  1. Classic case of neglect. Bringing a cold gun in to the warm. Condensation forms. Apart from that, actually firing a rifle produces water vapour. That can condense on a cold barrels internal surface. Especially if just one shot is fired. In cold weather when you return home just rod the barrel or use a pull through to remove any condensed water that may of formed but wait until the condensation has dried from the exterior first.
  2. Shot hundreds of squirrels this year out of the beaches. It'll be acorns and hawthorn next for pheasants but they prefere insect of which there is still plenty. Need a touch of frost. Wheat will be the last resort for the pheasants
  3. The answer is simple. You won't understand, you live in a city where everything is provided for you via dirty diesel trucks. Where vermin controllers turn up in their dirty diesel vans discreetly to poison your rats. You, bless you won't understand the ways of the countryside. Even the government recognises the need for firearms in the public domain. They must henceforth know more than you. So don't worry about it and return to your people watching. Bye.
  4. Still loads of insects, spiders beat wheat any day for pheasants! Had to turn a fat lamb over the other day. Fortunately I got there before the crows. Tonight I sniped at said crows and eventually ended up with Beaky! Meet Beaky, looks like we've met before, maybe!
  5. The world is going mad and madder by the minute.
  6. That was a rare sight Ben. I estimate I've shot over 300 squirrels since August. There are more jays this year roo.
  7. Just got to try different rounds. The twist isn't really a big deal unless it is very fast 1:8-7... then you will be wanting 55gn or more. There is no better really, just what is right for a; your rifle, and b; you.
  8. They do in Scotland, something happens to the deer if they cross the border! The problem is moronic experts, snobs and committee types having their say in the law making. When I look back to my stalking days I can think of scores of roe that would of fallen to a 357 or 44. Even ball from a muzzleloader. Idiots.....
  9. My favourite caliber, no, one of my favourite calibres is 357, with any weight bullet! Well 125gn and up.
  10. You can't be to far from me then! It's not you educating my fox's is it?
  11. Yeah, I never understood it really. Everyone bangs on about plastic, single use plastic, recycle, recycle and recycle the recycled. Choked birds, micro plastic in sea life. Plastic burning, very nasty. Its bad stuff so ban it. Oh, hang on err it's a by product from oil, oh year like diesel is from making petrol. That's it. Petrol is good diesel is bad. So err what we going to do with the diesel and err for that matter plastic? Pretend it's not produced? No no, we have plans for it but it's top secret shhhhh. Shhhhhh, don't mention the fact diesel and plastic production doe
  12. They like the wheat moistened. Hand feeding on straw beats any hopper. It's just not that simple for volunteers.....
  13. Found a rabbit playing with two hares Sunday morning. Never seen it before.
  14. I got a stoat this morning. Not much about. I did find two hares and a rabbit playing together. Never seen that before.
  15. Oh and I blanked too last night. I stepped through an open gateway to check the stubble I was pigeon shooting on only to have one staring at my wide dark silhouette ?. I'll be back....
  16. Check the missing dogs page in the local rag.... ? I've noticed before how fox's like hanging around in young rape. Is it worms slugs and snail?. Or is it ground birds roosting in it? One thing is for sure. Charlie won't be there just because it gives him a warm fuzzy feeling!
  17. They are OK. But difficult to skin. I've tried all the methods. I eventually settled on placing a grenade up their vent. That peels them a treat.
  18. You know what, I'm getting soft. I don't like shooting many of them anymore due to not having an outlet but the farmer said he wanted them! If there is one thing that bloody winds me up it's a mard arsed dog! You feed the ungrateful thing. Keep it warm. Take it out, but give it a leathering when it needs it, oh no, can't do that, might upset it! Stupid dog.
