  1. Erm because I'm not fast enough to catch them at my age.
  2. Hi interested in Deer stalking in Devon and Cornwall, would consider syndicate place or odd stalks if anyone has a space to fill. Own rifle, DSC1 BASC insurance. I have plenty of Roe shooting would be interested in Red or Fallow. I've been shooting most of my life, safe shot.
  3. I thought you'd seen a blind deer and a blind fox. Nice work though, heater or not still warmer than sat on a plank up a tree.
  4. Sika tines aren't angled as far out as in Red more upright as in yours, hybrids can follow either parent apparently. We have plenty of Red down here and a few Sika but I've not seen a hybrid ( maybe I haven't recognised it
  5. I think where people coming from is they don't want to be represented by the CA, its done nothing for us at all by large, nor do they want to join an organisation that isnt in their line of hunting, the old ways don't work, the CA will not do anything for lurcher men no matter how many join, we all know that their priorities don't lay along the same path as ours, yea they would pay us lip service too get our coin but they haven't and wont do anything, well except cut us adrift once they got said money, they have made no real attempt too make us want to join either, they big organisations and I
  6. Sorry about the three times quote, dunno what I did there.
  7. Oh but it does matter, what's the point in bunging the CA, AWL, LBGT and the rest a tenner a year to do nothing for you? Im a member of BASC because I shoot and I get the insurance with it. Other than that it's run by people from a different class, may as well be a different planet. They look out for deer stalking, pheasant shooting (which luckily covers the common rough shooter under the same umberella) but the rest of us oiks are looked down upon and always have been. How many of us Lurcher and Terriermen marched on London back in the day? I reckon it was fifty fifty with the poshuns yet as
  8. Only one place to park or walk in miles over the moors, they aren't the sort to trash the van, more loud Guardian reading Liberals. Be brave person to take my van on anyway. There's a lot of people moaning about shooting down here now and loads of anti shooters buying small holdings, we had a complaint last year about legal shooting, we were quoted straight from the LACS "how to complain about shooting" page, wankers. I went and saw them, showed them my licence, permissions and politely told them the fact they didn't like hunting had no bearing on what I did on land they dont own. These sorts
  9. If I were looking for an all round dog this x wouldn't be it, match it up with a bigger faster dog and maybe a terrier and you'd have a great bushing pack. Not everybody needs a pair of fen dogs, we don't all live in the fens. Good works bheys.
  10. Like this That looks just the job, Ad. All you'll need then is to blast out a bit of Flight Of The Valkyries and get few Hueys to fly over head dropping napalm. The foxes won't know what hit them! Hueys! How about a fleet of drones all geared up with IR and NV all controlled via a large screen tv, you could shoot a whole farm in minutes, get one of those road sweeper attachments on the front to clear the haul.
  11. Thanks for the warm welcome, good site this.
  12. Thanks for sharing that, shows it can happen to the best of us. After walking thousands of miles on Dartmoor (girly hills really) I've only ever properly shat myself once after the snow came down UN forecast, I was on the NW edge of the moor and walking up top, snow came down in massive chunks, total whiteout. I knew exactly where I was but thought to be safe I would walk down to river and follow a brook from that back to van. I was convinced I'd missed the river even though it would have been impossible for me to do so as long as I walked downhill. The snow made it feel like I had walked much
  13. I've bitten the bullet so to speak and booked up for the dsc1, pro's it's only 10 minutes up the road from me, cons, £290 and four days when I could have been stalking. My main objection is that the police are just blanketing these conditions without making it a legal requirement if that makes sense? I have a mate of mine who has had an open FAC granted for centrefire after doing the dsc1 and shooting UN mentored for about six months. I've held SG, rim fire and previously centrefire since 1981 yet I have to jump through the hoops.
  14. The food hygiene angle is a fair one but why don't they break the dsc1 down into units, gun safety, markmanship, carcasse preparation and inspection and food hygiene? I'd happily do the food hygiene but should be able to just get assessed for the first three. I don't mind showing I'm able to do the job I just feel I'm being striped.
  15. I can see the future, solar powered ATV, big trailer load of batteries and speakers that would make any RASTA boom box look cheap, you heard it here first.
  16. And I thought 12bores were only suitable for birds......It's amazing what sport can be had in countries where you aren't governed by a class weighted society.
  17. I let my centrefire fac go about ten years ago after having an accident (t wat springs to mind!) I kept SG and rim fire up through all this time but to get my centrefire back I have to do DSC1 and be mentored, my mentor is my BIL who I taught to shoot 30 years ago! I've been shooting centrefire for 30 odd years, shot hundreds of Foxes and dozens of deer yet it seems the DSC1 and mentor hoops are here to stay. I know an assessor who I've stalked with and he told me to just do the assessment.
  18. I'll sort you out with a dozen purse nets if you like, some home made hemp and a few nylon, pay postage and their yours mate.
  19. How much are these calls Bud? May have to stop being a Luddite and get one. I keep a flock of laying Hens which have all been shut in since Crimbo due to the avian flu warning, Id usually find foxes close to home but they are all in the woods at present, they know when their beat.
  20. Was only talking to a mate about the mange recently, all our foxes down here are fat as butter and in a1 nick, haven't seen any mange in 3years. Pretty sure it's the mild winters when we get a big freeze the foxes usually develop mange not long after, guess they are going deep to ground where the mange lives. It's bad news in a dog, I speak from experience if a dogs even been near a mangy fox get a dose of pour on double quick.
  21. Just back from a trip up Dartmoor, called some cover which always holds foxes, zilch, moved down to next piece made one call and a Vixen sat bolt upright five yards away! Winchester sub in the nut and weeks tally up to four. I usually call for Fox then mooch around for Rabbits, very few about and it's usually crawling with them here. Head shot one and it was crawling with fleas, obviously had the myxy which explains the lack of Foxes. Walking back I heard some coughs/barks and looked up to see six red does and yearlings watching me from 150yards away on the Moor. Cracking day to be out blue sk
  22. Very true, as a big fan of the Waterloo Cup (great days out) I was well pissed with the countryside alliance, they gave coursing to the antis even though over three days of the last WC there were 15 hares killed in total, I've seen driven Hare shoots in Dorset and Hampshire that kill 500 Hares a day and some kill 1500 over the season, don't hear a dicky bird about the shooting although it upsets me a lot more than the coursing does.
