My son has been over with the Ledbury hunt a couple of times and always had a great time. Are Sabs a big issue with any of the packs you follow? I’ve seen some of the footage of them id find it very hard to come home without a custodial sentence. We can always find meets with no sabs. The packs getting them every day tend to bring it on themselves

tatsblisters 11,418 Posted yesterday at 03:49 Report Share Posted yesterday at 03:49 Day time roe with a decent lurcher and bushing for muntjac to lurchers. As for hunting in a different country would love to have seen hunting the black bear with hounds probably down to watching the Yearling film as a youngster. 1
Greyman 33,878 Posted yesterday at 09:09 Report Share Posted yesterday at 09:09 I’d just like to be able to choose like I was as a youngster and not thought of as odd for doing what every male should be capable of doing simply putting food on the table and I’d love the fur trade to start again as we just took it for granted when young 8
Arry 26,861 Posted yesterday at 10:31 Report Share Posted yesterday at 10:31 For me I think it was the hunting instinct that never goes away. Being able to outwit the target quarry whether it be animal, bird or fish. Probably started by catching birds with a garden sieve a stick and a piece of string out the back window, then letting them go (getting a bollocking from father if found out). Snaring rats or using an old gin that ran along the bottom of the fence at the bottom of the garden where the neighbour keep an aviary of budgies. Or throwing a slice of Mothers Pride like a frisbee on to the house roof and sitting in the old hen house with my BSA Meteor and twating crows and jackdaws. Nobody bothered you back then, could wander around with the airgun. Loved going to the council rubbish tip shooting rats all night sitting on an old tea chest holding the gun and one of them red space beam torches that took the battery's with the two springs on the top. Mother didn't like it though our cloths used to stink of the dump a smoky damp smell. Of course ferreting in the winter when ever I could. Back then it was more about putting food on the table, fish from the river. Go down dig the little harbour rag catch Flounders in the winter Bass and Mullet in the summer. Rabbits for the pot, borrow and few pheasants from the Duke of Somerset at dusk Lol. Think the pheasants borrowing was not just outwitting the game but the adrenaline of outwitting the keepers and the narrow escapes. I also did legal salmon seine fishing evening and holidays, I found that exciting never knowing what was in the net till the last moment. Would borrow the salmon the second week in December up on the small river off the dart with a rabbit wire around their tail. Decoying for pigeons and crows or lamping and calling foxes. It was sometimes subsidising the income thing were tight so skinning foxes selling rabbits and pigeons. Used to love following the hounds, most of all standing on the top of a steep valley hearing the hound singing in the bottom below. I still get out when they are near me or on one of my permissions. I still ferret but I am slowing down, still fish but not so often now, use it will you can lads. That hunting instinct is still inside and you cant get rid of it like a itch that has to be scratched' So happy hunting and hope you enjoy your hunting as much as I did. Cheers Arry 6
dytkos 18,350 Posted yesterday at 11:09 Report Share Posted yesterday at 11:09 Started off with air rifles, then ratting with terriers, then ferreting, then foxing with terriers, then lamping lurchers. Did a few years rough shooting and wildfowling but for me it was all about the dogs. Over the last 30 years it has just been digging with terriers, lurcher work, and following hounds. All about the dogs for me. Cheers, D.

tatsblisters 11,418 Posted yesterday at 13:33 Report Share Posted yesterday at 13:33 Think it's always been about the chase with me be it running dogs and bushing dogs. Done a bit of everything else from ferretting longnetting been on the odd dig with terriers and Done most forms of poaching from dragnetting to roosting and once stood shooting driven pheasants on a beaters day at Carlton towers some years back. Shotgun shooting has never intrested me tbh to get the urge to get Shotgun license. Another close second to dogs is for a few seasons ferretting for lads with HH and Gos hawk's that was good sport.

I've never done falconry . That's one thing I'd like to witness before I pop my clogs.
