  1. A little walk out around longshanx’s perm, still a good few hoppers about, it started to get a bit foggy when we got there, the first one was about 60/70 yards away so I chucked one of the 42 grain Winnie’s at it, there was the tell tail thud and then for some reason it ran towards us and dropped 10 yards in front of us, so a bit of a bonus not having to go tramping across the field to pick it up, now the fog was dropping in thick so in the motor and off down the road to another field to see if we could manage to get longshanx a shot off, by this time the fog was getting thick and we were star
  2. I’ve used both, I’m currently using 42’s because that’s what was in the shop, to me they group the same as the 40’s through the cz, they may hit a little harder, but then again the 40’s hit hard enough for rabbits, to be honest I’ve not noticed any different they still kill the little hoppers just the same
  3. We have loads of them little beggars on the shoot, the kids love having a go at them because a fishing lad will give them a few quid for them, I think it’s for the feathers for his fly’s ?
  4. Nice work, them 42g Winnie’s are what I feed the little cz and they hit hard and group very well ?
  5. So no luck getting on this new bit, I spoken to the land owner and his land is a syndicate shoot, a nice bloke who said he would have a word with the lad who runs the syndicate but don’t hold my breath because in his words they pay him to much for the privilege, so had a trip out to some duck ponds last night where I can only take geese and manage a mixed bag of Canada’s and lag as they flighted in just before dark
  6. I’m thinking it must be something like that around here, with the numbers that are here the shooting must be let, the land owner would make more from the shooting than the crop, I’m going to have a trip to the local pub after the weekend to see if I can find out who he is, it’s got to be worth a try ?
  7. Wow, that’s proper smart ?
  8. That’s sounds like a cracking evening, 4 down before you got to where you were going, you now have a reason to go back out to where you were heading and you were home at a sensible hour, I hope you told the missus that you called it a night early to spend some time with her ?
  9. There’s a lot of duck on here, problem is 90% of it is owned by a chemical company or is the RSPB’s wetland park and I don’t think they will let me on there, if I can find the lad who farms the back fields there’s a bit of water on them that hold a few, so fingers crossed I can find him ?
  10. I’ve been told that the grass fields are owned by a chemical company so I would of thought there’s no chance of getting on there, but a farmer in the area grazes cows on there in the summer and I think he owns the wheat fields, so I need to find him, the numbers are a lot bigger than the last couple of years, the Canada’s have always been there this time of year but the lag seem to be here in very good numbers now
  11. This weeks mission is to find out who owns these fields, they are 5 minuets drive from my house and over the last few days I’ve passed them a few times and the amount of Canada’s on the grass and the winter wheat field next to it is nuts, I passed it not long ago and there was easily 1500 on it a mix of Canada’s and lag, its about a mile from the mouth of the river Tees and backs onto a RSPB reserve, I don’t want to wipe them out but would be more than happy to pay the land owner for a couple of days on there
  12. If it was the choice of one I’d keep the .22, you can shoot 100 yards with a sub, further with hv, ?
  13. I’ve shot rabbits with mine well over 150 yards, on windy days I stay under 100 if the winds strong I don’t bother, I had a round get stuck in one of mine but we put that down to a faulty round rather than a dirty barrel, ( they seem to have sorted the split neck fault now ) saying that it is a mucky little round, you will definitely need a mod, the muzzle crack is quite loud and as gav said they do 20’s but I’ve only ever used 17’s, if I was given the choice between owning a .22lr or the 17hmr I would go for the lr, if I could have both I would, I hope some of this helps your mate come to the
  14. I don’t do nowhere near enough and it happens to me quite often, I was shooting over rape a week or so ago and if my mate wasn’t there with his dog I wouldn’t of found anything, even if you have marked where it fell you still end up walking over them
  15. She looks a big old bitch, do you think she has some age to her ?
  16. I really don’t like loosing things that I’ve shot but it does happen quite often especially with pheasants, it seems if they make the hedge back or a bit of ruff they some how disappear
  17. I’ve never owned one or shot one, I would of thought it will be a good little work horse and for the money I’d take a punt on one, I seen one for sale at the shooting show new for £220,
  18. A good frost will knock that back and the pigeons will come ?
  19. Sounds like a cartridge fault to me, if you put a load of another brand through and if you don’t have a problem you will know what it is, I had a bad batch of victory 36g once only had 100 but about 20 didn’t fire
  20. They are starting to flock up here, still mostly in the trees but I’ve been working up the farm today and there’s a few dropping from the trees into the edges of the rape a couple of good hard frosts to flatten it down and they will be on it
  21. Can anyone recommend a decent pigeon magnet, preferably one that will take decoys but also has the frames to take shot birds ?
  22. Two crackers you got yourself there, nice work?
  23. You can feed wheat to ducks just don’t put it in the water, if they don’t clear it up quickly it rots and the chemicals it gives off are harmful to ducks, a mate of mine breeds duck and he uses dry feeders that over winter has a mix of wheat, oats and barley, the problem with this is you feed everything else and they bring pests in
