As a boy …. That’s a long time Ago  mate …. what about now, when I was at primary school there was one black kid and one Indian ,I live 50 m from a school and it’s probably 70/30 white to non white ratio … I was out in the middle of nowhere yesterday and came across a Chinese woman just walking around the fields …. ( we do get millions of Chinese tourists every year , they love bath ….. they’ve even walked into a house I was decorating that was being totally renovated in the royal crescent , and said … toilet where’s the toilet please  !!! …. We had a portaloo out side a house on malborough buildings adjacent to the crescent and there was a line of about 8 Chinese queuing and using it ….

As you know, South and North Shields are port towns on either side of the mouth of the Tyne .

They have allways been a place where sailors of all castes have settled. 
For anyone to say they haven’t seen any immigrants and only one black man in a week stretches credulity to breaking point

Its a bit like saying you went shopping on Newcastles West Road and never saw a Pakistani

Nowadays Sunderland has a thriving Nigerian population and dozens of ethnicities,but I still remember seeing my first negro and realising they existed outside movies
