Most obvious and easy is soup.... so like leek and potato but using the wild garlic instead of leeks. For me it's generally 'Mon or tues night dinner' when I'll use the last bits of meat off a chicken, the dregs of the gravy, splash of stock (made from the bones boiled with half a carrot half onion half celery stuck, sprig thyme pinch paprika, scant water/ wine to cover. Strain after bout 30 mins). And then add whatever's available. Wild garlic being a particular delicious ingredient. Stir in a bit of cream. S&P. Serve with spuds, pasta or (if you're old fatties like us) courgetti. Yum.

I would also consider (can't stop myself sticking my oar in... sorry) sponsoring the odd class at small local dog shows. Some (lots of?) charities and organisations may not be very 'hunter' friendly so you'd have to circumspect and stalwart enough to accept a few knockbacks. E.g. 'Best Oldie, sponsored by Jess the Working Lurcher'. Or offer to do an obedience display. Lots of people with pet lurchers are desperate for advice and help on training and many have never seen one being calm, off lead, and tuned into its owner. I don't look on the terrier section very often but there was a recent -

Sounds and looks intriguing. Maybe it's like sea buckthorn..... sometimes just like very watery squash, sometimes a great flavour burst. Anyway the ice cubes with mint leaf sound gorgeous.... is borage-a-gogo here atm so I'm toying with actually bothering to get some pretty ice ready in the freezer.

Oh for goodness sake don't be so obtuse. I don't work in PR or Brand Management, but it's not rocket science. Ramp up your positive profile, downplay your negative profile. Of course renaming coursing (lol see what I did there) won't change anything overnight. And maybe instead slow subtle reintroducing the word and its etymology in a positive way would be the way to go. Whatever. But the other day I said to one of my dog walking friends 'I'm thinking about taking him LURE-coursing' and he replied (totally aghast) 'I can't believe you'd do that!!! Ripping up hares?!?!' -

Ah look I don't know anything about anything. I just think that if you want the dog to bring the ball back, you have to figure out a way to get the dog to want to bring the ball back. And just standing there shouting 'bring the f****n ball back' probably isn't it. Anyway, none of my beeswax. -

Just to add... the word 'coursing'... so I don't know about anyone else (obvs not you the hunting fraternity) but I actually had to look this up..... 'hunting with sighthounds.....' (who knew?) Yet 'hare coursing' sits with 'badger baiting' in the 'unsavoury country pursuits of savage types' vocab. You may know what it means but I'd re-brand as 'sighthound hunting' if it was me as the word is toxic, regardless of whether or not it should be. (And I'm not endorsing it either as, while I delight in watching a running dog run with purpose, I'm not desperate to see anything be killed for no -
Said that in a thread a while ago, Can never understand why people don't put their dogs on a lead Big I am clever dicks But even better than dogs on leads, wouldn't it be nice if there were just well adjusted trustworthy dogs off lead. And no other dogs that needed a load of Hannibal lecter bondage to keep them socially acceptable. Too many dogs; too many twats breeding, buying and passing them on. (It's Consumerism Gone Mad!) Poor dogs.

Great song. Sums it up when you're in the dark place. (Not literally, for me, but just that place) Prefer the NIN orig.

On the shark fear thing, I was diving with my dad when I was a girl, going down on a line. Got a nosebleed and my mask filled with blood. He was signalling 'blow your mask out' (couldn't see the red) and I was refusing, terrified to do so. Started to go back up and he grabbed my ankle. Looked up and saw what I was convinced was sharks on the surface. (It was just the bottom of the boat, he was just trying to slow me down). Was so so scared. Only went diving in open water again a couple of times after that.

Seriously you need to approach this from a different angle. We are increasingly living in a world where people eat factory farmed chicken breast and dress their dogs in tutus and yet still consider themselves 'animal lovers' (one of the most sick-making phrases). Before too long, all dogs probably will be legally required to be neutered, muzzled and on lead in public places. (Poor gimp dogs). So the gung-ho among you will carry on and 'f**k the ban' meanwhile the one thing you have in your arsenal that has any PR value will be consigned to the bin. Namely that you (some of you) know dogs -

I know that buddy I run dogs meself and always polite more so when I'm in the wrong places, the lIkes of the AWL never appealed to me simply cos they wanting too keep what we have currently ie limited vermin control with dog, where as say me I hunt other stuff so they not helping me at all and my involvement is not positive for them as I wont stop what I'm doing and they cant help me so why should I hand over money so a few can have a couple of meetings a year covered by everyones £5 and the odd jolly down to London again expenses paid? all to gain what? what you already have and is currentl -

I'm not disagreeing with you re 'rose-tinted view of life' re meat or dead animals. I was born and grew up in the backend of nowhere with a borzoi, a long time ago. I know running dogs run and that the cows in next doors field will be next months dinner. Also am fine with chap up the lane popping into my field and ridding me of the b*****d rabbits that strip my fruit trees of bark. I was just trying to make the point that on here you all get into your 'band of brothers' thing but the reality is, if the public don't understand or recognise what you do or why you do it, then you're not going t -

I know this isn't really any of my business, as I don't hunt (or know what half of you actually do and probably don't want to) but this is what I think..... You're never going to get a change in the law without public support. If you want the public to perceive you differently, do something practical about it yourselves, instead of bleating on about antis all the time. Get rid of the toffs with a smug sense of entitlement (like that twat Tory councillor recently) who ride to hounds, the fuckwits who get their kicks watching their dogs savage other animals, and the yobs with no respect for th -
