    LOST GYR/SAKER

Thats a mad story! What luck though! It gives me hope that someone has my fhh and just happens to lose her and she turns up somewhere peculiar and I get her back! Id always thought that stolen birds were at a disadvantage as you simply have no idea which end of the country to begin looking but in your case it seems he was on a major mission!!

  11. On the morning of the 13th of December two Harris hawks were stolen from my weathering lawn in Wakefield. Both these birds are in flying condition and were equiped with a single leg bell each. I believe that the culprits must be part of the falconry community as the Harris hawks that were taken also shared the lawn with two registerable species that were left unmolested. Anyone being offered Harris hawks please be aware of this. The female has a plucked right leg both hawks are greatly missed. (RING NUMBERS CAN BE SUPPLIED TO ANYONE BUT WILL NOT FOR NOW BE PUBLISHED) The female hh is

    Hybrids

Heck im no expert on falcons, I tried to give a fair answer without getting terribly complicated lol You'd have to ask someone much more experienced in falcons than me about hybrid vigour. I guess it must occur in some ways. Theres a heck of a price difference in a Gyr falcon hybrid than a pure Gyr and the potential health issues lessen too. Pere/sakers are ace on landfil in other words theres certain preferred hybrids for various reasons.. horses for courses

    Hybrids

Same reason as lurchers.. bypass nature in an attempt to produce a superbeast. Potentially drawing in the very best aspects of different purebreds.
  14. They've a bad reputation and their price reflects how crap they are.
  15. Its with much sadness that I have to give you the news of the passing of Gentle (Brian). He'll be known mostly to the ferret and falconry sections and was a humerous and great friend to a lot of us. Yesterday he took his own life and im sure you'd like to pass on your thoughts and condolences to his family who have given permission to post these details... RIP Brian, will never forget you xx

    eagle owl

If you want to hunt I wouldnt waste your time with an owl. Indian eagle owls aren't especially good at hunting anything worthwhile and the European eagle owl which you'll have heard of taking foxes aren't that straight forward either. They are quite often very slow to get going and to teach them to hunt can be a lengthy process and they can often be downright difficult. I know a guy who has killed with his EEO but I dont believe im wrong in saying his tally for all the seasons he's had the bird is still in the low single figures. Owls arent as cute as they look.. they make good display birds a
  22. As much as you can in general terms like locks and lights and alarms but I think the most important thing is not to tell people what you keep We have a guard dog patrolling and hes a good as an alert but not immune to being poisoned so sadly its down to being about all the time and not giving anyone an opportunity. It can get very tying as the place is never left unattended. Dont be seen taking the bird from the house to the car to go hunting.. box it first and carry it out. As for whether or not its bad or not to keep them a lot will depend on the area you're in and the lengths you're pre
