I understand what you're saying about the lurchers and most beagles here get ran over by cars but I don't consider them game for it.I have seen cur dogs disemboweled and continue doing their job. They knew they were going to die.I never use the term deadgame but it sure doesn't apply to alive dogs. -

Mr Hatch I might be misunderstanding you if so I'm sorry.I seen a coon hound run a coon until he died with his tail wagging.I have seen catahoulas and curs take their death trying to bay up a rough hog after a few miles.I don't know what this is called but I admire it more than anything. When I saw it for the first time as a kid I knew I would always have hunting dogs.It made me cry then it will make me cry again. -
This is a spotted gar This is a longnose gar We don't have gator gar in my area.I have seen them in saltwater in gulf of Mexico.Looks like he made a long journey ?

Thanks Mr Glyn I was hoping you would respond as I value your opinion.i believe they are predominantly terrier bred with a small dash of English bull called the Henry dogs that Tudor added. In the pictures of the early 1900's there was already a uniform look from the Irish dogs Colby received.I did not know where they were before that but descriptions of Nuttalls grandfather's terriers sound very familiar? Is this coincidence. -

My personal opinion is that a small ugly terrier stepped off Noah's ark and started kicking ass and they been doing it ever since. There has been different shepherds but the same flock.I can't prove this.In my opinion they defy evolution. -

There has been good working men involved in these dogs here but usually there lines died with the owner. Some of these men had it in their will to put down the dogs. In Dixie they traded the shore for a boar in a corral and called them catch competition which became illegal here in the 21st century. We also played wild boar poker at these events.4 men sitting at a card table inside the corral with a big boar. The last man in his seat wins.I have never won. -

The type of working terrier of which I spoke has always been kept mostly by Gangsters, pimps and pugilist. These people generally had more disposable income.Follow the black market money and you will follow the history of apbt.Sad but true as they have always attracted the underworld of society. -

Tried for beaver but got a muskrat today. It is a tight fit in a muskrat tube. This bitch finished her first season today. She has had roughly 20 digs to coon possum beaver and now muskrat.I try to end a terriers first season with them feeling like King of the world.Next season she will be properly tested on otter. -
Not trying to hijack this thread but I was offered access to a Park stud.I have read the other threads on here trying to gather info. The ones I have access to look like ugly red borders. As mine are black bateared and ugly theirselves the pups would need to be fed with a slingshot.Have y'all used these terriers for outcross. What did it add? This particular stud seems to have a knack for dispatching. Is this a trait in his line or is this stud a one off?

It's springtime in Dixie. That means coons are up in the den trees so I go for beaver.I checked 2 sets caught one from each set.Bolted 10 more but you only catch one from each set generally. There was 7 here got one Next set had 5 caught one -

I apologise for starting this hornet's nest.According to records there was a million Irish immigrants to North America in the years leading up to The Great Famine. Most of these were young men in their 20's who came alone. The information I have found generally portrays their terriers in very similar appearance to bull Russell's. -

Mr Aussie I don't know how y'all pig hunt there.Where I live we use baydogs such as jagdterrier, plotthound or cur. When hog is bayed up we lead a catchdog to the hog and release. This catchdog must take one bite on the ear.If he takes a second bite he didn't get to stay.We generally leg a hog or sometimes used a knife.I have seen most types of catchdog. Most I wouldn't feed. When your asking a 30-40 lb catchdog to hold a 250 lb boar and protect you I hope the catchdog is a step too ultimate as I know men who have died playing this game. Here is a picture of one of those type.He was rel -

It's usually added in America because some British terrierman said they look like whippets. Do some research first off in the west they was still getting scalped by Indians then they ate the dogs, When you research as far back as you can it will mostly be in New England.Which is the Eastern coast.Boston area has alot of info.Which coincidentally has the highest Irish population. -

American pitbull was a byproduct of the Great Famine in Ireland. They brought them here to America. Not trying to argue just wanted to state the fact. -

Thanks y'all for the advice. There is some spots inside there that a grown man could fit so the terrier could have easily been spinning around.I drove a wrecking bar down and had a listen.I heard a bark or two but nothing else.Fox has left so I probably will not be back there for a year.It was a definite blow to my confidence in these electronics.Headed back to the swamps today. Doing some pest control.14 lb bitch was entered here. there was fresh fox shit where she's standing.after an hour of running laps inside she began to settle. At this point the Redbox started jumping everywhere.I have not had this to happen in similar situations. There is no metal in there.I spent another hour crawling around trying to figure it out as box was fluctuating over a 5 foot range.8-13ft.The directional arrow lights were flashing everywhere no matter where I moved. they began to move and box started working right once they got away from this area. They were getting close the side so I l -

Tyla I did not get the quarry. This set has 14 exits.3 of which was underwater as the creek was a foot higher than it should of been.Since creeks are rising I'm headed to do pest control in a woodpile today.Luckily it's even colder and this place has no cottonmouths.Mr Barrie thank you for your comments. You have given an accurate description of dog hunters here. Some of these friendly chats over breakfast have helped me with my chosen quarry.I also receive points of interest from upset fishermen. -

It snowed in Dixie this morning.Thats about as rare as a hermaphrodite Bigfoot.I got my work done midmorning and was headed digging about the time the snow changed to rain.I loaded up a small bitch.I walked a few miles down river bank to the mouth of a creek where I have consistently encountered otter. This set runs parallel with creek roughly 400 ft.In order to track terrier I stand in the middle of set.I was waiting for terrier to settle. As I was standing there just enjoying nature I felt something under my foot.I screamed and jumped when I looked down. 2
