  1. Should be great, they dont usually follow old scent are as game as they come, and tough as nails, they are quick of the mark, top end speed isn't that fast, so probably suit, will chase and bail anything you train them on
  2. Australian Cattle Dog – aka Healer renowned for their ability to endure heat and run all day, very intelligent with a reasonable nose, normally they will work 30-40 yards in front, until a sent is picked up, which is evident by an increase in speed and off they go, I have had a couple of these crossed with E.B.T, and are a common part of a pig dog team, a scrub finder (Nose dog) the down side is they are back leg biters if you don’t get the mix right (seems to be instinctive)
  3. It will strengthen line traits, they will be fine

  7. Yep U.S.A straight track. We race them here too, simular times.. Pure Whippets have a world standard. haven't seen many greyhounds beat a good whippet over 70 yards thats why we use them, correct me if I'm wrong, a whippet has the fastest acceleration of any dog over 40 yards. Incoming. Grin
  8. Welcome to the world of ferreting, I'm sure you your son and the dogs will love it atb
  9. Dont get them this time of year, I have had a few close calls over the years, but never lost a dog, even had two dogs pull one in half without getting bit (lucky) I have lost a ferret or two, lost one not long ago, we see them all the time but they run rather than fight, only when they are startled ( if dog stands on them) they get a bit aggressive, Usually when seen we move away and call the dogs, another reason you need to train dogs to come WHEN CALLED
  10. I don’t need much of a reason to pack the dogs into the car, and take them out for a run, my brown bitch was acting a little restless and looked like she needed a break from the pups (5 weeks old now and fat as pigs) that was enough for me, into the car we went, and I drove to a spot I use to spotlight awhile ago. Nothing caught, but the dogs had a ball and got a few chasses on top of that I found a few burrows I will ferret over the next couple of days. http://imgur.com/a/d1Uur
  11. That is a fast for a whippet ,if he can maintain that speed for 200 m you could race him and he would win a few. Here are times from the same 200 yard track for the whippets (W) and greyhounds (G) doing less than 12 seconds. I think it was at the Windyglen track in Boswell in 2004. Less than 11 seconds is very rare and I believe 10.8 may well be the North American record (Tutty Sue perhaps). Louanne Horsea (G) 11.09 Haley (G) 11.11 Par (W) 11.14 Slick (G) 11.19 Echo (G) 11.21 AJ (G) 11.27 Blade (G) 11.29 Blue (W) 11.32 Blue (W) 11.34 Cooper (W) 11.34 Cooper (W) 11.36 Spirit (G) 11.36 Chopin
