  1. Potting room screed finished, the customer came out to pay me and said they only had cash, would that be ok, I suppose so ( lol ) then on my way home I past the lad I helped out yesterday and he waved me down, said there wasn’t as much lead as he thought and went to give me 20 quid as well as the scrap, which I refused, took the lead and a little bit of copper, put it in on the way home and got 72 quid for it, not a bad way to finish the week off
  2. Greenhouse floor done, just got to do the potting room tomorrow, seen some lads working on a shed on my way home that were struggling to change a flat tyre on their van, so stopped to give them a hand, when I’d got them away one of them said he didn’t have any cash on him, so I said it’s ok I didn’t stop to get paid, he then said they have got 150kg of lead flashing if I want to pick it up tomorrow, bonus, it pays to be nice
  3. That could have been nasty, has the leg gone through a drain ?
  4. Screeding a floor today with my builder mate now that the bespoke oak greenhouse has been put up, I can’t see 60k of greenhouse here
  5. It was Lowcock’s Lemonade around here, in the early to mid 80’s me and my brother would stay at my nannas on a Saturday and we could have a bottle off the pop man as a treat, she would also get us a copy of Viz on a Sunday morning ( my mam didn’t think Viz was appropriate for an 8 year old, but nanna didn’t mind)
  6. I’m going to have to go and get a new digging spade tomorrow, so I’ll pick up a fork as well and give it a go
  7. Nightmare today, another lad put the main power ducting in at the school on Saturday, he rang me and said the sparks can’t get the cable through and he can’t go, so would I go. Got there, tried to put the cobra through from both ends and it got stuck in two different places, paving back up and he’d crushed the pipe when backfilling, repaired and cable in, then they said they need another data cable in across the gate, so I did that as well, I wonder who’s paying me for this and to top it off I snapped my best spade
  8. Been a ruff week, 4 of these have helped
  9. For her, homemade chicken Kiev rapped in Serrano ham with panko breadcrumbs, new spuds and tender stem ( I don’t know how she eats something that dry ) for me saag chicken ( I forgot to put the chilli powder in and I think it’s better for it)
  10. Thought I was on a good price at 100 quid an hour, turned out to be 25 quid an hour, I’m sure I’ll make it up on my next job for them, we live and learn
  11. Couple of ductings at two sets of gates at a school today, thought it would only take me a couple of hours, so told him £200, 8 hours later I’m done, it was concrete under the tarmac ( bugger )
  12. Shed down and floors pulled up, clear the site on Monday then my mate can come and peg out on Tuesday for the foundations
  13. I’m not really a random worker, I’ve known him for over 35 years, we used to do a bit together when we were younger and when we were in our 20’s he followed one path and I chose another
  14. He’s shown me something today that blew my mind, no wonder they are doing a 200k barn conversion, got to get rid of your money somewhere, I think I’m going to have to up my hourly rate on this job ( lol )
  15. On a demolition job today, once it’s cleared we’ll put the founds in for the new shed/ accommodation, I’ve met his two live in gardens today, two Vietnamese that don’t speak a word of English, make of that what you will ( lol )
  16. Well, as long as he’s happy
  17. I did some work a while ago for a bloke and he offered me some of his weed as a tip, which I turned down, anyway I was back today and the drill was the same, so I put a smile on the father-in-law’s face this time, strawberry cheesecake apparently, father-in-law said it’s lovely, mother-in-law is enjoying the peace and quiet
  18. Just me to feed tonight so I went for chicken and chorizo pasta
  19. Two sets of field gates today at my mates to stop the “ do as you likey’s “ driving across his field in pursuit of game, they’ll have to do what the rest of us do and get off their arses and climb the gate
  20. If you have some mesh or rebar put it in but if they are only a smalll step you’d be ok without it, if you were doing big steps or high traffic I’d definitely put lengths of rebar along the bottom, full length of the steps
  21. Have a look for a Belle 150, there’s loads of second hand ones for sale for between £100 and £200, you can fill them unlike the cheap ones
  22. Farmer was so happy with my fencing last week he had me back to do a bit more, then it was a mink hunt, no joy with the shotgun but hopefully the traps will sort it
  23. A good thing to use is old scaffolding boards or old roof joists, I’ve just watched that video back and he puts his stakes on the inside of the step, don’t do that, put them on the outside, I probably couldn’t have put a worse video up of how not to do concrete steps another quick tip is once your concrete is in your forms tap the side of the timber with a hammer, it will give you a smooth finish once you remove the timber
