I work on sites it’s getting worse as the years go by there was no pay increase on prices since before yee old Covid 19 got a 2% increase last year first pay increase for ages on price it was a joke because the tax increase was more than the price increase I can’t get my head around it because building/houses are one of the most expensive / lucrative possessions people own  the prices of housing is only going up but price workers price ain’t I’ve got a theory what companies are trying to drive the prices down enough to get everyone on a national living wage or a set low wage so that the companies can make more profit and have more control over people

Fair mate, decades since I had anything to do with stuff like that so I genuinely don’t know.

Site work is proper f****d and it’s only getting worse there’s more rules and regulations than there’s even been and the houses are worse than they’ve ever been, just the like the uk as a whole something drastic has to give way it’s a race to the bottom

I wouldn’t have a notion but I do remember back in the late 80s and 90s I drank with some brickies from Derry they all worked in 3 and 1 gangs and seemingly they used to make serious money but they worked hard for it I suppose

Not done site works for years but we used to get screwed over. It’s all well and good having a decent sq meter rate but if you got lots piers, fancy details, etc you do ok on the straight work then lose it on the fancy stuff. Most house these days are timber frame , so you got to work between and under the scaff, total ball ache , brickwork only, we used to struggle to earn on the brickwork but used to make a bit up by getting the internal blocks up rapid but with timber frame that’s finished. Dpc , drip trays, lintels on, soldiers over openings, insulation on blockwork first, beam filling, etc etc all slows you down.

Clients want to buy the materials now aday to on private jobs cause the builders merchants will give them deal of the century, they can get gear cheaper than the builders if they ring about. That brings in its own problems which we don’t have enough time to discuss on here lol
