  1. rebel you know yer stuff in fairness,I do know the man your on about, spent a few years with him....another famous road bowler was the late Dennis Scully,a neighbour and decent man,Its not as easy as it looks believe me,and any prize money is hard earned, I reckon the rule book would be a fascinating read i cant work out in my head what they would involve.....what happens when a ball go,s off the road/lane......thats where the line is drawn and thrown from again i presume ? A nice ten miler on the M25 would suit me better Gnasher, The basics of the game or score as it is cal
  2. Gnasher, All they need is a couple of miles of tarmac, the queens highways are probably as good a place as any to play, haha. I didn't get a chance to read this yet, but it looks to be a good article, you might know some of the places mentioned? http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/another-country-another-ball-game-near-ford-motors-in-dagenham-an-irish-match-of-which-jack-charlton-knows-nothing-except-the-passion-report-by-cal-mccrystal-1422603.html
  3. This is a very popular sport in Cork and Armagh and in other smaller areas around Ireland. I believe the Irish used to play it in Dagenham on a Sunday morning long ago. As Jigsaw said, there's skill involved in the game. You have to be strong, accurate, cute and have the stuff to throw good bowls, with the pressure of someone betting on you to win. Some of the big scores would have thousands on the stake and lads also betting on the road. My father was involved in bowling all his life, playing, administrator and referee and spent his Sunday mornings and summer evenings bowling. He got
  4. I would agree individually would be best. I found that there doesn't seem to be the same demand as there was for these types of books. Good luck with the sale.
  5. The battery is sold and I'm looking for €100 for the lamp if anyone is interested. Thanks,
  6. Cracking pups in great nick. What's way are they bred?
  7. This may have been up before? It's good to see some logical and rational thinking being applied for a change. http://metro.co.uk/2015/05/19/its-time-to-bring-back-hunting-with-dogs-5205233/
  8. A savage for the cabbage - a hungry f****r He could peel an orange in his pocket - mean f****r You'd want eyes in your pole/back of your head Get up that road in front of me - this would have been followed by your mother grabbing you by the upper arm and a smack across the back of your bare thighs f**k all to do, and all day to do it - lazy f****r A neck like a jockeys bollix - no shame/not a bit shy Like a baby's arm - well endowed She's as wide as Cork Harbour/Patrick's street - been around She wouldn't piss on the best part of you - if you saw a bird that you
  9. Not sure yet, will wait until about ten weeks, there is a fine big black dog on the litter. The rest are going to hunting partners so they wont be far away. Decisions, decisions, you'd nearly have to keep the dog the only one in the litter?
  10. Cracking looking pups, they are in great condition. The bitch did a great job rearing them. What two are you keeping, it must have been hard to pick just the two. Best of luck with them.
  11. That's a bargain for that book. I think people sadly don't appear to be interested in books anymore?
  12. Thanks, does the dog work the same way. They sound like there bred the right way good luck with them
  13. I remember that case well, fair play to those two men, only for them it would have been a very different story.
  14. Best of luck with the pups, hopefully they will do what they were bred for. The mother looks a fine bitch, what way are the pups bred? Thanks
  15. And theres the second greatest player ive ever seen live.......sometimes when West Ham didnt have a game as a younger man i would sneak into the Clock End at Highbury pretending to be an away fan just to watch Liam Brady,i didnt give a monkeys who won or lost i would just watch him,not in a hero worship kind of way just for the sheer ability of the man..........then when he came to West Ham well it was birthdays and xmas all at once .......for those old enough to remember him,can you imagine Brady in todays game with these bowling green pitches and carpet slippers for boots ! That's some
  16. What the Irish pundits had to say, this must have been reading this post, haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ekl6fx130zI
  17. The victor writes the history and obviously write it to favour their side of the story. History can often be just one sides records of events, as has been said above. I think there are many examples of this. Just look at the media coverage of any event, whose side of the story do we get and do we always get both sides if the story?
  18. Thanks that's great, exactly the type of advice I was looking for. I wouldn't be the most mechanically minded, but this is a big help. Thanks
  19. Thanks, these are the kind of issues that I was enquiring about and also to know what problems I should be looking out for and any checks that I could do to identify any problems. I don't want to be buying someone else's dirt. Thanks
  20. Thanks, but what exactly should I be looking for? Thanks
