Hearing aids

After a lifetime of shooting and loud noises it turns out my ears are knackered.

16-17 year old loading on driven shoots and nobody thought to suggest I protect my hearing. 

Shooting fallen stock in stables and cow sheds. Attending raves and night clubs. 

Jobs fcked now. Deaf as a post

So along with a massive bald spot and my new pair of glasses I'm going for the holy trinity of being a old sad wanker. Never again able to attract fit young women (I was never that good at that anyway to be honest). 

Anybody else wear em? Are expensive private ones better than the NHS ones I'm waiting for.

Bizarrely I can hear geese half a minute before anyone else though! Strange

I wear them. NHS ones are just as good as private. They supply Bluetooth ones now with an app. Brilliant.

I've also  got a tiny box which connects my hearing aids direct to the telly.

Since you are obviously getting on a bit. I can give lots of advice on the ageing process. Industrial strength Viagra, wicker coffins, Tena for men, best pills for arthritis and the cost of installing a bidet.

NHS are just as good.    My wife swears by them.    Bluetooth attaches to an app on your phone

An old mate, 86 is always going back and getting his hearing aids adjusted or replaced. You can hear his TV half way up the street, lol. The batteries don't last long. Between that and his bad eyesight he's having a hard time but I think it's more that he's just really old and everything is failing more than the quality of his hearing aids and glasses. I think it's more brain related.

Yeah I have them, bought them from Specsavers. Rechargeable so no replacing batteries, not cheap mind. They are good with a bluetooth app so you can adjust to suit but I don't like wearing them if I'm honest. Watching TV is much better with them on and hearing small bird song. When they tested my hearing low sounds  was still good but high pitch stuff like small birds was gone. If I'm ferreting or just out mooching I don't usually wear them.

I've had this ringing in my ears since my mate fired a 12 bore right next to my ears out shooting Foxes about 50 years ago. It was pubs with that babble you get from all the people talking or an extract fan going in the back ground was the worst. Really could not mate out what people were saying. I was moaned at for years in the end gave in to keep the peace.

When I had my yearly M.O.T. this year, they included a hearing test.

Like you, they said my high pitch hearing had deteriorated slightly, they said it’s common as you get older and I may have a problem hearing high pitched women’s voices .

I said I considered that a bonus, not a problem……..

The good thing about hearing aids is they have an 'off' button .

I'm convinced women have a biological need to talk. We are just going out now for coffee in a garden centre. We are meeting up with another couple.

Me and the bloke will say next to nowt in the car, maybe grunt and talk about the football a bit. When we get to the garden centre we will swap the free papers they provide and drink several pots of tea.  We might adjust the arse cheeks to fart a bit, but say very little.

The women folk will compete for constant, incessant air time, they never, ever stop.

That's when the off button comes in very handy.
