Take it steady fella ?
-
Ha ha, that couldn’t look anymore photo shopped if they tried, my nephew could do a better job with his scissors and prit stick ?
-
All the best for the op, I would recommend a small bell as you take it easy during your recovery don’t lift a finger until you feel ready to, also large amounts of tea and Christmas treats will help your speedy recovery your a brave man to be out in this, I’m at a place called Bowes Moor now and it’s wild, even the sheep are hid behind a wall and these are proper hard northern sheep?
-
Nice work, it’s the time to be at them now all the ewes are been taken in ready for lambing, I’ll be out on the farm over Christmas hoping to take a few ?
-
It’s not always easy to creep up on them mice ?

If you have your own permission that is suitable for a HMR and you are granted your variation, I would be surprised if your ticket came back with conditions on it, the only one I could see it having is the same as Walshie’s stating what the rifle can be used for, if you have permission on other land you will know if it’s safe to use the HMR on or the land owner will tell you if they are happy for you to do so, I have a lot of land I have permission to shoot on but I could never put it on my list of permission’s or use it for a variation, so it’s left to me to decide what is safe to use there
-
That’s an open ticket, if you have the land suitable for the HMR you will put this down on your variation you will get a visit from your FEO tell them about your land and that you also get invited to shoot other peoples land so a restricted ticket would be a bit of an inconvenience, I’ve never had any problems getting anything up here all they want to know is the size of the land and an understanding of safe back stops, I’ve got a mate in Lincolnshire and they have a few problems with it been so flat down there so with the centre fires you need a lot of land
-
Both of mine are zeroed at about 100 yards, as it’s a flat flying round I’ve found that anything you are shooting at between 50 and 150 yards just put the cross hairs on it and pull the trigger, as for ammo the most common and easy to get hold of are honrnady v max 17 grain, I’ve also used Winchester varmint hv 17 grain, I’ve not noticed any difference between anything I’ve put through them

Don’t get me wrong mate I’ve got nothing against commercial shoots, it’s a business and if they are sustainable and you have the money to do it then why not, we have a commercial shoot near us and it starts with the grouse in August and goes onto the partridge and pheasant, they were well know for very big days with teams of guns coming from America and Dubai, shooting the arse out of it but it’s these people that bring the money ( everybody wants to be a loader for them because the tips are mental) now that estate was sold last year for 12 million and the chap who has bought it wants to go fo

It was certainly a cold one up this way, the weather said snow by 3pm and for once they were on the money, just in time to rap in and head to the pub for a warm in front of the fire
-
Cheers mate, I’d agree with you that the smaller private syndicate are better because it’s about the day unlike some of the commercials I’ve been on where it’s just about how much lead they can put in the air, It’s the people that make the day not the shooting ?

Another fantastic day on the shoot, had a mate of mine shooting with us today from Lincolnshire ( Robin foxer off YouTube) and it was definitely worth his 3 hour drive to get here both him and his mate Richard had some lovely birds over them, very different ground to what they are used to down there way on the flat lands, 58 picked and maybe another 6 or so not found, beating teams done me proud today managing to lift the birds in ones and twos to give a steady flow, longshanx is proving to be a valuable member of the line ( cheers mate), no decent pics this time because for some reason my pho

Another cracking day out, some how this time of year seems right for a walk out with a front stuffer, it all seems to fit in so well with your surroundings ?
-
You had better get your best walking boots on, I’m going to work you like a spaniel ?
-
The kids that come are a rare breed these days, all free range, there’s not one that would swap a day in the woods for a day in front of the Xbox, it’s nice that they just love being there theres a range of age’s from my little beating mate Hugo who is 4 to and old boy that comes a couple of times a year who is 73, it’s not often that you find something that all age’s can enjoy together ?
-
Cheers U, it’s a lovely place to be, especially in the winter, we are back there on Saturday and expecting snow so with any look we will have a covering, game shooting as it should be done ?

A few more pics from the shoot

A little walk out around longshanx’s perm, still a good few hoppers about, it started to get a bit foggy when we got there, the first one was about 60/70 yards away so I chucked one of the 42 grain Winnie’s at it, there was the tell tail thud and then for some reason it ran towards us and dropped 10 yards in front of us, so a bit of a bonus not having to go tramping across the field to pick it up, now the fog was dropping in thick so in the motor and off down the road to another field to see if we could manage to get longshanx a shot off, by this time the fog was getting thick and we were star

I’ve used both, I’m currently using 42’s because that’s what was in the shop, to me they group the same as the 40’s through the cz, they may hit a little harder, but then again the 40’s hit hard enough for rabbits, to be honest I’ve not noticed any different they still kill the little hoppers just the same

One less Jay. More chance for the game birds.

We have loads of them little beggars on the shoot, the kids love having a go at them because a fishing lad will give them a few quid for them, I think it’s for the feathers for his fly’s ? -
Nice work, them 42g Winnie’s are what I feed the little cz and they hit hard and group very well ?
-
So no luck getting on this new bit, I spoken to the land owner and his land is a syndicate shoot, a nice bloke who said he would have a word with the lad who runs the syndicate but don’t hold my breath because in his words they pay him to much for the privilege, so had a trip out to some duck ponds last night where I can only take geese and manage a mixed bag of Canada’s and lag as they flighted in just before dark

I’m thinking it must be something like that around here, with the numbers that are here the shooting must be let, the land owner would make more from the shooting than the crop, I’m going to have a trip to the local pub after the weekend to see if I can find out who he is, it’s got to be worth a try ?
