    Hake fish cakes covered in panko bread crumbs, new spuds and a tomato and red onion salad with a Cesar dressing, first time I’ve made fish cakes and I don’t think it will be the last, very nice they were ?

    There’s a few of them have turned up around the shoot recently, you would see them around Harrogate and York but they are definitely spreading, we have buzzards around me now and I live in a town, as you know

    I said I’d take the 22 next time I go up and the .17 for the lad, I can only go with him, he’s made sure he’s got it boxed off so he has to be there ( can’t blame him for that ) I said I’d get the ammo for the .17 but he will have to pay for it, which he’s fine with, nice to have somewhere to go over the summer when most of my land is in crop and where there’s some really good numbers ?

    Hugo’s dad has just rang me, said the keeper is over the moon with what we shot last night and we can have all the rabbit shooting on the estate, woohoo ?? I better see if I can get hold of some .17 ammo now ?

    Not the best start to the day, the lad who went to move my mates 360 managed to screw it round and pull a track off ( along with pulling up the freshly rolled road planings) so mechanics hat back on, not the easiest thing to get back on when the runner wheel ram hadn’t seen grease in an age

    Last nights outing was unbelievable little Hugo’s dad is good mates with an under keeper on a very big grouse moor, he rang me and asked if I’d like to go and shoot some rabbits up there, I sad yes because it’s somewhere different for a walk out, he said bring the 2 .17hmr’s and the .223 and we’ll have a look for a fox as well, all the way up there he said nobody shoots rabbits up here, they don’t have time, there’s loads, I thought, if I shoot a dozen it’s ok, just nice to be out somewhere different.     Friday nights outing was a trip to a farm for some pest control on 2 strips of freshly drilled game cover, now as I was going to have a look for a buck I took the .243 with me, no pictures of the pest control because the .243 just turns them into dish cloth’s, it was a lovely evening to be out, warm and bright, after clearing some crop munchers off the cover I went for a walk looking for a buck, I spotted a deer at a good distance and stalked into it. That turned out to be a doe with a kid, no more than a couple of days old, first I’ve seen this year and lovely to spend a few minutes watching,

    I got a phone call from little Hugo’s dad earlier asking if we could get out for a bit, not wanting to be out late I said we’d go and chuck a few rounds at the fox target, so we headed for the back garden of the bloke who has the helicopter. Setting the fox target at 134 yards ( full length of the back garden) we spent an hour chucking a few at it, letting the rifle cool after a few shots, it’s safe to say there’s no challenge in shooting the .243 at that distance, hitting the target every time apart from once, even Hugo’s dad didn’t fail to kill it every time, shame he can’t do it when it’s a

    When it’s free I like a venison curry ( usually the loins ?) if I was paying for it I wouldn’t put a chilli anywhere near it ?

    Another roast beef dinner today, I’m going to have to try and get her to eat something other than beef or chicken, still nice, but I wouldn’t mind pork or venison now and then

    So just as the light was fading I could see a small ginger walking across the field towards the the cat food, although I was starting to lose the light I could still see it clear as day through the wraith on day/colour mode, when it reached the area I wanted it in with a good backstop I put the single red dot on it, it stopped and then moved further up the field, luckily it stopped again side on giving me enough time to get the red dot just above the left leg and down it went. By the size of it I was convinced it was a vixen so waited it out to see if there was a follower, giving it 40 minutes
