  1. Theres a lot of critters going to have a better spring now but keep looking all the same.
  2. Stalking early spring rabbits with a muzzle loader in cold wind and sun is the best! The first one was shot at about 25yds and the second was 5yds!
  3. She seemed to be in season still. She was heavy but it may of been the bait I left. Most of the bait was gone! It started to rain again as I left the place.
  4. I can't confirm they are vegan friendly! So no go.
  5. Nipped out to check how my guests were enjoying the banquet of pigeons I left them today. As I turned the car into the farm drive I was met with a fox staring at me 100 yards away. I eased out the vehicle, got my gear and slowly moved in. With the NV I observed something amazing. It turns out one fox was up wind of two rabbits trying to push the rabbits to another fox down wind of them! Never seen it before and frankly I was very impressed. Oh yeah, I got on with the shot and as soon as the lamp struck the fox it was glued to my light, the prospect of it running at any moment so
  6. I got up early to go out. Let the mut out but when she came back in wet I made a brew n got back in bed... it'll keep. How much was that laser thingie stav?
  7. Good man. The larks and meadow pipets will sing for you.
  8. I went crow bashing last night. There is a roost at the far end of a patch of mine. It's a good march for a pot bellied human after work to get there in time, besides, the dog needed a good walk. Did ok, 10 down, most likely recycled by badgers and fox. These crows are local birds and my good friend and his sheep appreciate it. It's a practice I do every spring to try and limit the damage from pecking eyes out of the sheep when they are in labour or stuck on their backs. It's called animal husbandry. I was thinking of VIP vegans the other day, I wonder if they have ever been dri
  9. 38-40 and 44-40 are good. It's a shame about black powder being outlawed. They won't let me hunt with a m/l rifle here, only smoothbore! Strange rules! Can you guys use bows?
  10. I appreciate your comments and fully understand that 308 is more useful than most realise. Also 6.5! Years ago now I sold many rabbit per annum. I had orders to fill most weeks in winter. Even in foul weather I had to go at night. In bad weather I used my 308 and fmj and a reduced charge of fast powder for around 1100 FPS. I loaded the bullets backwards to. It was better in the wind than the 22. At the time I had a source of cheap bullets and plenty of powder around. Here is a photo of a rabbit load in 357 with reversed bullet.
  11. They are good foxes mate. 19lb is very good.
  12. What do you take the beaver with, a 22? Also. Does the meat taste of wood? ?
  13. In all honesty I'm wondering why I bothered with NV. What's this laser thingie you'll jibbering about?
  14. That's brilliant and I read how it's done in Sweden years ago. I understand they can spook very easily. Is it correct some use a very light bullet for this? Possibly aluminium?
  15. Brown, karki or green only towel wise. If I was to design a range of underpants for men they would be brown but with a yellow strip at the front for contrast. I would use a fabric that resists the absorbstion of water based solids and fluids rich in ammonia.
  16. I never mentioned 1000' (feet)! Re the 30-06 and 10,000' shot vertical that equates to 3333yds. Standard ball ammo for 30-06 is 155gn. So a bullet 6x the weight only went 3000yds plus straight up! My money is still on 17Rem making a 1000yds straight up! Also the 17 does not have less drag, if anything it has more drag! It's ballistic coefficient is way down compared to the .30-06. The calculus of a coefficient considers many factors. A standard ball round for a 30-06 (155gn spitzer boat tail) is actually "slippier' through air than a 25gn 17hp flat base! Irrespective of velocity
  17. I'd use a hmr barrel to stir the pot, that and use it as a tire lever. May as well get something useful out of hmr!
