Obviously if he found & walked then thats a different story...

When you put him in a second time he found & you dug him fine. And hes performed well up to this....well then no biggee! A thing of nothing. But put it in the back of your head. If it becomes a pattern then it may be an issue...jmo

I know some decent lads packed in the terrier game due to the constant pressure from the wife.....bigger f@ckin idiots! Cant have been that decent!! -
Blair in his book says the hunting Bill was one of the measures he most regretted and admitted not knowing enough about the debate. He says he voted previously for a ban on foxhunting without thinking much about it and had no feel for those for whom it was a way of life. An absolute disgrace that any man could change another mans way of life. Especially if he hasnt done enough research into the enormity of his actions. Hard to belive!

If I remember right Nick Stevens goes into the building of false earths in his book...

Apologies if Ive mistaken your arguement...

...And totally disrespects the great white terriers & their terriermen of the past. Its not which is better, theres great white lines today who have a proud heritage just as there is Great lines of Fells with their proud heritage..FD summed it up well, to write off another breed in another mans yard is fool hardy. Good & bad in all. Ill say no more!

I think you're either ball-hoping or spoiling for an arguement Neil. You know full well there was great working white terriers in Ireland down through the years. I have seen some crackin hunt terriers of this type. Great dogs of the past should be remembered eg. Sam, small Jack, the general, Rex 'the blindman' of Tom O'Reillys line, just to name a few. Just like Im sure ye remember the likes of Smithy, Mick, Monty, Simon etc. & so ye should! Tom's line is still working well today. There was also good white dogs in other counties Wexford, Waterford, Limerick etc. Id hazard a quess in every

It's amazing how any Irish man who was digging years ago you speak too had a small Jack Russell years ago that would have put ANY Fell terrier to shame with it's legendary ability to stay all day on the hardest of Foxes and Badgers. Where are they now ? dead..it was yrs ago..........our dogs run the streets back then nobody was thinking of lines you just bred em when you n yer mates wanted a pup. What I'm saying is if years ago there was brilliant little Jack Russells (in your words better than the black terriers of today) how come the lads who had them don't have any about them now ?

Depending on circumstances (tightness etc), if you think you need some improvement to your kennel of terriers eg. Size. Look to the same line elsewhere & use a suitable terrier. If not available look for same line which contains an outcross. If not available same breed with a tried & trusted heritage. If not available a different breed again with said heritage. And put this back into your line again testing the results. Discard if not a high enough success rate. But putting 1 breed over another over another wouldnt be for me ..JMO.

Am no expert when it comes to lurchers kept a few over the years mostly deerhound & collie crosses. When I was young there was always some Irish terrier lurchers knocking about, never saw 1 work. Dont see many now. Probably speaks volumes but were they any good? If so would your pal not be better off with this cross...throw same attributes as a beddie but with more fire in the belly if he wanted to do a bit of foxing?

Brother/sister Cross- Your Thoughts!
Kaizer Sozĕ replied to Kaizer Sozĕ's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Last year my pal bred 1/2 brother to 1/2 sister from the same sire. We also bred nephew x aunt...the results should be interesting. Before anyone says anything we kept 3 pups the rest were gifted & more or less kept amongst friends. This year one of several options is bro to sister...thanks for everyones input! -
Brother/sister Cross- Your Thoughts!

As I mentioned in my original quote "The terriers in question are from a very good litter & arent that tightly bred" The father of said litter would be, the mother not so much. But this put back into the original stuff has worked out with several crosses.. -

Brother/sister Cross- Your Thoughts!
Kaizer Sozĕ replied to Kaizer Sozĕ's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Its hard to explain without breeding charts & long drawn out explanations....there is no main dog in our breeding program. We have several dogs down off same strain with varying degrees of desired individuals in their breeding. Not that the other side of them is bad...by no means. Its just we're concentrating on a certain pool. Also theres other dogs of same line that have clicked with our pool. Some of which we have bred off. We have obviously also criss crossed some of our own stuff. So loads of options. This litter proved very good. (Repeat crosses have worked in the past - I know this -

We're nowhere near being snookered & have several good options, this being 1 of them. With regards to breeding off that litter again no major issue there either.. -
Brother/sister Cross- Your Thoughts!
Kaizer Sozĕ replied to Kaizer Sozĕ's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Id prefer father x daughter but the sire whos our strain, a very good dog, is unfortunately dead. The plan would then be to fold it back into our line of terrier not outcross. I was asking those that tried this cross does it work well folding it back in or due to its closeness did the next cross have to be further out.. -
How well or not has this worked out for ye? How tightly bred were the siblings in question & how did the next cross from the produce/pups of this mating work out? Due to this cross being so close did you have to go for more of an outcross or could you still keep it relatively tight? The terriers in question are from a very good litter & arent that tightly bred! (The father of them is, the mother not so much)The plan is to then put it all back into our original line again. Have my own thoughts on it but would appreciate hearing some of yours?
