The Unintended Keeper ( Diary of a keeping blagger )
Stavross replied to Stavross's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
There’d be no need, I’d of given them to you if you asked nicely I get invited all over shotgun shooting and I very rarely go, even when I get invited game shooting I’ll normally turn it down but offer to go beating for them, I’ve been invited down to Lincolnshire quite a few times where they shoot 400/500 in a day and I always say no, yet I’ll travel all the way down there to shoot a fox ( lol ) I do really enjoy an hour on the roost or around the farm yard on the blacks, but the rest does nothing for me, it’s odd because I can sit out for hours with a rifle and not get bored -

Any shotgun shooting bores me after an hour, my mate Mosh absolutely loves it all, I’ve been in a pigeon hide with him where they have been coming in from every direction and after a couple of hours I’ve put my headphones in and had a little sleep while he carries on -

I only shoot them where they are a problem this time of year, mainly at the sheep farm, I like summer evenings, July/August when the crops have just come off There’s load’s around here, I don’t mind an hour on the roost, I had a lad ring me yesterday asking if I would go up to some of his fields, I said I couldn’t think of anything worse and to buy himself a banger, I used to pass all my pigeon shooting on but just tell them no now because of too many people messing me about -
A bit of a bolognaise type thing from last night

Just heading out now for last light and then off for a call, I could get used to this, not working now my feet are better I’ve got a new lease of life -
Oh no, you can’t have your cake floating around the bowl ??

Couldn’t manage my chocolate cake after my pie last night, so gave it a go just now, a bit too bitter on it’s own, but lovely with some custard

I sort of agree with that, 12k will still get you a 14 plate Bobby basic Hilux with under 100,000 on the clock, even the invincible 3.0 doesn’t come with a lot of kit for the extra money and the 2.5 is a quality motor

I’ve never had much to do with the navara, my mate used to buy the snapped ones because they were an easy repair, the chassis rails would corrode and crack at the back of the cab, I also know they completely changed them in late 2014 and the 2.3 engine is far better than the old 2.5,

The l200 has always had rear spring problems, the engine are generally spot on, I’ve seen a few with head gasket failures but not many the thing to look for with the Dmax is that it’s got good service history, they need regular oil change, I bought one not long ago where the oil pump had failed because of not being serviced properly and it snapped the crank, I’ve seen another 2 that have done the same, I’d also stay away from an auto, starting to see a few with box problems

Value for money L200 lot of truck for the money and reliable Isuzu D max way over priced but you will never kill it, Hilux

Chicken and leek pie, mash and carrots I’ve also made a salted, chocolate and vanilla cake, first time for that, so we’ll see how that turns out I’d make someone a lovely wife

Rich people, the gun shop I use supplies the grouse moor with bismuth, he must rub his hands together when the season starts get out there, I’m just about to head up to the sheep farm, bollock’s to the rain -

I said that to the lad in the shop, if it worked out at 5 quid a round the likes of you and me would still pay it because we can and it’s what we love to do, but for some it’s pricing them out, I know an old boy who loves his shotgun shooting, he lives in a private rental ( because the council don’t give a sh*t about housing the likes of him) and is really struggling with the way everything has gone up, when I seen him a week or so ago he said he hadn’t been out on the pigeons because it was a toss up between electric or cartridges, I went home and got everything I had left over from last seas -

He said that at the end of last year the average was an increase of about £27 on a 1000 and he thinks it will be at least the same again, he said the stuff I put through my.243 could get up to 2 quid a round, he was having a rant saying it was just a back handed way of getting people to buy lead free -

No, I think I’ve missed 1 this year with the NV on the.243 but it will break my heart if I miss now with the cost of ammo, the lad in the shop said they are expecting a big jump in shotgun cartridges -

Out and zeroed the .223 and .243 today after clearing and swapping the scopes, the.243 was just 4 clicks up which I had expected as I marked everything before I removed it, the NV was an absolute mile out but it’s 1 shot zero works a treat, with a bit of luck I won’t miss now because I went to the gun shop on the way home, got 20 for the .243 and 40 for the.223 and got very little change from 90 quid -
This is at Hurworth ( Darlington) there was no snow when I left at 4 but I went over to Northallerton and there was a light covering there the house is owned by two retired GP’s who bought it 30 years ago and have done nothing to it in that time, it’s not far from derelict, it used to be more than 1 property but was changed to one big house in the early 1900’s, it’s got 9 acres of garden and you can see it would of been well kept when they bought it, you could easily chuck half a million quid at it and it still wouldn’t be finished, it’s shocking inside, but it seems they are now doing al

Was meant to be off this week but when someone shows me the queen’s head I can very rarely say no, but sometimes I wish I had,2 walls taken down and 1500 Victorian bricks cleared to be reused

I found the day image on the alpex was slightly better than the C50 and I couldn’t see any difference at night, what I also like about the alpex is the dusk mode is automatic where as you have to switch between them on the C50, saying that I’ve used them both and I wouldn’t have a problem owning either of them -

I’ve been a bit put off them from a couple of people, a lad I know works for a company where he gets to review loads of NV and thermal from all the major manufacturers and he got one to test and slated it, so much so they wouldn’t print his review and someone else I know bought one and had nothing but bother with it, they wanted him to send it to them for repair but couldn’t tell him when he would get it back, in the end where he got it from gave him a refund and he bought a C50 that he’s had no problem with, but when you read the reviews on them people seem to love them -
Just ya basic chicken dinner today, she said the roasties were a bit crispy but that’s how I like them, homemade chicken gravy, none of that bisto sh*te

What I read this morning was the guardian reported it was a 6 episode series and they pulled the 6th, the bbc say is a 5 episode series and the other is a separate film made with the RSPB and WWF, so that will be a film blaming everyone else apart from themselves for the state of nature in this land

Yeah, if I’m just out for the fun of it I still don’t think you can beat the lamp the weather looks crap from the next week, bloody typical when I’m off most of the week, well my rifles are plastic and I’m sure I won’t melt
