  1. What is the meat like on the cwd? Good session by the way?
  2. That's crazy, they are just a cnc mass produced item! The world has gone mad! Talking of autos, one I tried once and was impressed with was the Winchester m74! Most have no scope mounting but some later ones were grooved and some owners had them drilled and tapped for bases. They are super reliable and field strip in a second. They are so good Britain bought them during the last great war for guerrilla warfare if invaded by Hitler!
  3. They use a large recoil spring and quite long. It would be easy to get the next wire thickness down spring so they cycle subs. If someone just tries to shorten the standard spring it causes more issues. This is probably where all tales of woe stem!
  4. Your missing nothing mate. There is nothing wrong at all with the old brno action. 453, never knew they did one. What was the difference? The 457 is cheaper to make. Has a shorter action, read scope mounts are cramped unless one fits a rail but the trigger is more adjustable but still benefits from a lighter spring. Keep the 452's Deker, nothing wrong with them at all.
  5. Just tie a target to the tail of a rabbit or squirrel ?
  6. Glad it all worked out Stav. You've put so much into it. Well done ?
  7. Think John had one on here?? I have shot a 511. It was OK. All steel. Fed perfectly.
  8. I loved it except, it's trigger was basic although it was a long time ago and now I could probably sort it. And the double stack magazine was very unreliable but better with high velocity rounds. The dirt and unburnt powder would jam the mag follower. It needed a single or rotary stack. I often had fails to feed or cock the hammer on subsonic ammo. Other than that it was very accurate indeed. I shot my longest rabbit with a 22 with it and Winchester laser ammo. I won't say how far, it was a fluke really but the accuracy was there. I often wonder what one would be like in wmr.
  9. I only ever had one rifle shoot them reasonably well, a Remington 597 of all things!
  10. Never saw my chicken killer last night but I asked the chap if he had seen any pheasant up the top end. Just a couple he said in the pit. It was bloody full of them!
  11. Fireworks are good! Sent this large vixen right in my path!
  12. Then there is barrel harmonics. If the mod has the barrel in a phase of vibration so it is low when the bullet leaves and the sight adjusted to compensate but then remove the mod it may give the impression it shoots strong by deceiving the shooter by a viewed higher striking point or zero.
  13. Most the hypers using light bullets around 30gn really suffer coming through the sound barrier of which is usually well under 100yds. Bullets around 40gn fair better at the transition distance. A friend of mine always had computer print outs of trajectories for his cf rifles and loads. Not one ever corresponded to his rifles trajectories. I could not convince him that he has no way of confirming his scope is exactly parallel to the bore. Add a mod, in essence a weight on the end and you have added some mils or rads of drop! Every centered scope I've fitted to a rifle (bar one) and t
  14. Nonsense Phil. What they are more likely experiencing is the angle of incidence change between barrel and scope once the mod is removed.
  15. ⁸ Had one for a short while. Too heavy but yes very accurate.
  16. I have done the triggers on two 457's. It's easy and so worth it. I only have one 457 now in hmr. It is very good. The trigger breaks perfectly with near to no conscious effort. I like the strength of the striker on the 457's I do not like how the crown is finished however it does shoot, except for 20g bullets....so far. I've swapped the 22lr 457 for a 455 in hmr. There was two in the shop. I had a sneaky feel of their triggers. One seemed to have some creep and the other not so I put my name to that one! To be honest, it was nice to be handling the older action
  17. Ever tried them on barley. See them eating it in the field....
  18. Any one hearing fox's yauping yet? Heard my first last night.
  19. You'll be on springwatch soon giving packham a hug ?
  20. Got a message of another chicken killer so I popped up the unit. Nothing! I did also take the muffpower with me to visit another local farm for a rat. I took some experimental reloads. 15, 13 and 12 grains of green dot powder and 3/4oz of shot. I used 15g first and it just about killed a big rat.I didn't shoot they other reloads. I'm going to try 16 and 16.5 grains next. I returned to the chicken units. Nothing so went home only to hear my first barking fox! Probably on its way to the chickens! I need to visit about 10pm next time.
