Said the farmer, woodies he ment. I thought why not so grabbed the Tula and 100 cartridges, deeks and dog. As it happens I could drive from road to field on this place for once. Nice. Anyway the wind was perfect and a good flight line was on. I had some good shooting for a couple of hours. No need to go over the cartridge count to birds ratio, that's just boring. The bloody dog ran in, grabbed the bird went running around, me after it but before I could grab her and leather her the pigeons wing obscured her vision and she ran at full speed into a round bale! Friday afternoon on squirrels
Sausagedog replied to Dervburner's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Excellent fun. Just watch they don't do a charge from behind you in that pop up! -
.....has started. Nothing trad about my pheasant shooting here boys! I like to use frontstuffers, flintlocks especially and I care not whether it is flying or I've stalked it! I still had a loaded flintlock from squirrel shooting the other day. Don't worry it was made safe. Plugged vent, flint out. Flag in muzzle. I got up in the dark and went and waited for a fox that sometimes I light up but disappears rapidly. I left it a few squirrels as bait the other day but they ain't hungry this time of year. It never appeared at an ancient fox trail I have had much luck with o

Can one buy a sub 12 80. Get a slot on the licence and then ramp it up and enter it on the licence?
-
Thanks for that. Good reading ?

I found a cell of squirrels in a wooded slang of beech, chestnut and oaks. I visit this slang come autumn every year. Anyway. I blasted 8 with a flinchlock but decided to take the hw99 today. I shot 9 but boy the pellets I was using were garbage. A superdome look alike that simply would not kill them swiftly! I never liked superdomes in 22 when they came out and I was unpleasantly reminded why today! Anyway my 22rimfire is getting little use. I was wondering what non pcp fac air options are available? Especially in .25. Without going into to much detail I can say that I w

Mine are country fox's. I admit the ones that stay 300yds away I have no chance. Ironically the one I have that is ir and lampshy stays 300yds away or more so its not one I've shot at and quite possibly was shot at with a larger rifle. Mistakes happen. Now if I shot over vast flat grounds or open hill I would probably have a 243 or 270 or something between those but not a hmr. No in that scenario a hmr would trump a 22 as a knockabout rifle anyhow. As it happens my land is handy for the hmr. If they are to far I walk closer. If they dodge me I go another night. Others have

I was watching a video of some dogs baying a pig in brash, they would not go in though. Then comes bounding in a teckel and straight into the brash pile it goes, all he'll breaks loose and the large pig is ejected by a tiny dog. Lol.

Nearly but not quite....

Sweeet, what is it? ( I know it's a bloody dog?) Dog/bitch. Teckel???

I will hold my hands up forever more on this, I too use to berate the hmr but I have had to eat my words many times. This summer I have taken many crows with it too at respectable distances that would be a waste of time with a 22!

I've always struggled to get geese with a muzzleloader and be legal at the same time! Steel is a joke in a muzzleloader, not enough velocity really. Then one day in summer my local had a choked Pedersoli 10g double so I snapped it up. He also had some old Kent 12g cartridges loaded with #3 TM, so I got them too. A good friend got me under some flighting geese and around 50g of shot got one goose per barrel at about thirty yards plus. The next outing was not so good but I had some good fortune. The geese saw me and so turned meaning my friend and his son st

You can keep the boney horns John, I'm thinking tasty food ?
-
Well mate its already started here. Three greylags to my new (to me) 10g double frontstuffer.
-
Never ending job mate but don't let them know I need a larger rifle!

Please don't let my foxes find out 17hmr don't work on them lads? shot dozens since my last visit lads with hmr. 100% success rate. Now I use to berate the hmr but ever since I manned up over and got one it is my go to rifle. In fact my 22 is all but redundant! And to be honest, all though 22 ammo is cheaper I spend more on it, why? Because its that boring I plink a box away whenever I go out with it! Noise wise I find the hmr unobtrusive. It's supersonic crack is nothing really. Anyway. You all OK?

Looks like it got a slug too!

Open yer windows you smelly old badger ?

I only have a few foxs about at the moment and now they have stopped barking finding them is like looking for a needle in a haystack! Had a good run this season. Three vixens and four dogs. December and January. That's good on my little patch.

That all right. I've done that too and most probably will again.

I'm back on stainless tig pipe work. Its took me a month to get back up to speed. Not show style. But good purge and penetration all the same.
