What I did with my kestrels was make a one rough-sized one and hole punch only one end. Pass the leather around the leg and using the eyelet as a stamp press it into the place you require the second hole to mark it ready to punch hole two. Offer the anklet back to the leg to double check you're happy with the fit and before fitting it to the bird trace around it onto something like a bit of cereal packet to use in the future as a proper template. Another Harris and fly them as a cast Theres redtails or perhaps a goshawk too but you're upping the game somewhat so it's useful if you've a mentor or mate to help you out as neither are as easy as a Harris.. Unless of course you have the time and experience and quarry for a longwing? What did you have in mind? and why do you feel your harris cant cut the mustard for you anymore?

PMSL Graham If I had to change glove each time I picked up a different bird throughout the day i'd never stop faffing about with gloves lol Its my feeding glove anyway so all the birds whatever their species get fed on it Joking aside though the only bird to really hurt me with a bite or a squeeze was a kestrel lol it was an evil little cow and met its end as it crashed into a farm shed... I didnt really feel any sympathy lol

Tony you can do it! We moved 30 birds, 6 dogs and the ferrets from the N.Yorks moors to here last October and it was a real task and a half but we did it. You can do anything you want if you want it badly enough.. good luck and i'll be down for tea eventually lol

They dont usually 'bring things back' :wacko: thats retrievers lol have had a few strange 'kills' though... rear wiper on my car... pegs... a wellie boot.. all dispatched immediately of course!!

Hi David, just curious but why don't you want an 08 bird? Is this your first? yes this is my 1st bird and i have been advised by friends who are falconers to get a bird within this age range which are already trained. david Thats really very unusual David. Theres a big chance you'll buy a lot of problems. Of course not every already trained bird is a bad one but are you experienced enough to spot the difference? Its more usually recommended that you but a bird of the year and grow and learn together and that way you will have an indepth relationship with the animal and know theres

Ive kindly been given some deer antlers as I want to make a couple of whistles. Ive never done this before and assumed i'd be able to find a website with tips and instructions...but I cant find one Can anyone advise me of a site that demonstrates the process or do any of you make your own and would be prepared to share the secrets! If im thinking of the same thing as you they were used mostly for spars & Goshawks. There was a sort of central pointer to allow the leash to travel and apparently it caused less tangling. The ones previous to those were more like a ring perch with a twine spoked effect inner and all were meant to prevent the bird from getting through the middle..
