Like been said just keep going out and running them threw the holes that look used and at first they won't spend much time below but just run in and then out making you think nothing at home but they will be lucky at some point and bump into a coney sooner or later and it will bolt or ferret will stay with it and once it clicks they will go deeper to find , I remember thinking my first ferret was no good as same happened to me but she became great worker .a dog is a great help when ferreting but like anything it takes time to learn and that goes for you and your team . When I worked my old whippety x I'd always have a rug in me back pack along with a towel ,quick dry down if wet and rug him up and I've just carried on doing same with the youngster but only use a rug if it starts to chuck it down or temps drop to low .

Back in the days before mixy, coney was eaten by most house holds and back then you couldn't buy chicken unless you went to a farm or butchers to buy one so rabbit was used and most couldn't afford a chicken anyway and those who was harvesting coney not only earned a living from contoling them and the meat but also the pelts and bones ,me great grandad was a general dealer in Leicestershire and me mum said she remembers barrels of rabbit bones that was sold to glue factory and bales of pelts that went to the tanners ,nothing was wasted back then unlike today, once mixy hit no one ate rabbit

I remember collecting fire wood with me dad and brothers near Melton mulberry in late 70s and rabbits just sitting by rd side and us kids picking them up and me dad putting them out there misery, horrible disease and yet again man made .leave nature alone and it will sort itself out like it always as done .

Me uncul tells me story's about rabbiting before mixy hit ,he was young lad and out most days nights feeding his siblings and mam ,big family of 9 needed lot of vitals so it fell on him to poach .he said he set long nets up and a drag line and push stuff into nets and take 30 /40 coney and kaneys that run instead of flying, me mother said it wasn't unusual to wake up and jump down from vardo to find dozens of coney and kaneys hanging ready to go butchers as he sold what they didn't eat and he done this for few Yr just after the war ,he's 90 something now and he great dog man back in his day ,h
