  1. No real deadline but like to be on by end of month, would like to go sooner but lockdown has made things a bit awkward, lots of dirty looks when I turned up today, so would rather lockdown ended but will probably do a few nights onboard before then, am also in the process of fitting a new bathroom in the house so no real rush have lots to do ?? plus I,m meant to be having my hernia sewn back in on the 24th ??
  2. Just back been and opened up the boat and moved some clobber and personal effects on board also got the fire going with two eco fans on, lovely jjubbly and when I went in to put a few bits in the engine room I only found a folding Brompton pushbike in a bag all folded away in the corner double sweet ??
  3. Fake news mate he’s still alive and doing ok?
  4. These little vacuum bags are a bit of a godsend, am moving the first load on to the boat today although I have been told I,m not allowed to go to the marina so could get interesting, government advise is I am allowed to move house, marina saying I,m not allowed in as it’s not a residential marina, I,m saying don’t take my money then try taking the piss I,m coming in like it or not, I don’t require a kiss and a cuddle when I get there and as soon as I,m on my boat and sorted I will be heading out of the marina anyway it’s just a base to move onto and sort a few little jobs out while I familiari
  5. The land and game should be for everyone, hares are wild animals and belong to no man, don’t no how things work over there but here it was all a bit snobby anyway, I got shot for coursing a hare on brean down coursing club years ago and when my mate managed to join it years later he was asked to leave after a year as his dog nailed everything and cleaned up all the silver ware, they all stood there cheering and clapping every time the hare escaped, very strange non inclusive group of people that just wanted everything for themselves in my opinion, if you let a few local lads join your coursing
  6. Wait up has someone banned hunting ????
  7. I speak to people that spend around £500 a year on logs, this lot cost around £300 and is all a man needs to keep warm and dry has done for me for years just taking it to my boat for the next couple of years of free heat
  8. Just put a new shaft and a razor edge on my old axe ready for life afloat
  9. Those ones that take the heads clean off of turkeys is what they want, mind you with an estimated 30,000 urban fox’s in the uk I,m surprised they need a society to protect them ?
  10. Deers mate only have roe and munti,s it’s the roe coming out the woods at night to feed, ?
  11. I, know winter proper is a Callander date in December but in the last week have been noticing all the little things like redwings and field fares eating all the berry,s and robins singing through the night saw a flock of egrets on my walk today as well, that to me make it winter anyone else getting it were they are ?
  12. I’ve rebuilt engines axles and wheel hubs at my dining table just couldn’t see that place taking to much of me, to many it’s a dream home but I like practicality in everything I do, if I had ceilings that high I’d get another floor in and rent it to midgets, everything in my life is based on time and money and something like that costs to much of both and returns very little ?
  13. Sorry if I’m becoming annoying, but saw these little beauties this morning and wondered what they are,
  14. Feck me I’d have that place ruined in a week, wouldn’t be able to touch feck all or walk anywhere without leaving a mess, that’s not a home it’s a shrine to look at me
  15. Went over to a wood stove because of the limitations on what you can burn in an open fire, also the fuel they consume and the fact most of the heat goes up the chimney, now I burn everything and anything, two of my favourite things are old decking and scaffolding planks, because they burn quite slowly for manufactured wood last well and people will even pay you to clear them away,, you can also cut them up with a dropsaw and stack it nice and neatly, when I had a new kitchen I got three months heat by smashing the old one up with a sledge hammer and feeding it to the fire, don’t see the point
  16. Can’t believe I’m telling you this and it’s probably completely wrong, ? I was told this by a fireman so took his word for it without cross checking but he said steam is an inert gas, and a column of steam in your chimney will suffocate a fire pretty instantly, I done quite a few when I had an open fire and it seemed to work fine, you will probably end up fitting a small wood stove just because of how hungry an open fire is, plus you can get a fan ??
  17. Had this stove fan for Christmas last year and said I won’t open it until I finally move out onto the boat and here it is with all my other essentials ready to go ??
  18. Probably telling my Nan how to suck eggs, but if your chimney does go up it’s not a big deal just dip a towel in water and hold it over the fire place, the towel will starve the air and the water in it will create steam which will starve the fire of oxygen and put it straight out, what ever you do don’t call the fire brigade, they will stick a hose down the chimney and simply destroy your house with water, or alternatively go down screwfix and get some brush,s I do mine every 6 months because I burn lots of rubbish in it ?
  19. I call them nappy’s, because they are full of shit and always hanging round your arse, it’s probably why I,m ever so slightly unemployable by today’s standards ?
  20. I, m moving onto a boat this week and initially the wood burner will be my only heat source until I fix the central heating, but as it’s bang in the middle of the boat I would imaging after 2 days I won’t need the heating anyway, especially when I have all my fans dispersing heat both ways ?
  21. When we was kids we had to sprinkle it on the pavements when there was snow and ice acted like the salt they use now, also if you burn wood and not coal the ash was good for the garden and allotment for growing the veg, simple days ?
  22. It’s a thermal thing that creates a tiny electric current by sandwiching different metals with different heat retaining property,s or some such simular electrically, there is a lot of debate about if they really work or are a placebo, I have three and really rate them, especially if you can keep them going for a few days ?
  23. Think that was the plan to make way for the Hilary ?
