  1. She looks a big old bitch, do you think she has some age to her ?
  2. I really don’t like loosing things that I’ve shot but it does happen quite often especially with pheasants, it seems if they make the hedge back or a bit of ruff they some how disappear
  3. I’ve never owned one or shot one, I would of thought it will be a good little work horse and for the money I’d take a punt on one, I seen one for sale at the shooting show new for £220,
  4. A good frost will knock that back and the pigeons will come ?
  5. Sounds like a cartridge fault to me, if you put a load of another brand through and if you don’t have a problem you will know what it is, I had a bad batch of victory 36g once only had 100 but about 20 didn’t fire
  6. They are starting to flock up here, still mostly in the trees but I’ve been working up the farm today and there’s a few dropping from the trees into the edges of the rape a couple of good hard frosts to flatten it down and they will be on it
  7. Can anyone recommend a decent pigeon magnet, preferably one that will take decoys but also has the frames to take shot birds ?
  8. Two crackers you got yourself there, nice work?
  9. You can feed wheat to ducks just don’t put it in the water, if they don’t clear it up quickly it rots and the chemicals it gives off are harmful to ducks, a mate of mine breeds duck and he uses dry feeders that over winter has a mix of wheat, oats and barley, the problem with this is you feed everything else and they bring pests in
  10. He loves coming out for the day with us, I could of done with borrowing them ear defenders when we were walking around, he never stops talking, a proper little lad and he can come on them days with me anytime ?
  11. Glad you enjoyed it, it’s a bit different to tramping across muddy fields with me chasing them ginger terrorists, it makes it a good day when everyone gets a bit of shooting and get a long enjoying the day together
  12. I lad, a grand day for a walk out in’t fields it was nice to be out for an hour on my own, middle of nowhere just enjoying being there, watching a couple of roe doe’s thinking how one of them could be the family Boxing Day dinner
  13. In that case I’ll have to wait until I manage to get myself a few pigeons, I went out today to bait up for a fox and see if I could get a couple but not a pigeon to be seen, did see a few pheasants, partridge and teal but been Sunday I let them be, never pulled the trigger but when your surroundings are like this sometimes that doesn’t matter ?
  14. I like the sound of that, I think I’ll give that a go with my stock pile of pheasant ?
  15. Mmmm wood pigeon, I’m thinking pigeon breast, cream mash and red cabbage, that’s it I’m on the pigeon hunt tomorrow, nice work U,
  16. Second day on the shoot and a good day was had by all, 47 pheasants and 3 woodies, still some low flyers so you have to pick your birds, took longshanx for his first go at driven game and he bagged himself a brace so smiles all round
  17. Are you shooting through the wife’s best scatter cushions there, you will be in bother ?
  18. From what I’ve read they say that it carries both genes and the male gene becomes more dominant as the bird reaches sexual maturity giving it its cock feathers, I haven’t read anything that says that the birds are hermaphrodite but that would make a lot of sense, the other thing that puzzles me is if it can go from hen to cock ( in looks ) why doesn’t it work the other way round as well
  19. Very sad, RIP, I loved watching him on a Sunday evening with my dear old dad, I don’t think I’ll sell my Wilson Avon quiver rod now, might even give it a run out on the Tees
  20. So I’ve got a couple of hen pheasants on the shoot that are starting to get cock feathering, we have had this in a few birds in the past, I was wondering what makes this change happen so I’ve had a little read up on it but have not found a lot of information on the subject, as far as I can work out it’s a product of intensive breading and the hen birds that were checked after this were found to have abnormalities in there reproductive organs, I would be interested to know if any of you have come across this or know a bit more about it ?
  21. Well done. Keep baiting it mate, more will come, you can change the foxes pattern by baiting it, once they learn where there is food you will be there first port of call, so no daft o’clock foxing freezing your bits off at two in the morning ?
  22. If you are feeling guilty I’ll go up for you if you want me to, I’ll jump on his toes for more rabbit shooting?
  23. I was up that way about a week or so ago, there was hundreds in a field near the dam going across it like a forensic team, I’m might have to have a knock see if they require my assistance ?
