I know Shields well, I worked for a North Shields company and went to South Shields Marine College, people from South Shields are known as “sand dancers “ because of the huge Yemeni community and have one of the biggest mosques in the country. 
When you’re in North Shields, have a look around Notts Flats or the Meadowell estate and then tell us there isn’t any blacks or immigrants

Tynemouth is the posher part of North Shields. I was brought up about 3-4 mile away on a council estate called Longbenton, , I now live about 8-10 miles west of North Shields. I worked for a North Shields company called Rutherford Brothers on their factory ships. I went to South  Shields Marine College and my brother lives in Wallsend, right next to Shields. 
Ive spent lots of time there and I’ve got pals who are black and half caste living on the Medowell Estate, formally called The Ridges. There is a big immigrant population in the area.

Did you stay in the Tynemouth area or go into North Shields itself ? 
Next time you are up there, go into one of the bars I mentioned and I guarantee you will see blacks and immigrants

There was a nightclub right next to the ferry landing in North Shields called the Jungle, as rough a place as you’ll find , a haunt of the black community and The door man was the old boxer Manny Burgo, a black man , I think you may have just been on the periphery and not right into town

I find it hard to believe that in a week in any town or city you don’t see more than one black Person in a day let alone a few days  … I live in bath  right on the edge of green belt which is far from an ethnic community and just walking home from work today I saw at least 5 people that were not white and that’s in half hour …. Cant comment on the walk to work it was still dark .

As a boy I never once saw a genuine negro black person,I did see a family of Chinese and one Indian man,I never once saw a real live black person till I went to London,there were none in Sunderland.

Bath had Georgian wealth built from slave plantations so in the early days slaves obviously found their way to the large houses?
