  1. My DH and i are often gobsmacked when we see animals at the garden centers.. £70 for a rabbit?? lol luckily for us we dont see any ferrets in the local ones here... but thats just silly money when the countryside is plagued by the little beasties
  2. i agree too.. she doesn't have a kit look to her.. and if she was 15 weeks she wouldn't be coming into season... I'd have a vet check and get her jabbed then speyed if she is in season.. and have a stern talk with that centre for misrespresentation!
  3. She will give him the run around if she isnt quite ready , maybe a few more days i left mine in season 4-5 days before taking her back to the hob.. she's now had a lovely bunch of 10 kits 40 days later. All ten are feeding very well and looking great.
  4. This is the question i get from a lot of US owners who couldn't dream of leaving ferrets outside.. its just too hot ... we're going to have to do a bit of creative problem solving in the future if the weather keeps up as it is...
  5. mine had a phantom pregancy this spring very early.. i guess too early for the hob to do more than bring her outta season. She came directly back into season as well.
  6. hi there.. not to cause a fuss of anything... My ferrets are from good working lines.. and took MORE than their share of ribbons at the shows last year. We attended a show a week from May to September and i dont remember one time coming home with less than 1 first place or best in show. They also work damn well in the winter and we've a freezer full of rabbit to prove it. Working ferrets Can be show ferrets!
  7. obviously most people take the hob out .. cause what if?? But Stubby might be able to give us some clues later in the year when His new group start hunting.. would be interested to see the results but i cant figure out why there might be a difference...
  8. 9 brothers imagine having 9 brothers ick i had two and dont know how i survived lol
  9. i think the hobbles are the Castrated and Hobblets are Vascetomised ? There's a sticky thread at the top of Vasectomised hobs that are available.. perhaps there is one in your area...
  10. we had discussed it only as .. is this possible... after some thinking and talking things over with my DH... we thought about dogs the bitch can get pregnant from different dogs at different times.. but she still has the litter at the same time roughly... so its probably not the same thing... if you are concerned get her to the VET!
  11. If its a space thing.. fair enough ..mom's the boss after all.. but if its an eww... not puttin that thing in my freezer thing... try skinning it and dicing it up.. then lay it out on trays to freeze.. as it gets frozen.. toss it all into a zip lock freezer bag, not only will it be simple enough to pull out just enough for the day It will no longer resemble "that thing" nor take up nearly as much space. True you'll be missin out on the fur and head and stuff for the summer .. but save the liver and kidneys and heart and stuff and you've still got good ferret
  12. Most of the places i lived in the States, had rabbits, but rarely in burrows... maybe thats a reason why not there ? that and the weird idea that if a single ferret gets loose it will create huge feral concentrations that will destroy the ecosystem.. lol yeah right
  13. aww such cutie pies!! cant wait cant wait lol...
  14. i agree ... wait til you KNOW she's ready.. about a week or so and she'll be VERY swelled up.. i left them together for about 3 days until the swelling started to .."deflate" a bit for lack of a better description... we've a week and a half to go .. but she's certainly gotten a belly and teats ... so fingers crossed...
  15. i think he's asking hand reared as in fed by hand from birth instead of with the jill .. ie she wont accept them etc... and therefore would not have the benefit of their mothers experience etc..
  16. Yeap, leave a lil in the right spot and they usually sniff it out.. but do be sure not to leave too much.. funny things ferrets... they wont go there if its too much lol you can also watch them for a bit when you first put them in... if they go elsewhere.. pick up the mess quick and take it and the ferret to the right corner.. let them have a sniff then... it helps them associate it with the right spot Thanks for that advice will give it a try was wondering how to get the to use a litter tray, it's not like they naturally know what the cat litter is for. we found it pretty
  17. the thing to look for in any of these complete dry foods is the protein % ... 35-40% are best also check the ingredients, meat and oils etc should be the top of the list... any vegetable matter rice usually should be further down the list...
  18. lol yeah hard to tell from that mess how many are there SOOO cute! cant wait for mine!

  21. awwwwwwwwwws! so adorable... i get SO broody in spring lol! expecting a litter here in two weeks ish... and cant wait...
  22. I believe in nature being the best way too, and yeah the mum of lots of species seem to just know when something isn't right and either end it .. or like in your case, dispose of it because she just knew .... as to the spread out birthing thing... i was told recently ( admittedly i didn't know the person from Adam so i cant garentee the source) that if you wanted a small litter leave the jill in with the hob for 24 hours, 3 days for a bigger litter etc... IF this is so... could it be possible for different times of gestation? ie.. the first kit was born of the first coupling, the next bun

  24. ! Hiya, great looking pair there, just to point out that He isn't twice her size because he's hoggin the food... Hobs generally are up to twice the size of jills... All the jills i know... would beat up their brothers for a morsel of food so i'm sure she's doin just fine! You'll find her bossin him around left and right soon enough ...
  25. spring fever ? could be just a case of wound up ferrets... or crankiness as the pregnancy moves along...
