    A Few Pics

Thanks, its bin some hard graft making sure the bigger birds don't get to the smaller ones lol. The gos and the gyr x have now gone and the harris hawks, kestrel and spars will be going over to northern Ireland with us in October. We have another kestrel coming for ourselves in the next few days and who knows what else lies around the corner. ATB martin

    A Quick Question

I always use plectrums that I make myself, havnt got any pics but will get gaz to take sum when he comes over at the weekend. Always put a bell on the tail at least and sometimes leg aswell, the reason for this is we fly where there is a lot of cover and a lot of streams, if the birds hits a water hen or duck in the stream you cant hear the leg bell ring under water but if it is shallow enough you can still hear a tail bell. 7. I was taught the old way, I make all my own equipment and do any work needed myself, coping, imping, ringing the lot. I shall spend the next 12 months teaching gaz the main parts that he needs to know, then as certain situation arse such as coping and impng them I shall teach them. The biggest thing with this sport is you never stop learning. ATB martin
  8. It happens to all of us I got nailed in the face gong in to ring the 2 young harris hawks I pulled out yesterday. She left the nest and went behind me as I turned to see where she had gone she hit me straight in the side of the face, then ran up and down my arm stamping as I tried to hide my face lol. ATB martin
  9. glad you enjoyed it mate, the only way is forward now. your timing couldn't have been better, with these 2 young birds to train you will see exactly what goes into one to get the end product. ATB martin
  10. yes we do target deer with the eagles, they make a few trips a year over to Europe for deer, we have taken a few muntjac over here with them and a lot of fox. Next sat is coming round mate, this sat is even closer if you have nothing on, my plans have changed. drop me a text if your free, you can help me kit these young birds out lol. ATB martin
  11. We far from struggle with hare numbers, they were thin in some places but bouncing in others. We have thousands of acres to fly on so we don't visit the same place twice in a month or so that way they don't get shy of the bells or anything like that. the 4 yr old male did 114 kills on his own 101 of which were hares. the young female didn't do anything which is common in a young eagle, and the older female had 42 kills 19 of which were hares, she is mainly used for bigger game. 12. There is actually 3 different bird there, the close up on my fist is a first year female flying at 10lb 4oz, and the others are of a 7 year old female who flys best at 9lb 14oz and there is a 4yr old male who flys at 7lb 8 oz. This year we have taken on a male just over a year old and he is responding well to lure work at 6lb 14oz so will be a good bit over 7lb come winter. ATB martin
  13. That's it for now until I get my laptop fixed.
