winter Used to be far more driven but was another addiction to work then the ego comes in then it becomes to much and burns to the ground simple life now and fully present when I have the kids watching them grow up they don’t need hundred spent on them or care what ca

There’s book think it’s called steel bonnets Stiff think we’ve both mentioned it before on a book thread opens up going on about surnames from the debatable lands moving to America pushing the frontier further and further to get away from maybe not rule of laws the right term but freedom and independence from rules and over government I’ve also read somewhere about the mindset of the appalachians being similar to border revievers think that was in outliers book I’ll have to fact check myself on all the above tonight

My brothers half x never done a bean with it keeps him in very good condition though total pain in the arse in the house and in the van whining git but to be fair just needs an outlet waste of a dog really

I’ve a little cocker x patterdale bitch going on 11 now i think lad of here bred her down in Barnsley what a bitch she’s been one of the most enjoyable dogs I’ve owned still put the miles in now never stops but far easier than a spaniel and won’t drop in turned her hat to everything apart from digging and being shot over but neithers my cup of tea would have another tomorrow if the right litter came up

I’m spewing at the thought of it …. I’m in new estate the built at back of the tip along from Langlee they called in Melrose gait to make it more attractive just switched rooms with the kids other weekend and realised I can see the Eildon’s from the window though i must get a picture for you
