Terrier work in the USA - Photos and Stories.
Rickshaw swami replied to SheepChaser's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Beaver are vegetarian prey animals. They will always try to bolt.I do have a few sets where they won't bolt.I have seen two different first season bitches get drug across the river.I have never had a terrier to drown while hunting. If you read the old otter hunting books you will notice most terriers died from the hounds.I think it just depends on what your accustomed to as when I watch y'all's ratting videos Im a nervous wreck watching the dogs around moving heavy machinery.Beaver build the sets then otter and coon move in with them.So if I can locate beaver then I will find other quarry also.C -

I received a call from a farmer who's got trouble with beaver flooding his cotton field. He asked me to take a look. Its a small swamp but I took a few pictures.Theres a terrier in this first picture. This 6 foot black racer snake(nonpoisonous)wrapped around my leg so I killed him.Normally I wouldn't kill one of these as they eat smaller poisonous snakes. But when a 6 foot snake is wrapped around your leg it's hard to think clearly. Only found two sets but a coon bolted from one. A few clips of beaver behavior. When a beaver bolts into shallow water he will -
I didn't read many of the modern day terrier books.I was more interested in the older terrier books such as Lucas book, diary of an otter hunter,Otters and otter hunting. Several years ago I received a phone call that an elderly British author and terrier man was visiting 4 hour drive from my house. This man was telling glorious tales of the otterchase.Me being the Confederate gentleman I am I jumped in my pickup truck and drove 4 hours to shake this man's hand and invite him on a trip in my boat.Upon meeting this man he informed me that otter was too much for a terrier and basically proceeded t

The first five seasons are the best in my opinion.I have two new episodes recorded right now so they are still making new ones.

Thanks y'all Hope not to bore. We received 5 inches of snow last night. So we headed back to the swamps this morning. The snow left an interesting story. As soon as I released the terrier he got a small possum really shallow lol. We pushed on through the swamp to a local latrine. There was fresh sign everywhere. I looked across the creek and saw something that made me smile. The terrier entered and mixed it up for a few minutes.20 yards away a large otter bolted. He ran through a briar thicket and onto a frozen mud flat.Suddenly he vanished.Th -

A friend took a few pictures of my last two outings. It was good to have some company for a change. Had one to bolt and seek refuge in this log pile. Yesterday we had an ice storm in Dixie.Temps at daylight were 8 ° or -13 Celsius. We don't get much weather this cold so we took advantage. Our effort was rewarded. -

He's never showed an interest even though he sees them daily. In my opinion there's a big difference between a "beagle" and a rabbit dog. Most good rabbit dogs in my area look like beagle Chihuahua crosses or beagle basset hound crosses.? I have seen several American KC beagles from different sources and didn't like any of them.I seen good KC coonhounds, hogdogs, even seen a good KC Russell once.I have never seen a decent hunting American KC beagle.Ive hunted with around 40 different ones from 5 sources.Just my opinion though.

I know nothing of Plummer terriers.I do know about American KC beagles. When my wife and daughters wanted an inside pet that's what I got them as I knew it would be no trouble and I knew he wouldn't bother the rabbits in my front yard.? His call name is worthless.
