  1. I used to moan about it every day but I guess that’s because I did it for so long, my last job was 7 years at IVECO I was paid more than anyone else in the garage because all they could get was car mechanics and needed someone who knew about trucks, before that I was gaffer at a tanker/road haulage company where I specialised in chemical tankers ( that was a good job, before they were bought out) if you are thinking about it, I’d look at the HGV side, it pays a lot better than a car mechanic, a few of my mates still do it and they are all on 40+ a year and cars are to small, you can’t hit them
  2. It’s been a cracking afternoon and you’ve certainly made the best of it ?
  3. I was more pushed than jumped, I was a HGV mechanic for 25 years and always worked 4 on 4 off so worked with my mate doing all sorts of groundwork on my days off ( drainage, foundations, patios, horse arena’s, anything outside) when the virus came they furloughed everyone apart from 4 of us and put us 4 on 5 days a week and knocked 10 hours pay off us, the buggers at home were being paid more than me, so I told the gaffer to fu*k off and started doing this full time, it’s been a bit up and down but I’m lucky, my missus is an accountant and has a really good job, my old gaffer has rang me 4 tim
  4. Job finished, sanded and brushed ( by hand ?10m by 30m ) the bloke doesn’t like it, I think he was expecting a five a side football pitch, not fake grass, his missus and the kids love it so seen as that’s all that counts fu*k him, I think it looks really good
  5. That looks lovely, I’m doing that this weekend ?
  6. Speaking to my mate, he said a ruff guess 180 for feed wheat, but could go a few quid ether way, he said the harvest was really good, they weren’t expecting it at the beginning of summer seen as we had no spring, but since then it’s been perfect growing conditions
  7. They are an absolute shower of sh*t, the lad rang me last night to ask me how I got on, he got a proper blasting and then said thanks for going up, like he was my boss and I’d done him a favour ive been told 180 a ton for wheat, but we’ll see, we don’t pay for it until February
  8. It’s Louis Lamb and if you have take it form that little girl for your own pleasure you are a bad man ?
  9. Back up feeding this afternoon and I’m about to lose my sh*t, the last two feed days another member has been to feed, ( this is a pain in the arse for me, but it’s a syndicate, so if they want to help I can’t stop them ) after they have been they have rang me to tell me what they have done and what I’ve asked them to do, clearly lied ? to me, not a scrap of feed in any of the feeders, the birds are all over the place looking for food, I could hear the birds banging the springs on the empty feeders, ( 14 bags of feed I used in and around 2 pens, I normally use no more than 8 every 2 days ) they
  10. Fake grass all down, glued and screwed, brush up and sand in the morning as long as it’s not raining, turns out the bloke doesn’t like it, he wanted more of a playing surface ( well he should of got the Astro turf people in ) but his wife loves it and says it’s not just about the little boy, it’s ideal for the little girl to play on as well and as we know the only opinion that matters in a house is the wife’s
  11. 11 grand of fake grass to finish it off, it’s the biggest area I’ve done, it will be finished tomorrow, all this for his kids to kick a football around on
  12. Not to bad for someone who spent 25 years as a HGV mechanic and fancied a change
  13. A lad me and my mate do a lot of academy school work for asked us to have a look at his back garden that other so called landscapers had had a go at, he said they give up when they couldn’t sort the drainage problem by digging down, no idea why they didn’t put land drain in and come up, that’s what we did
  14. Up to the shoot tonight and as we only had a couple of hours we just focused on one area ( the piggeries) it wasn’t long before we spotted 2 a long way off, a few different calls from pheasant distress to vixen in heat, but nothing, after 15 minutes or so they both disappeared through the hedge and I assume across the road, 15 minutes later another put in an appearance, again a long way off, as we kept an eye on it another came for the caravan field into our field, walked along the top of the hedge ( a good 400+ yards away) before going through the other side, caller on full volume pheasant di
  15. It must of been ok because the missus didn’t complain about anything and got me to make her chicken and mushroom soup with the left over sauce
  16. Chicken and leek pie, new spuds cooked in a butter emulsion, tender stem broccoli and a white wine, cream and chicken stock sauce, ?
  17. Much of it comes down to what type of shooting you want to be involved in, are you interested in target/range shooting, pest control, rabbits, foxes and the likes ( even though fox shooting has become its own sport now, it’s still pest control to me ), deer stalking or a mix of them all, if you are interested in joining a club then you will start off with.22LR using club rifles gaining knowledge, skills and safe practice of handling a firearm, over a period of time being a member of a club and proving you are the right sort of person to possess a firearm you will be granted a FAC allowing you
  18. I don’t mean to put you down and don’t take this the wrong way as I know we all have to start somewhere but if you are thinking of applying for FAC you really need to gather as much information and preferably experience with firearms as you can before you apply, it’s not as straight forward as filling out a form for what you think you want and away you go, 90% of firearms departments will not grant centrefire on first application, most people start with rimfire, even with rimfire you must have suitable land and a genuine reason for possessing that firearm, if you don’t have land to shoot on or
  19. Out at the sheep farm for a couple of hours tonight, on my own so I decided to go with the mouth call, when I got there the wind was coming in a direction I’d never seen before up there ( it’s always windy up there ) so I set myself up in the middle of a hedge back expecting if a fox was to make an appearance it would come from the top of the field in the direction of the wind, setting away with the mouth caller it was 20 minutes or so before a fox came through the hedge no more than 15 meters down wind of me, I clocked it through the thermal as it turned and looked at me, before running diago
  20. Birds are still looking good, we never got the amount of rain that they said we were getting so what we did get didn’t really bother them, they need to be out the pens now so all the pop holes are open and the wire has been lifted, they will be going on a bit of wheat after the weekend, I dread to think what that stuff is per ton this year, I didn’t dare ask on another note I’m in the good books with her indoors, she decided she needed to buy a small shed for her 2 pet rabbits ( I know, she’s 35 ya know ?) and I got volunteered to kit it out, even though she knows I hate doing stuff like
  21. The m18 is just a cheaper version of the m12, the components are slightly inferior to the m12, this in not to say it won’t kill things, there’s very few rifles out there that are not up to the job ( maybe HOWA ) it all comes down to what you want it for, like SL my rifles are a tool to do a job and I use tikka, 1 because they are nice to shoot once you have found a round that suits it ( very accurate) and 2 because they have market share over here, so if you have any problem with it a good RFD will have no problem sorting it quickly for you ( saying that, I’ve never had a problem with a tikka
  22. You can get what are called quick detach scope mounts that are meant to hold zero, I’ve never used them and if I’d changed a scope I’d always want to check zero before taking a shot at an animal
  23. I’ve got one of these on my tikka T3x lite in .243, it’s an unbelievable scope for the money, I paid less than this for it, it’s purely a day scope because of the coatings on the glass it won’t take an NV ad-on
  24. He filmed a bit of it, but most of the time he was spotting, calling or we were chatting sh*t, I know he’s got a geese shooting video to do first you are not far off there Dave, I had a few dodgy shots, I couldn’t get away with shooting off the frame on the back of the Land Rover it’s just pure jealousy Derv, I’ve had it all my life, whether it be because of my devilish good looks, shining personality or my willingness to help the less fortunate than myself ( I.e. Ben ?) I don’t understand why people can’t just be nice
