  1. Zeroing a .22 rimmy at 200 yards and setting those cracking snares, tell him to get on THL- he would go a treat here!

    starter bird

The harris, but before anyone even thinks about getting one they should do loads of reading and get out and about with someone who has a bird to see what its all about-there are too many buy one who havent a clue then realise this isnt for them. Emma fords art and practice is a great starter book.
  3. Im using them mate and think they are shit hot. I dont use many at all so am ok about paying top dollar for 223 bullets, if i used more i would find a cheaper round though.
  4. Ive been thinking about your post all day (sad bast*rd arent I)!, but i think you might be on to something there spar. Your lucky if you have a plethora of game to such an extent that you can stay in the same fields all day hawking, but , like you say if there is such a lot, then it might have negative repercussions. I know what you are on about, though i had it more with gosses than HH's, but a few times we would in chase, then if it failed the gos would see something and would be off again- not to your extent but i didnt have such game numbers. Im going to ponder this for a while now, chee
  5. Cheers netter, that makes sense
  6. Im planning to get a couple of chickens for the back garden. I used to keep them on an allotment so it was a bit of a tip but now i want some in the garden i will need to make it all look smart and tarty. Ive got wood and mesh to make one, can anyone send me pics of their own little set-ups or give me some links- i dont know whether to make an ark or a box type with run.Pros and cons of either would help. If i cant make it smart i will buy one. Any tips at all would be greatly appreciated, like i said i used to keep them on an allotment but that was years ago.
  7. LMFAO. Excellent- bet he felt a right plonker when the boys in blue knocked at his door!
  8. Mines! feck me, serious solution for a serious problem!

Youve got the wrong end of the stick mate, we play jokes on each other all the time. We all do it, not just me, and try to out-do each other.

    Prank

I like to play pranks on workmates, and for a while now ive been cutting out the gay phone line ad's that are in the back of newspapers and slipping them into my mates workbag , where he argues blind with his wife its a set-up! Went one better today and when he nipped out for a bite to eat and left his mobile i phoned a premium gay chatline on it! It will be a scream when he gets his monthly bill in and his lass see's it! he will need to do some explaining. Anyone else done anything funny lately?
  11. The thing is there could well be a living off the land type forum somewhere else with some bloke saying he was just tending to his geese when a huge b.o.p swooped down and attacked them so he attacked it etc etc. If i was in his shoes i would have done exactly the same to be totally honest, but it doesnt make you feel any better! Glad she is ok now, but it must have been quite an experience for her. Hope there was no permanent harm done.

Youve named the options mate, the only other option is to not bother. If you know your stuff, and youve got a good bonded pair then naturally i guess would be my choice, if not then AI but i have never tried breeding any bird personally, just what ive read and people ive talked to. Its dodgy ground to generalise and say you dont know the first thing if you AI, its probably just a case of not being sure both birds are compatible etc
  13. Ive helped plenty and am willing to help more. Im available to phone, will go to others and once i know them , they are ok to come to mine. Only doubts i have on this thread is will there be people offering services who dont know enough but want to "big up" their reputation. I know a few starters who fly a harris for a season and think they are the new frank beebe.
  14. Agree with spar on that, its best to get them going, but i wouldnt think the breeder will give you her at 10 weeks mate to be honest. No breeder worth his salt will let a HH go to a newbie at 10 weeks, she WILL imprint and you will want rid within a year.
  15. Yes blackberries. Bit late for sweet chestnut and woodnuts too but you never know.
  16. Nice looking bird mate. I dont bother with leg bells bud, tail bell is ample sufficient imo.
  17. Gosses at ten weeks mate, yes, but a Harris, no way. If he picks it up at 10 weeks then i would put money that it will be a screamer, i had one like i said, at 13weeks i think and it was a massive pain. 15 weeks minimum for me, but we are all different. Plus, he will have problems tethering it down. If he gets it mid december and, lets say it takes him 4 weeks to fly it free( i dont know his history/skills ), it will need to be tethered when the heavy frosts of dec/jan hit. If the lad wants it he will get it and no-one will stop him but a 10 week harris in december has problems written all
  18. 15 weeks for me. 10 weeks is way to early for me, hell of a chance she will imprint slightly imo and you really dont want a screamer, unless you dont have neighbours of course. I had a screamer and i had to make a cup of tea for frontshift in the dark! the second the light in the kitchen came on she would start- not good mate!
  19. 10 weeks is too early for me personally. Another con is tethering it down in the aviary whilst training as they are dodgy with frosts.
  20. If your looking at getting one in around three years then you are going about it the right way. read books, ask questions-no matter how daft, you wont get called for asking before getting a bird. trappa
  21. This time of year there are brambles (obv!), sloes, hawthorn leaves you can eat. You are at the late end of mushrooming but there might be a few about-watch out for oyster mushrooms, they are an all year treat!
  22. Is it possible to own a ready trained bird and have it respond to you? Yes, you can buy one that has been trained already, but if you do it yourself you can guarantee that you do it right! Do many of you whom own BOPs work shifts which get in the way of time with the bird, and if so how do you compensate? if you work shifts think long and hard before getting one. You can do it, you need to integrate high jumps into her daily routine before/after work to keep/get her fit. Roughly how many hours are the minimum that can be spent weekly with a bird without it suffering? You get out wha
  23. can anyone give me a link to the forum please?
