Most hunts conduct their terrierwork in a very professional manner. But likewise most independent terrier lads do too. Unfortunately in all walks of life theres cowboys....few & far between, that give decent lads a bad name.

You started this thread by asking a question, men from Ireland, England & Wales the homelands of the working terrier have given their advice. These are countries steeped in traditions & stockmanship handed down from generations...maybe step back & consider that advice. It sounds to me you've already got your mind made up!

the point is is that your putting too much emphasis on pedigrees.....dont get me wrong we all care & research them to the end, but work comes first & providing theyre working up to std & reproducing then the odd discoloured pup shouldnt matter! Top class dogs are hard to come by & harder to reproduce a genuine bloke who knows his dogs should realise this!

Your missing the whole point, there is no such thing as a pure Patterdale. The whole makeup of every single line of black's has fell, border, bull, Belington and just about anything else that did it's job back in the day yes back in the day, but going back that far it shouldn't pop up TODAY. Like I said before if you had 2 black dogs you were told were pats and bred them.and had white dogs are you gonna go tell everyone you have white pats? I've seen the dogs you post and I highly doubt you would nor bred off it..WOULD YOU CALL THE WHITE PUP THAT CAME FROM YOUR 2 BLACK DOGS A PAT? REALLY WOUL

Imy asking if you had pats that you were told had no other breeds in it and they turned out white or black and tan would you believe the breeder or would you know because of the colors being white or black and tan that there was other blood I it? Or would you tell everyone, HEY GUYS I GOT WHITE PATS FOR SALE! AND THE OTHER HALF OF THE LITTER IS BLACK AND TAN! There in lies your problem IMO genuine terriermen should not be interested in selling dogs. Terriers should be given & got for free amongst genuine lads.. this I agree with. But when it comes to dogs we shouldn't lie about the peds

The difference there is you're buying a pure bred gaurd dog..you're buying into the pure bred thinking & you're paying as such. But say you were buying a renowned strain of mongrel junk yard dog normally black in colour & a litter throws up a white one. Whats the big deal? It stands as much chance of being a good guard as the others. Say you bought your pure bred shepherd & he is pure bred but turns out a crap guard dog wouldnt you & your family be better off with a decent guard dog thats half Mal?

Why should it matter? Working terriers are not pure breds nor should they be....They're bred to work & if you're happy with the consistent std of work your terriers perform and they are reproducing workers of that std. then the man you got them off has done you a good turn. Who cares about different colour pups providing they do the job???

I've bred these dogs for years an still the odd black an tan or chocolate has cropped up. As long as there working I don't care, atb craicI've had my black dogs for over 20 yrs-had blacks,chocolate, bronze,brindle, fawn colour pups but never b&t.I've a pup here now who's dam is brindle and sire is chocolate dog 1/4 bull 3/4 patt.get the odd pup with white star on chest but never ever white feet.makes no odds to me personally what colour they are -but if I had white pups then I'd be pissed off and wanting to know why they lying about the breeding.they must have Russell in them imo.atb dc

Dont know much about mills but I reckon its better for a terriers (& terriermans) state of mind to be exercised in the countryside free to run, hunt & explore than to be taken from an enclosed kennel put on a mill in an enclosed shed or garage. IMO you will have a happier kennel with less kennel fights &/or barking/howling & better all round terriers....(of course a mill is better than nothing)

we dont buy or sell dogs or pups, we give & get free to & from like minded lads. I work old Irish working whites but interested in all aspects of terrier work/breeds/LINES & BREEDING!out of interest what lines is the old Irish whites you keep Tom O'Reillys stuff!

Im talking about blackjacks breeding... out of nigger & eyeball yes. Question is then is this nigger out of smithy or simon the only difference between suggested breeding!!
